Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured\, refusing to accept release\, that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and scourging\, and even chains and imprisonment. Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)\, and of the Cyrenians\, and of the Alexandrians\, and of those from Cilicia and Asia\, arose and disputed with Stephen. But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke. Then they secretly instigated men\, who said\, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.” And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes\, and they came upon him and seized him and brought him before the council\, and set up false witnesses who said\, “This man never ceases to speak words against this holy place and the law; for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place\, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.” And gazing at him\, all who sat in the council saw that his face was like the face of an angel.\nAnd the high priest said\, “Is this so?” And Stephen said: “Brethren and fathers\, hear me. Did not my hand make all these things?’\n“You stiff-necked people\, uncircumcised in heart and ears\, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did\, so do you. Again he sent to them another servant\, and they wounded him in the head\, and treated him shamefully. He had still one other\, a beloved son; finally he sent him to them\, saying\, ‘They will respect my son.’ But those tenants said to one another\, ‘This is the heir; come\, let us kill him\, and the inheritance will be ours.’ And they took him and killed him\, and cast him out of the vineyard. What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants\, and give the vineyard to others. They said to her\, “Woman\, why are you weeping?” She said to them\, “Because they have taken away my Lord\, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” Saying this\, she turned round and saw Jesus standing\, but she did not know that it was Jesus. What I mean is that each one of you says\, “I belong to Paul\,” or “I belong to Apollos\,” or “I belong to Cephas\,” or “I belong to Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispos and Gaius; lest any one should say that you were baptized in my name. Διό αναζωσάμενοι τάς οσφύας της διανοίας υμών\, νήφοντες\, τελείως ελπίσατε επί την φερομένην υμίν χάριν εν αποκαλύψει ᾿Ιησού Χριστού\, ως τέκνα υπακοής μή συσχηματιζόμενοι ταις πρότερον εν τη αγνοία υμών επιθυμίαις\, αλλά κατά τον καλέσαντα υμάς  άγιον και αυτοί άγιοι εν πάση αναστροφή γενήθητε\, διότι γέγραπται· άγιοι γίνεσθε\, ότι εγώ άγιός ειμι. Και ει πατέρα επικαλείσθε τον απροσωπολήπτως κρίνοντα κατά το εκάστου έργον\, εν φόβω τον της παροικίας υμών χρόνον αναστράφητε\, ειδότες ότι ου φθαρτοίς\, αργυρίω ή χρυσίω\, ελυτρώθητε εκ της ματαίας υμών αναστροφής πατροπαραδότου\, αλλά τιμίω αίματι ως αμνού αμώμου και ασπίλου Χριστού\, προεγνωσμένου μέν πρό καταβολής κόσμου\, φανερωθέντος δε επ᾿ εσχάτων των χρόνων δι᾿ υμάς τους δι᾿ αυτού πιστεύοντας εις Θεόν τον εγείραντα αυτόν εκ νεκρών και δόξαν αυτώ δόντα\, ώστε την πίστιν υμών και ελπίδα είναι εις Θεόν. Τάς ψυχάς υμών ηγνικότες εν τη υπακοή της αληθείας διά Πνεύματος εις φιλαδελφίαν ανυπόκριτον\, εκ καθαράς καρδίας αλλήλους αγαπήσατε εκτενώς\, αναγεγεννημένοι ουκ εκ σποράς φθαρτής\, αλλά αφθάρτου\, διά λόγου ζώντος Θεού και μένοντος εις τον αιώνα· διότι πάσα σάρξ ως χόρτος\, και πάσα δόξα ανθρώπου ως άνθος χόρτου· εξηράνθη ο χόρτος\, και το άνθος αυτού εξέπεσε· το δε ρήμα Κυρίου μένει εις τον αιώνα. τούτο δέ εστι το ρήμα το ευαγγελισθέν εις υμάς.  ᾿Αποθέμενοι ούν πάσαν κακίαν και πάντα δόλον και υποκρίσεις και φθόνους και πάσας καταλαλιάς\, ως αρτιγέννητα βρέφη το λογικόν άδολον γάλα επιποθήσατε\, ίνα εν αυτώ αυξηθήτε εις σωτηρίαν\, είπερ εγεύσασθε ότι χρηστός ο Κύριος. And a cloud overshadowed them\, and a voice came out of the cloud\, “This is my beloved son; listen to him.” And suddenly\, looking around they no longer saw any one with them but Jesus only. And as they were coming down the mountain he charged them to tell no one what they had seen\, until the Son of man should have risen from the dead.

Τοσαύτα\, ει τύχοι\, γένη φωνών εστίν εν κόσμω και ουδέν αυτών άφωνον. Εάν ούν μή ειδώ την δύναμιν της φωνής\, έσομαι τω λαλούντι βάρβαρος\, και ο λαλών εν εμοί βάρβαρος. Ούτως και υμείς\, επεί ζηλωταί εστε πνευμάτων\, πρός την οικοδομήν της εκκλησίας ζητείτε ίνα περισσεύητε. Διόπερ ο λαλών γλώσση προσευχέσθω ίνα διερμηνεύη. Εάν γαρ προσεύχωμαι γλώσση\, το πνεύμά μου προσεύχεται\, ο δε νούς μου άκαρπός εστιν. Τί ούν εστίν; Προσεύξομαι τω πνεύματι\, προσεύξομαι δε και τω νοΐ· ψαλώ τω πνεύματι\, ψαλώ δε και τω νοΐ. Επεί εάν ευλογήσης τω πνεύματι\, ο αναπληρών τον τόπον του ιδιώτου πώς ερεί το Αμήν επί τη σή ευχαριστία\, επειδή τί λέγεις ουκ οίδεν; Σύ μέν γαρ καλώς ευχαριστείς\, αλλʼ ο έτερος ουκ οικοδομείται. Let all things be done for edification. If any speak in a tongue\, let there be only two or at most three\, and each in turn; and let one interpret. But if there is no one to interpret\, let each one of them keep silence in church and speak to himself and to God. Let two or three prophets speak\, and let the others weigh what is said. If a revelation is made to another by sitting by\, let the first be silent. For you can all prophesy one by one\, so that all may learn and all be encouraged; and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. But God is not a God of confusion but of peace. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again\, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me\, even so I send you.” And when He had said this\, He breathed on them and said to them\, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any\, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any\, they are retained.” Now Thomas\, one of the twelve\, called the Twin\, was not with them when Jesus came. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.” Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples\, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ\, the Son of God\, and that believing\, you may have life in His name.\nEpistle Reading: I Corinthians 3:9-17\nBrethren\, we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field\, God’s building. For God’s temple is holy\, and that temple you are.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 14:22-34\nAt that time\, Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side\, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds\, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. When evening came\, he was there alone\, but the boat by this time was many furlongs distant from the land\, beaten by the waves; for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them\, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea\, they were terrified\, saying\, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately he spoke to them\, saying “Take heart\, it is I; have no fear.”\n And Peter answered him\, “Lord\, if it is you\, bid me come to you on the water.” He said\, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus; but when he saw the wind\, he was afraid\, and beginning to sink he cried out\, “Lord\, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him\, saying to him\, “O man of little faith\, why did you doubt?” And when they entered the boat\, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him\, saying\, “Truly you are the Son of God.” And when they had crossed over\, they came to land at Gennesaret.

Κατά την χάριν του θεού την δοθείσάν μοι\, ως σοφός αρχιτέκτων θεμέλιον τέθεικα\, άλλος δε εποικοδομεί. Έκαστος δε βλεπέτω πώς εποικοδομεί. Θεμέλιον γαρ άλλον ουδείς δύναται θείναι παρά τον κείμενον\, ός εστιν Ιησούς Χριστός. Ει δε τις εποικοδομεί επί τον θεμέλιον τούτον χρυσόν\, άργυρον\, λίθους τιμίους\, ξύλα\, χόρτον\, καλάμην\, εκάστου το έργον φανερόν γενήσεται· η γαρ ημέρα δηλώσει\, ότι εν πυρί αποκαλύπτεται· και εκάστου το έργον οποίόν εστιν το πύρ δοκιμάσει. Ει τινος το έργον μένει ό εποικοδόμησεν\, μισθόν λήψεται. Ει τινος το έργον κατακαήσεται\, ζημιωθήσεται· αυτός δε σωθήσεται\, ούτως δε ως διά πυρός. Ουκ οίδατε ότι ναός θεού εστε\, και το πνεύμα του θεού οικεί εν υμίν; Ει τις τον ναόν του θεού φθείρει\, φθερεί τούτον ο θεός· ο γαρ ναός του θεού άγιός εστιν\, οίτινές εστε υμείς.\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου: Κατά Ματθαίον 14:22-34\nΤω καιρώ εκείνω\, ηνάγκασεν ο Ιησούς τους μαθητάς εμβήναι εις το πλοίον και προάγειν αυτόν εις το πέραν\, έως ού απολύση τους όχλους. Και απολύσας τους όχλους ανέβη εις το όρος κατ᾽ ιδίαν προσεύξασθαι. οψίας δε γενομένης μόνος ήν εκεί. Το δε πλοίον ήδη σταδίους πολλούς από της γής απείχεν\, βασανιζόμενον υπό των κυμάτων\, ήν γαρ εναντίος ο άνεμος. Τετάρτη δε φυλακή της νυκτός ήλθεν πρός αυτούς περιπατών επί την θάλασσαν. Οι δε μαθηταί ιδόντες αυτόν επί της θαλάσσης περιπατούντα εταράχθησαν λέγοντες ότι Φάντασμά εστιν\, και από του φόβου έκραξαν. Ευθύς δε ελάλησεν  αυτοίς λέγων\, Θαρσείτε\, εγώ ειμι· μή φοβείσθε. Αποκριθείς δε αυτώ ο Πέτρος είπεν\, Κύριε\, ει σύ εί\, κέλευσόν με ελθείν πρός σέ επί τα ύδατα· ο δε είπεν\, ᾽Ελθέ. και καταβάς από του πλοίου ο Πέτρος περιεπάτησεν επί τα ύδατα και ήλθεν πρός τον ᾽Ιησούν. Βλέπων δε τον άνεμον εφοβήθη\, και αρξάμενος καταποντίζεσθαι έκραξεν λέγων\, Κύριε\, σώσόν με. Ευθέως δε ο ᾽Ιησούς εκτείνας την χείρα επελάβετο αυτού και λέγει αυτώ\, ᾽Ολιγόπιστε\, εις τί εδίστασας; και αναβάντων αυτών εις το πλοίον εκόπασεν ο άνεμος. Οι δε εν τω πλοίω προσεκύνησαν αυτώ λέγοντες\, ᾽Αληθώς Θεού υιός εί. Και διαπεράσαντες ήλθον επί την γήν εις Γεννησαρέτ.
