SUMMARY:Righteous Fathers slain at the Monastery of St. Savas
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 03/20/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Righteous Fathers slain at the Monastery of St. Savas; Myron the New Martyr of Crete; Cuthbert the Wonderworker\, Bishop of Lindisfarne; Photini the Samaritan Woman\nStrict Fast\nOld Testament Reading: Isaiah 11:10-12:2\n Thus says the LORD: In that day the root of Jesse shall stand as an ensign to the peoples; him shall the nations seek\, and his dwellings shall be glorious.\n In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant which is left of his people\, from Assyria\, from Egypt\, from Pathros\, from Ethiopia\, from Elam\, from Shinar\, from Hamath\, and from the coastlands of the sea. He will raise an ensign for the nations\, and will assemble the outcasts of Israel\, and gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. The jealousy of Ephraim shall depart\, and those who harass Judah shall be cut off; Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah\, and Judah shall not harass Ephraim. But they shall swoop down upon the shoulder of the Philistines in the west\, and together they shall plunder the people of the east. They shall put forth their hand against Edom and Moab\, and the Ammonites shall obey them. And the LORD will utterly destroy the tongue of the sea of Egypt; and will wave his hand over the River with his scorching wind\, and smite it into seven channels that men may cross dryshod. And there will be a highway from Assyria for the remnant which is left of his people\, as there was for Israel when they came up from the land of Egypt.\n You will say in that day: “I will give thanks to thee\, O LORD\, for though thou wast angry with me\, thy anger turned away\, and thou didst comfort me. “Behold\, God is my salvation; I will trust\, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song\, and he has become my salvation.”\nOld Testament Reading: Genesis 7:11-8:3\n In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life\, in the second month\, on the seventeenth day of the month\, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth\, and the windows of the heavens were opened. And rain fell upon the earth forty days and forty nights. On the very same day Noah and his sons\, Shem and Ham and Japheth\, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them entered the ark\, they and every beast according to its kind\, and all the cattle according to their kinds\, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth according to its kind\, and every bird according to its kind\, every bird of every sort. They went into the ark with Noah\, two and two of all flesh in which there was the breath of life. And they that entered\, male and female of all flesh\, went in as God had commanded him; and the LORD shut him in.\n The flood continued forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased\, and bore up the ark\, and it rose high above the earth. The waters prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark floated on the face of the waters. And the waters prevailed so mightily upon the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered; the waters prevailed above the mountains\, covering them fifteen cubits deep. And all flesh died that moved upon the earth\, birds\, cattle\, beasts\, all swarming creatures that swarm upon the earth\, and every man; everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died. He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the ground\, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the air; they were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left\, and those that were with him in the ark. And the waters prevailed upon the earth a hundred and fifty days. But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the cattle that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth\, and the waters subsided; the fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed\, the rain from the heavens was restrained\, and the waters receded from the earth continually. At the end of a hundred and fifty days the waters had abated.\nOld Testament Reading: Proverbs 10:1-22\nA wise son makes a glad father\, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother. Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit\, but righteousness delivers from death. The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry\, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. A slack hand causes poverty\, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. A son who gathers in summer is prudent\, but a son who sleeps in harvest brings shame. Blessings are on the head of the righteous\, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. The memory of the righteous is a blessing\, but the name of the wicked will rot. The wise of heart will heed commandments\, but a prating fool will come to ruin. He who walks in integrity walks securely\, but he who perverts his ways will be found out. He who winks the eye causes trouble\, but he who boldly reproves makes peace. The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life\, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. Hatred stirs up strife\, but love covers all offenses. On the lips of him who has understanding wisdom is found\, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks sense. Wise men lay up knowledge\, but the babbling of a fool brings ruin near. A rich man’s wealth is his strong city; the poverty of the poor is their ruin. The wage of the righteous leads to life\, the gain of the wicked to sin. He who heeds instruction is on the path to life\, but he who rejects reproof goes astray. He who conceals hatred has lying lips\, and he who utters slander is a fool. When words are many\, transgression is not lacking\, but he who restrains his lips is prudent. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the mind of the wicked is of little worth. The lips of the righteous feed many\, but fools die for lack of sense. The blessing of the LORD makes rich\, and he adds no sorrow with it.

SUMMARY:The Holy Martyrs Chrysanthus and Daria
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 03/19/2025\nSaints and Feasts: The Holy Martyrs Chrysanthus and Daria; Demetrios the New Martyr\nStrict Fast\nOld Testament Reading: Isaiah 10:12-20\n When the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem he will punish the arrogant boasting of the king of Assyria and his haughty pride. For he says: “By the strength of my hand I have done it\, and by my wisdom\, for I have understanding; I have removed the boundaries of peoples\, and have plundered their treasures; like a bull I have brought down those who sat on thrones. My hand has found like a nest the wealth of the peoples; and as men gather eggs that have been forsaken so I have gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved a wing\, or opened the mouth\, or chirped.” Shall the axe vaunt itself over him who hews with it\, or the saw magnify itself against him who wields it? As if a rod should wield him who lifts it\, or as if a staff should lift him who is not wood! Therefore the Lord\, the LORD of hosts\, will send wasting sickness among his stout warriors\, and under his glory a burning will be kindled\, like the burning of fire. The light of Israel will become a fire\, and his Holy One a flame; and it will burn and devour his thorns and briers in one day. The glory of his forest and of his fruitful land the LORD will destroy\, both soul and body\, and it will be as when a sick man wastes away. The remnant of the trees of his forest will be so few that a child can write them down. In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean upon him that smote them\, but will lean upon the LORD\, the Holy One of Israel\, in truth.\nOld Testament Reading: Genesis 7:6-9\n Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters came upon the earth. And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him went into the ark\, to escape the waters of the flood. Of clean animals\, and of animals that are not clean\, and of birds\, and of everything that creeps on the ground\, two and two\, male and female\, went into the ark with Noah\, as God had commanded Noah.\nOld Testament Reading: Proverbs 9:12-18\nIf you are wise\, you are wise for yourself; if you scoff\, you alone will bear it. A foolish woman is noisy; she is wanton and knows no shame. She sits at the door of her house\, she takes a seat on the high places of the town\, calling to those who pass by\, who are going straight on their way\, “Whoever is simple\, let him turn in here!” And to him who is without sense she says\, “Stolen water is sweet\, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” But he does not know that the dead are there\, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

SUMMARY:Cyril\, Patriarch of Jerusalem
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 03/18/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Cyril\, Patriarch of Jerusalem; Trophimos & Eukarpion\, Monk-martyrs of Nicomedea; Edward the Martyr\, King of England\nStrict Fast\nOld Testament Reading: Isaiah 9:9-10:4\nThus says the LORD: “And all the people will know\, Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria\, who say in pride and in arrogance of heart: ‘The bricks have fallen\, but we will build with dressed stones; the sycamores have been cut down\, but we will put cedars in their place.'” So the LORD raises adversaries against them\, and stirs up their enemies. The Syrians on the east and the Philistines on the west devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away and his hand is stretched out still. The people did not turn to him who smote them\, nor seek the LORD of hosts. So the LORD cut off from Israel head and tail\, palm branch and reed in one day – the elder and honored man is the head\, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail; for those who lead this people lead them astray\, and those who are led by them are swallowed up. Therefore the Lord does not rejoice over their young men\, and has no compassion on their fatherless and widows; for every one is godless and an evildoer\, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger is not turned away and his hand is stretched out still. For wickedness burns like a fire\, it consumes briers and thorns; it kindles the thickets of the forest\, and they roll upward in a column of smoke. Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts the land is burned\, and the people are like fuel for the fire; no man spares his brother. They snatch on the right\, but are still hungry\, and they devour on the left\, but are not satisfied; each devours his neighbor’s flesh\, Manasseh\, Ephraim\, and Ephraim\, Manasseh\, and together they are against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away and his hand is stretched out still.\n Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees\, and the writers who keep writing oppression\, to turn aside the needy from justice and to rob the poor of my people of their right\, that widows may be their spoil\, and that they may make the fatherless their prey! What will you do on the day of punishment\, in the storm which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help\, and where will you leave your wealth? Nothing remains but to crouch among the prisoners or fall among the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away and his hand is stretched out still.\nOld Testament Reading: Genesis 7:1-5\n Then the LORD said to Noah\, “Go into the ark\, you and all your household\, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation. Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals\, the male and his mate; and a pair of the animals that are not clean\, the male and his mate; and seven pairs of the birds of the air also\, male and female\, to keep their kind alive upon the face of all the earth. For in seven days I will send rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living thing that I have made I will blot out from the face of the ground.” And Noah did all that the LORD had commanded him.\nOld Testament Reading: Proverbs 8:32-9:11\nAnd now\, my sons\, listen to me: happy are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise\, and do not neglect it. Happy is the man who listens to me\, watching daily at my gates\, waiting beside my doors. For he who finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD; but he who misses me injures himself; all who hate me love death.” Wisdom has built her house\, she has set up her seven pillars. She has slaughtered her beasts\, she has mixed her wine\, she has also set her table. She has sent out her maids to call from the highest places in the town\, “Whoever is simple\, let him turn in here!” To him who is without sense she says\, “Come\, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed. Leave simpleness\, and live\, and walk in the way of insight.” He who corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse\, and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury. Do not reprove a scoffer\, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man\, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man\, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man and he will increase in learning. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom\, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. For by me your days will be multiplied\, and years will be added to your life.

SUMMARY:Alexis the Man of God
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 03/17/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Alexis the Man of God; Paul the Righteous Martyr; Patrick the Enlightener of Ireland; Marinos the Martyr; Theocteristos the Confessor\nStrict Fast\nOld Testament Reading: Isaiah 8:13-9:7\nBut the LORD of hosts\, him you shall regard as holy; let him be your fear\, and let him be your dread. And he will become a sanctuary\, and a stone of offense\, and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel\, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And many shall stumble thereon; they shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken.”\n Bind up the testimony\, seal the teaching among my disciples. I will wait for the LORD\, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob\, and I will hope in him. Behold\, I and the children whom the LORD has given me are signs and portents in Israel from the LORD of hosts\, who dwells on Mount Zion. And when they say to you\, “Consult the mediums and the wizards who chirp and mutter\,” should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living? To the teaching and to the testimony! Surely for this word which they speak there is no dawn. They will pass through the land\, greatly distressed and hungry; and when they are hungry\, they will be enraged and will curse their king and their God\, and turn their faces upward; and they will look to the earth\, but behold\, distress and darkness\, the gloom of anguish; and they will be thrust into thick darkness.\n But there will be no gloom for her that was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali\, but in the latter time he will make glorious the way of the sea\, the land beyond the Jordan\, Galilee of the nations. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness\, on them has light shined. Thou hast multiplied the nation\, thou hast increased its joy; they rejoice before thee as with joy at the harvest\, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil. For the yoke of his burden\, and the staff for his shoulder\, the rod of his oppressor\, thou hast broken as on the day of Midian. For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born\, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder\, and his name will be called “Wonderful Counselor\, Mighty God\, Everlasting Father\, Prince of Peace.” Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end\, upon the throne of David\, and over his kingdom\, to establish it\, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and for evermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.\nOld Testament Reading: Genesis 6:9-22\n These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man\, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God. And Noah had three sons\, Shem\, Ham\, and Japheth. Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight\, and the earth was filled with violence. And God saw the earth\, and behold\, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth. And God said to Noah\, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh; for the earth is filled with violence through them; behold\, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the ark\, and cover it inside and out with pitch. This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark three hundred cubits\, its breadth fifty cubits\, and its height thirty cubits. Make a roof for the ark\, and finish it to a cubit above; and set the door of the ark in its side; make it with lower\, second\, and third decks. For behold\, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth\, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall die. But I will establish my covenant with you; and you shall come into the ark\, you\, your sons\, your wife\, and your sons’ wives with you. And of every living thing of all flesh\, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark\, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. Of the birds according to their kinds\, and of the animals according to their kinds\, of every creeping thing of the ground according to its kind\, two of every sort shall come in to you\, to keep them alive. Also take with you every sort of food that is eaten\, and store it up; and it shall serve as food for you and for them.” Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.\nOld Testament Reading: Proverbs 8:1-21\nDoes not wisdom call\, does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights beside the way\, in the paths she takes her stand; beside the gates in front of the town\, at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud: “To you\, O men\, I call\, and my cry is to the sons of men.O simple ones\, learn prudence; O foolish men\, pay attention. Hear\, for I will speak noble things\, and from my lips will come what is right; for my mouth will utter truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are righteous; there is nothing twisted or crooked in them. They are all straight to him who understands and right to those who find knowledge. Take my instruction instead of silver\, and knowledge rather than choice gold; for wisdom is better than jewels\, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her. I\, wisdom\, dwell in prudence\, and I find knowledge and discretion. The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate. I have counsel and sound wisdom\, I have insight\, I have strength. By me kings reign\, and rulers decree what is just; by me princes rule\, and nobles govern the earth. I love those who love me\, and those who seek me diligently find me. Riches and honor are with me\, enduring wealth and prosperity. My fruit is better than gold\, even fine gold\, and my yield than choice silver. I walk in the way of righteousness\, in the paths of justice\, endowing with wealth those who love me\, and filling their treasuries.

SUMMARY:Sunday of St. Gregory Palamas
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 03/16/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Sunday of St. Gregory Palamas; Sabine the Martyr of Egypt; Christodulus the Wonderworker of Patmos; Aristovoulos\, Apostle of the 70; Julian the Martyr; Romanos the Hieromartyr of Parium\nFast Day (Wine and Oil Allowed)\nMatins Gospel Reading: Luke 24:12-35\nAt that time\, two of them were going to a village named Emmaus\, about seven miles from Jerusalem\, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing together\, Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from recognizing Him. And He said to them\, “What is this conversation which you are holding with each other as you walk?” and they stood still\, looking sad. Then one of them\, named Cleopas\, answered Him\, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” And He said to them\, “What things?” And they said to him\, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth\, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people\, and how our chief priests and rulers delivered Him up to be condemned to death\, and crucified Him. But we had hoped that He was the one to redeem Israel. Yes\, and besides all this\, it is now the third day since this happened. Moreover\, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find His body; and they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels\, who said that He was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb\, and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see.” And He said to them\, “O foolish men\, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was not it necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into this glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the prophets\, He interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself. So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He appeared to be going further\, but they constrained Him\, saying\, “Stay with us\, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So He went in to stay with them. When He was at table with them\, He took the bread and blessed\, and broke it\, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished out of their sight. They said to each other\, “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road\, while He opened to us the scriptures?” And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven gathered together and those who were with them\, who said\, “The Lord has risen indeed\, and has appeared to Simon!” Then they told what had happened on the road and how He was known to them in the breaking of the bread.\nEpistle Reading: Hebrews 1:10-14;2:1-3\nIN THE BEGINNING\, Thou\, Lord\, didst found the earth in the beginning\, and the heavens are the work of thy hands; they will perish\, but thou remainest; they will all grow old like a garment\, like a mantle thou wilt roll them up\, and they will be changed. But thou art the same\, and thy years will never end.” But to what angel has he ever said\, “Sit at my right hand\, till I make thy enemies a stool for thy feet?” Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to serve\, for the sake of those who are to obtain salvation?\nTherefore we must pay closer attention to what we have heard\, lest we drift away from it. For if the message declared by angels was valid and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution\, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord\, and it was attested to us by those who heard him.\nGospel Reading: Mark 2:1-12\nAt that time\, Jesus entered Capernaum and it was reported that he was at home. And many were gathered together\, so that there was no longer room for them\, not even about the door; and he was preaching the word to them. And they came\, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd\, they removed the roof above him; and when they had made an opening\, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith\, he said to the paralytic\, “My son\, your sins are forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there\, questioning in their hearts\, “Why does this man speak thus? It is a blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” And immediately Jesus\, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves\, said to them\, “Why do you question thus in your hearts? Which is easier\, to say to the paralytic\, ‘Your sins are forgiven\,’ or to say\, ‘Rise\, take up your pallet and walk? But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins”-he said to the paralytic-“I say to you\, rise\, take up your pallet and go home.” And he rose\, and immediately took up the pallet and went out before them all; so that they were all amazed and glorified God\, saying\, “We never saw anything like this!”

SUMMARY:Second Saturday of Lent
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 03/15/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Second Saturday of Lent; Agapius the Martyr & His Companions; Manuel the New Martyr of Crete; Holy Apostle Aristobulos of the Seventy\, Bishop of Britain\nFast Day (Wine and Oil Allowed)\nEpistle Reading: Hebrews 3:12-16\nBRETHREN\, take care lest there be in any of you an evil\, unbelieving heart\, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day\, as long as it is called “today\,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we share in Christ\, if only we hold our first confidence firm to the end\, while it is said\, “Today\, when you hear his voice\, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” Who were they that heard and yet were rebellious? Was it not all those who left Egypt under the leadership of Moses?\nGospel Reading: Mark 1:35-44\nAt that time\, Jesus went out to a lonely place\, and there he prayed. And Simon and those who were with him pursued him\, and they found him and said to him\, “Everyone is searching for you.” And he said to them\, “Let us go on to the next towns\, that I may preach there also; for that is why I came out.” And he went throughout all Galilee\, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons. And a leper came to him beseeching him\, and kneeling said to him\, “If you will\, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity\, he stretched out his hand and touched him\, and said to him\, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him\, and he was made clean. And he sternly charged him\, and sent him away at once\, and said to him\, “See that you say nothing to any one; but go\, show yourself to a priest\, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded\, for a proof to them.”

SUMMARY:Benedict the Righteous of Nursia
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 03/14/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Benedict the Righteous of Nursia; Euschemon the Confessor\, Bishop of Lampasakos\nStrict Fast\nOld Testament Reading: Isaiah 7:1-14\nIn the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham\, son of Uzziah\, king of Judah\, Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah the king of Israel came up to Jerusalem to wage war against it\, but they could not conquer it. When the house of David was told\, “Syria is in league with Ephraim\,” his heart and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.\nAnd the LORD said to Isaiah\, “Go forth to meet Ahaz\, you and Shearjashub your son\, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the highway to the Fuller’s Field\, and say to him\, ‘Take heed\, be quiet\, do not fear\, and do not let your heart be faint because of these two smoldering stumps of firebrands\, at the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria and the son of Remaliah. Because Syria\, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah\, has devised evil against you\, saying\, “Let us go up against Judah and terrify it\, and let us conquer it for ourselves\, and set up the son of Tabeel as king in the midst of it\,” thus says the Lord GOD: It shall not stand\, and it shall not come to pass. For the head of Syria is Damascus\, and the head of Damascus is Rezin. (Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be broken to pieces so that it will no longer be a people.) And the head of Ephraim is Samaria\, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you will not believe\, surely you shall not be established.'”\nAgain the LORD spoke to Ahaz\, “Ask a sign of the LORD your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” But Ahaz said\, “I will not ask\, and I will not put the LORD to the test.” And he said\, “Hear then\, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men\, that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold\, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son\, and shall call his name Immanuel.\nOld Testament Reading: Genesis 5:32-6:8\n After Noah was five hundred years old\, Noah became the father of Shem\, Ham\, and Japheth. When men began to multiply on the face of the ground\, and daughters were born to them\, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were fair; and they took to wife such of them as they chose. Then the LORD said\, “My spirit shall not abide in man for ever\, for he is flesh\, but his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days\, and also afterward\, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men\, and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men that were of old\, the men of renown.\n The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth\, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that he had made man on the earth\, and it grieved him to his heart. So the LORD said\, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the ground\, man and beast and creeping things and birds of the air\, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.\nOld Testament Reading: Proverbs 6:20-7:1\nMy son\, keep your father’s commandment\, and forsake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them upon your heart always; tie them about your neck. When you walk\, they will lead you; when you lie down\, they will watch over you; and when you awake\, they will talk with you. For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light\, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life\, to preserve you from the evil woman\, from the smooth tongue of the adventuress. Do not desire her beauty in your heart\, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes; for a harlot may be hired for a loaf of bread\, but an adulteress stalks a man’s very life. Can a man carry fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned? Or can one walk upon hot coals and his feet not be scorched? So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; none who touches her will go unpunished. Do not men despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his appetite when he is hungry? And if he is caught\, he will pay sevenfold; he will give all the goods of his house. He who commits adultery has no sense; he who does it destroys himself. Wounds and dishonor will he get\, and his disgrace will not be wiped away. For jealousy makes a man furious\, and he will not spare when he takes revenge. He will accept no compensation\, nor be appeased though you multiply gifts. My son\, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you.

SUMMARY:Removal of the relics of Nicephorus\, Patriarch of Constantinople
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 03/13/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Removal of the relics of Nicephorus\, Patriarch of Constantinople; Pouplios the Martyr\, Bishop of Athens; Christina the Martyr of Persia; Gerald\, Bishop of Mayo\nStrict Fast\nOld Testament Reading: Isaiah 6:1-12\nIn the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne\, high and lifted up; and his train filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim; each had six wings: with two he covered his face\, and with two he covered his feet\, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: “Holy\, holy\, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.” And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called\, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips\, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King\, the LORD of hosts!” Then flew one of the seraphim to me\, having in his hand a burning coal which he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth\, and said: “Behold\, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away\, and your sin forgiven.” And I heard the voice of the Lord saying\, “Whom shall I send\, and who will go for us?” Then I said\, “Here am I! Send me.” And he said\, “Go\, and say to this people: ‘Hear and hear\, but do not understand; see and see\, but do not perceive.’ Make the heart of this people fat\, and their ears heavy\, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes\, and hear with their ears\, and understand with their hearts\, and turn and be healed.” Then I said\, “How long\, O Lord?” And he said: “Until cities lie waste without inhabitant\, and houses without men\, and the land is utterly desolate\, and the LORD removes men far away\, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.”\nOld Testament Reading: Genesis 5:1-24\n This is the book of the generations of Adam. When God created man\, he made him in the likeness of God. Male and female he created them\, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created. When Adam had lived a hundred and thirty years\, he became the father of a son in his own likeness\, after his image\, and named him Seth. The days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years; and he had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died.\n When Seth had lived a hundred and five years\, he became the father of Enosh. Seth lived after the birth of Enosh eight hundred and seven years\, and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years; and he died.\n When Enosh had lived ninety years\, he became the father of Kenan. Enosh lived after the birth of Kenan eight hundred and fifteen years\, and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years; and he died.\n When Kenan had lived seventy years\, he became the father of Mahalalel. Kenan lived after the birth of Mahalalel eight hundred and forty years\, and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Kenan were nine hundred and ten years; and he died.\n When Mahalalel had lived sixty-five years\, he became the father of Jared. Mahalalel lived after the birth of Jared eight hundred and thirty years\, and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred and ninety-five years; and he died.\n When Jared had lived a hundred and sixty-two years he became the father of Enoch. Jared lived after the birth of Enoch eight hundred years\, and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty-two years; and he died. When Enoch had lived sixty-five years\, he became the father of Methuselah. Enoch walked with God after the birth of Methuselah three hundred years\, and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. Enoch walked with God; and he was not\, for God took him.\nOld Testament Reading: Proverbs 6:3-20\nThen do this\, my son\, and save yourself\, for you have come into your neighbor’s power: go\, hasten\, and importune your neighbor. Give your eyes no sleep and your eyelids no slumber; save yourself like a gazelle from the hunter\, like a bird from the hand of the fowler.\n Go to the ant\, O sluggard; consider her ways\, and be wise. Without having any chief\, officer or ruler\, she prepares her food in summer\, and gathers her sustenance in harvest. How long will you lie there\, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? A little sleep\, a little slumber\, a little folding of the hands to rest\, and poverty will come upon you like a vagabond\, and want like an armed man. A worthless person\, a wicked man\, goes about with crooked speech\, winks with his eyes\, scrapes with his feet\, points with his finger\, with perverted heart devises evil\, continually sowing discord; therefore calamity will come upon him suddenly; in a moment he will be broken beyond healing.\n There are six things which the LORD hates\, seven which are an abomination to him: haughty eyes\, a lying tongue\, and hands that shed innocent blood\, a heart that devises wicked plans\, feet that make haste to run to evil\, a false witness who breathes out lies\, and a man who sows discord among brothers. My son\, keep your father’s commandment\, and forsake not your mother’s teaching.
