SUMMARY:Great and Holy Pascha
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 04/20/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Great and Holy Pascha; Theodore the Trichinas; Zacchaeus the Apostle of Caesaria; Gregory & Anastasios\, Patriarchs of Antioch; Athanasios\, Founder of the Monastery of Meteora\nFast Free\nMatins Gospel Reading: Mark 16:1-8\nWhen the Sabbath was past\, Mary Magdalene\, and Mary the mother of James and Salome\, bought spices\, so that they might go and anoint Jesus. And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another\, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?” And looking up\, they saw that the stone was rolled back – it was very large. And entering the tomb\, they saw a young man sitting on the right side\, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them\, “Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth\, who was crucified. He has risen\, He is not here; see the place where they laid Him. But go\, tell His disciples and Peter that He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see Him\, as He told you.” And they went out and fled from the tomb\, for trembling and astonishment had come upon them; and they said nothing to anyone\, for they were afraid.\nEpistle Reading: Acts 1:1-8\nIn the first book\, O Theophilos\, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach\, until the day when he was taken up\, after he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. To them he presented himself alive after his passion by many proofs\, appearing to them during forty days\, and speaking of the kingdom of God. And while staying with them he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem\, but to wait for the promise of the Father\, which\, he said\, “you heard from me\, for John baptized with water\, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”\nSo when they had come together\, they asked him\, “Lord\, will you at this time restore the kingdom of lsrael?” He said to them\, “it is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth.”\nGospel Reading: John 1:1-17\nIn the beginning was the Word\, and the Word was with God\, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him\, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life\, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness\, and the darkness has not overcome it.\nThere was a man sent from God\, whose name was John. He came for testimony\, to bear witness to the light\, that all might believe through him. He was not the light\, but came to bear witness to the light.\nThe true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world. He was in the world\, and the world was made through him\, yet the world knew him not. He came to his own home\, and his own people received him not. But to all who received him\, who believed in his name\, he gave power to become children of God; who were born\, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man\, but of God.\nAnd the Word became flesh and dwelt among us\, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory\, glory as of the only Son from the Father. (John bore witness to him\, and cried\, “This was he of whom I said\, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me\, for he was before me.'”) And from his fullness have we all received\, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

SUMMARY:Holy Saturday
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 04/19/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Holy Saturday; The Holy Hieromartyr Paphnutius; Tryphon\, Patriarch of Constantinople; George the Confessor; Aelphege the Hieromartyr of Canterbury\nStrict Fast\nMatins Gospel Reading: Matthew 27:62-66\nOn the next day\, that is\, after the day of Preparation\, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate and said\, “Sir\, we remember how that impostor said\, while he was still alive\, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ Therefore order the sepulcher to be made secure until the third day\, lest his disciples go and steal him away\, and tell the people\, ‘He has risen from the dead\,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.” Pilate said to them\, “You have a guard of soldiers; go\, make it as secure as you can.” So they went and made the sepulcher secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.\nEpistle Reading: Romans 6:3-11\nBrethren\, all who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death. We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death\, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father\, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with Him in a death like His\, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His. We know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the sinful body might be destroyed\, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. For he who has died is freed from sin. But if we have died with Christ\, we believe that we shall also live with Him. For we know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over Him. The death He died He died to sin\, once for all\, but the life He lives He lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 28:1-20\nAfter the sabbath\, toward the dawn of the first day of the week\, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the sepulcher. And behold\, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone\, and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning\, and his raiment white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women\, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has risen\, as he said. Come\, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead\, and behold\, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. Lo\, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy\, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold\, Jesus met them and said\, “Hail!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them\, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brethren to go to Galilee\, and there they will see me.”\nWhile they were going\, behold\, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel\, they gave a sum of money to the soldiers and said\, “Tell people\, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ And if this comes to the governor’s ears\, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” So they took the money and did as they were directed; and this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.\nNow the eleven disciples went to Galilee\, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them\, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations\, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit\, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo\, I am with you always\, to the close of the age. Amen.”

SUMMARY:Holy Friday
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 04/18/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Holy Friday; Holy Father John the Righteous\, disciple of St. Gregory of Decapolis; Euthemios the Enlightener of Karelia; Cosmas\, Bishop of Calcydon; John the New Martyr of Epiros; Athanasia the Wonderworker of Aegina\nStrict Fast\nEpistle Reading: I Corinthians 5:6-8\n BRETHREN\, a little leaven leavens the whole lump. Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump\, as you really are unleavened. For Christ\, our paschal lamb\, has been sacrificed. Let us\, therefore\, celebrate the festival\, not with the old leaven\, the leaven of malice and evil\, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. (Galatians 3.13-14) Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law\, having become a curse for us – for it is written\, “Cursed be everyone who hangs on a tree” – that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles\, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 27:62-66\nOn the next day\, that is\, after the day of Preparation\, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate and said\, “Sir\, we remember how that impostor said\, while he was still alive\, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ Therefore order the sepulcher to be made secure until the third day\, lest his disciples go and steal him away\, and tell the people\, ‘He has risen from the dead\,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.” Pilate said to them\, “You have a guard of soldiers; go\, make it as secure as you can.” So they went and made the sepulcher secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.

SUMMARY:Holy Thursday
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 04/17/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Holy Thursday; Symeon the Holy Martyr\, Bishop of Persepolis\, and those with him; Makarios\, Bishop of Corinth; Agapetos of Rome; Hadrian the New-Martyr; Donnan\, Abbot of Eigg\, and the Monk-Martyrs with him\nFast Day (Wine and Oil Allowed)\nMatins Gospel Reading: Luke 22:1-39\nAt that time\, the feast of Unleavened Bread drew near\, which is called the Passover. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put Jesus to death. For they feared the people. Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot\, who was of the number of the twelve; he went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them. And they were glad\, and engaged to give him money. So he agreed\, and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of the multitude. Then came the day of Unleavened Bread\, on which the passover lamb had to be sacrificed. So he sent Peter and John\, saying\, “Go and prepare the passover for us\, that we may eat it.” They said to him\, “Where will you have us prepare it?” He said to them\, “Behold\, when you have entered the city\, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him into the house which he enters\, and tell the householder\, ‘The Teacher says to you\, Where is the guest room\, where I am to eat the passover with my disciples?’ And he will show you a large upper room furnished; there make ready.” And they went\, and found it as he had told them; and they prepared the passover. And when the hour came\, he sat at table\, and the apostles with him. And he said to them. “I have earnestly desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer; for I tell you I shall never eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” And he took a cup\, and when he had given thanks he said\, “Take this\, and divide it among yourselves; for I tell you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes. ” And he took bread\, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them\, saying\, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after supper\, saying\, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood. But behold the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table. For the Son of man goes as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!” And they began to question one another\, which of them it was that would do this. A dispute also arose among them\, which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. And he said to them\, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors. But not so with you; rather let the greatest among you become as the youngest\, and the leader as one who serves. For which is the greater\, one who sits at table\, or one who serves? Is it not the one who sits at table? But I am among you as one who serves. You are those who have continued with me in my trials; and I assign to you\, as my Father assigned to me\, a kingdom\, that you may eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom\, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Simon\, Simon\, behold\, Satan demanded to have you\, that he might sift you like wheat\, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again\, strengthen your brethren.” And he said to him\, “Lord\, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.” He said\, “I tell you\, Peter\, the cock will not crow this day\, until you three times deny that you know me. ” And he said to them\, “When I sent you out with no purse or bag or sandals\, did you lack anything?” They said\, “Nothing.” He said to them\, “But now\, let him who has a purse take it\, and likewise a bag. And let him who has no sword sell his mantle and buy one. For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me\, “And he was reckoned with transgressors’; for what is written about me has its fulfillment.” And they said\, “Look\, Lord\, here are two swords. ” And he said to them\, “It is enough.”\n And he came out\, and went\, as was his custom\, to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples followed him.\nEpistle Reading: I Corinthians 11:23-32\nBRETHREN\, I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you\, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread\, and when he had given thanks\, he broke it\, and said\, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also the cup\, after supper\, saying\, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this\, as often as you drink it\, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup\, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.\nWhoever\, therefore\, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself\, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself. That is why many of you are weak and ill\, and some have died. But if we judged ourselves truly\, we should not be judged. But when we are judged by the Lord\, we are chastened so that we may not be condemned along with the world.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 26:1-20; John 13:3-17; Matthew 26:21-39; Luke 22:43-44; Matthew 26:40-75; 27:1-2\nThe Lord said to his disciples\, “You know that after two days the Passover is coming\, and the Son of man will be delivered up to be crucified.”\nThen the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest\, who was called Caiaphas\, and took counsel together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him. But they said\, “Not during the feast\, lest there be a tumult among the people.”\nNow when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper\, a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment\, and she poured it on his head\, as he sat at table. But when the disciples saw it\, they were indignant\, saying\, “Why this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for a large sum\, and given to the poor.”\nBut Jesus\, aware of this\, said to them\, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me.\nFor you always have the poor with you\, but you will not always have me.\nIn pouring this ointment on my body she has done it to prepare me for burial. Truly\, I say to you\, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world\, what she has done will be told in memory of her.”\nThen one of the twelve\, who was called Judas Iscariot\, went to the chief priests and said\, “What will you give me if I deliver him to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.\nNow on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus\, saying\, “Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the Passover?” He said\, “Go into the city to a certain one\, and say to him\, ‘The Teacher says\, My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.'” And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them\, and they prepared the Passover. When it was evening\, he sat at table with the twelve disciples.\nJesus\, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands\, and that he had come from God and was going to God\, rose from supper\, laid aside his garments\, and girded himself with a towel. Then he poured water into a basin\, and began to wash the disciples’ feet\, and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded.\nHe came to Simon Peter; and Peter said to him\, “Lord\, do you wash my feet?” Jesus answered him\, “What I am doing you do not know now\, but afterward you will understand.” Peter said to him\, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him\, “If I do not wash you\, you have no part in me.” Simon Peter said to him\, “Lord\, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him\, “He who has bathed does not need to wash\, except for his feet\, but he is clean all over; and you are clean\, but not every one of you.” For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said\, “You are not all clean.”\nWhen he had washed their feet\, and taken his garments\, and resumed his place\, he said to them\, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord; and you are right\, for so I am. If I then\, your Lord and Teacher\, have washed your feet\, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example\, that you also should do as I have done to you. Truly\, truly\, I say to you\, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things\, blessed are you if you do them.\nAnd as they were eating\, he said\, “Truly\, I say to you\, one of you will betray me.” And they were very sorrowful\, and began to say to him one after another\, “Is it I\, Lord?” He answered\, “He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me\, will betray me. The Son of man goes as it is written of him\, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.” Judas\, who betrayed him\, said\, “Is it I\, Master?” He said to him\, “You have said so.”\nNow as they were eating\, Jesus took bread\, and blessed\, and broke it\, and gave it to the disciples and said\, “Take\, eat; this is my body.” And he took a cup\, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them\, saying\, “Drink of it\, all of you; for this is my blood of the new covenant\, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”\nAnd when they had sung a hymn\, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Then Jesus said to them\, “You will all fall away because of me this night; for it is written\, ‘I will strike the shepherd\, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ But after I am raised up\, I will go before you to Galilee.” Peter declared to him\, “Though they all fall away because of you\, I will never fall away.” Jesus said to him\, “Truly\, I say to you\, this very night\, before the cock crows\, you will deny me three times.” Peter said to him\, “Even if I must die with you\, I will not deny you.” And so said all the disciples.\nThen Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane\, and he said to his disciples\, “Sit here\, while I go yonder and pray.” And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee\, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them\, “My soul is very sorrowful\, even to death; remain here\, and watch with me.” And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed\, “My Father\, if it be possible\, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless\, not as I will\, but as you will.”\nAnd there appeared to him an angel from heaven\, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.\nAnd rising from prayer\, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter\, “So\, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing\, but the flesh is weak.” Again\, for the second time\, he went away and prayed\, “My Father\, if this cannot pass unless I drink it\, your will be done.” And again he came and found them sleeping\, for their eyes were heavy. So\, leaving them again\, he went away and prayed for the third time\, saying the same words. Then he came to the disciples and said to them\, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold\, the hour is at hand\, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise\, let us be going; see\, my betrayer is at hand.”\nWhile he was still speaking\, Judas came\, one of the twelve\, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs\, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. Now the betrayer had given them a sign\, saying\, “The one I shall kiss is the man; seize him.” And he came up to Jesus at once and said\, “Hail\, Rabbi!” And he kissed him. Jesus said to him\, “Friend\, why are you here?” Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him. And behold\, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword\, and struck the slave of the high priest\, and cut off his ear.\nThen Jesus said to him\, “Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father\, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then should the scriptures be fulfilled\, that it must be so?”\nAt that hour Jesus said to the crowds\, “Have you come out as against a robber\, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching\, and you did not seize me. But all this has taken place\, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples forsook him and fled.\nThen those who had seized Jesus led him to Caiaphas the high priest\, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. But Peter followed him at a distance\, as far as the courtyard of the high priest\, and going inside he sat with the guards to see the end. Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death\, but they found none\, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward and said\, “This fellow said\, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God\, and to build it in three days.'”\nAnd the high priest stood up and said\, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?” But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him\, “I adjure you by the living God\, tell us if you are the Christ\, the Son of God.”\nJesus said to him\, “You have said so. But I tell you\, hereafter you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power\, and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest tore his robes\, and said\, “He has uttered blasphemy. Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy. What is your judgment?” They answered\, “He deserves death.” Then they spat in his face\, and struck him; and some slapped him\, saying\, “Prophesy to us\, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?”\nNow Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a maid came up to him\, and said\, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” But he denied it before them all\, saying\, “I do not know what you mean.” And when he went out to the porch\, another maid saw him\, and she said to the bystanders\, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” And again he denied it with an oath\, “I do not know the man.” After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter\, “Certainly you are also one of them\, for your accent betrays you.”\nThen he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear\, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the cock crowed. And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus\, “Before the cock crows\, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.\nWhen morning came\, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death; and they bound him and led him away and delivered him to Pilate the governor.\nERROR: Twelve Gospels

SUMMARY:Holy Wednesday
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 04/16/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Holy Wednesday; Agape\, Chionia\, and Irene\, the Holy Martyrs; Righteous Amphilochios of Patmos; Leonidas and Charissa\, Nike\, Galene\, Kallida\, Nounenchia\, Vasilissa\, and Theodora the Martyrs\nStrict Fast\nGospel Reading: John 12:17-50\nAt that time\, the crowd that had been with Jesus when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. The Pharisees then said to one another\, “You see that you can do nothing; look\, the world has gone after him.”\nNow among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. So these came to Philip\, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee\, and said to him\, “Sir\, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew went with Philip and they told Jesus. And Jesus answered them\, “The hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified. Truly\, truly\, I say to you\, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies\, it remains alone; but if it dies\, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it\, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If any one serves me\, he must follow me; and where I am\, there shall my servant be also; if any one serves me\, the Father will honor him.\n“Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father\, save me from this hour’? No\, for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father\, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven\, “I have glorified it\, and I will glorify it again.” The crowd standing by heard it and said that it had thundered. Others said\, “An angel has spoken to him.” Jesus answered\, “This voice has come for your sake\, not for mine. Now is the judgment of this world\, now shall the ruler of this world be cast out; and I\, when I am lifted up from the earth\, will draw all men to myself.” He said this to show by what death he was to die. The crowd answered him\, “We have heard from the law that the Christ remains for ever. How can you say that the Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?” Jesus said to them\, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light\, lest the darkness overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. While you have the light\, believe in the light\, that you may become sons of light.”\nWhen Jesus had said this\, he departed and hid himself from them. Though he had done so many signs before them\, yet they did not believe in him; it was that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Lord\, who has believed our report\, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” Therefore they could not believe. For Isaiah again said\, “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart\, lest they should see with their eyes and perceive with their heart\, and turn for me to heal them.” Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke of him. Nevertheless many even of the authorities believed in him\, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it\, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.\nAnd Jesus cried out and said\, “He who believes in me\, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And he who sees me sees him who sent me. I have come as light into the world\, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If any one hears my sayings and does not keep them\, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects me and does not receive my sayings has a judge; the word that I have spoken will be his judge on the last day. For I have not spoken on my own authority; the Father who sent me has himself given me commandment what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say\, therefore\, I say as the Father has bidden me.”\nGospel Reading: Matthew 26:6-16\nWhen Jesus was at Bethany at the house of Simon the leper\, a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment and she poured it on his head\, as he sat at table. But when the disciples saw it\, they were indignant\, saying\, “Why this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for a large sum\, and given to the poor.” But Jesus\, aware of this\, said to them\, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. For you always have the poor with you\, but you will not always have me. In pouring this ointment on my body she has done it to prepare me for burial. Truly\, I say to you wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world\, what she has done will be told in memory of her.” Then one of the twelve\, who was called Judas Iscariot\, went to the chief priests and said\, “What will you give me if I deliver him to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.

SUMMARY:Holy Tuesday
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 04/15/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Holy Tuesday; Crescens the Martyr; Leonidas\, Bishop of Athens; Michael the New Martyr of Smyrna; The 9 Monk-martyrs of Corinth; Padarn\, Bishop and Founder of Llandabarn Fawr\nStrict Fast\nGospel Reading: Matthew 22:15-46; 23:1-39\nAt that time\, the Pharisees went and took counsel against Jesus\, how to entangle him in his talk. And they sent their disciples to him\, along with the Herodians\, saying\, “Teacher\, we know that you are true\, and teach the way of God truthfully\, and care for no man; for you do not regard the position of men. Tell us\, then\, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar\, or not?” But Jesus\, aware of their malice\, said\, “Why put me to the test\, you hypocrites? Show me the money for the tax.” And they brought him a coin. And Jesus said to them\, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” They said\, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them\, “Render\, therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s\, and to God the things that are God’s. ” When they heard it\, they marveled; and they left him and went away.\nThe same day the Sadducees came to him\, who say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him a question saying\, “Teacher\, Moses said\, ‘If a man dies\, having no children\, his brother must marry the widow\, and raise up children for his brother.’ Now there were seven brothers among us; the first married\, and died\, and having no children left his wife to his brother. So too the second and third\, down to the seventh. After them all\, the woman died. In the resurrection\, therefore\, to which of the seven will she be wife? For they all had her.”\nBut Jesus answered them\, “You are wrong\, because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage\, but are like angels of God in heaven. And as for the resurrection of the dead\, have you not read what was said to you by God\, ‘I am the God of Abraham\, and the God of Isaac\, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead\, but of the living.” And when the crowd heard it\, they were astonished at his teaching.\nBut when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees\, they came together. And one of them\, a lawyer\, asked him a question\, to test him. “Teacher\, which is the great commandment in the law?” And he said to him\, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart\, and with all your soul\, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.”\nNow while the Pharisees were gathered together\, Jesus asked them a question\, saying: “What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him\, “The son of David.” He said to them\, “How is it then that David\, inspired by the Spirit\, calls him Lord\, saying\, ‘The Lord said to my Lord\, sit at my right hand\, till I put your enemies under your feet’? If David thus calls him Lord\, how is he his son?” And no one was able to answer him a word\, nor from that day did any one dare to ask him any more questions.\nThen said Jesus to the crowds and to his disciples\, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat; so practice and observe whatever they tell you\, but not what they do; for they preach but do not practice. They bind heavy burdens\, hard to bear\, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger. They do all their deeds to be seen by men; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long\, and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues\, and salutations in the market places\, and being called rabbi by men\, but you are not to be called rabbi\, for you have one teacher\, and you are all brethren. And call no man your father on earth\, for you have one Father\, who is in heaven. Neither be called masters\, for you have one master\, the Christ. He who is greatest among you shall be your servant; whoever exalts himself will be humbled\, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.\n“But woe to you\, scribes and Pharisees\, hypocrites! for you devour widows’ houses and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive the greater condemnation. Woe to you\, scribes and Pharisees\, hypocrites! because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves\, nor allow those who would enter to go in. Woe to you\, scribes and Pharisees\, hypocrites! for you traverse sea and land to make a single proselyte\, and when he becomes a proselyte\, you make him twice as much a child of Gehenna as yourselves.\n“Woe to you\, blind guides\, who say\, ‘If any one swears by the temple\, it is nothing; but if any one swears by the gold of the temple\, he is bound by his oath.’ You blind fools! For which is greater\, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred? And you say\, ‘If any one swears by the altar\, it is nothing; but if any one swears by the gift that is on the altar\, he is bound by his oath.’ You blind men! For which is greater\, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? So he who swears by the altar\, swears by it and by everything on it; and he who swears by the temple\, swears by it and by him who dwells in it; and he who swears by heaven\, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.\n“Woe to you\, scribes and Pharisees\, hypocrites! for you tithe mint and dill and cumin\, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law\, justice and mercy and faith; these you ought to have done without neglecting the others. You blind guides\, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel! “Woe to you\, scribes and Pharisees\, hypocrites! for you cleanse the outside of the cup and of the plate\, but inside they are full of extortion and rapacity. You blind Pharisee! first cleanse the inside of the cup and of the plate\, that the outside also may be clean. Woe to you\, scribes and Pharisees\, hypocrites! for you are like white-washed tombs\, which outwardly appear beautiful\, but within they are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. So you also outwardly appear to men\, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. Woe to you\, scribes and Pharisees\, hypocrites! for you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous\, saying\, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers\, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ Thus you witness against yourselves\, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up\, then\, the measure of your fathers. You serpents\, you brood of vipers\, how are you to escape being sentenced to Gehenna? Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes\, some of whom you will kill and crucify\, and some you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from town to town\, that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth\, from the blood of innocent Abel to the blood of Zacharias the son of Barachiah\, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. Truly\, I say to you\, all this will come upon this generation.\n“O Jerusalem\, Jerusalem\, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings\, and you would not! Behold\, your house is forsaken and desolate. For I tell you\, you will not see me again\, until you say\, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'”\nGospel Reading: Matthew 24:36-51; 25:1-46; 26:1-2\nThe Lord said to his disciples\, “Of that day and hour no one knows\, not even the angels of heaven\, but the Father only. As were the days of Noah\, so will be the coming of the Son of man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking\, marrying and giving in marriage\, until the day when Noah entered the ark\, and they did not know until the flood came and swept them all away\, so will be the coming of the Son of man. Then two men will be in the field; one is taken and one is left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one is taken and one is left. Watch therefore\, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this\, that if the householder had known in what part of the night the thief was coming\, he would have watched and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.\n“Who then is the faithful and wise servant\, whom his master has set over his household\, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. Truly\, I say to you\, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that wicked servant says to himself\, ‘My master is delayed\,’ and begins to beat his fellow servants\, and eats and drinks with the drunken\, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know\, and will cut him in pieces\, and put him with the hypocrites; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.\n“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be compared to ten maidens who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish\, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps\, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed\, they all slumbered and slept. But at midnight there was a cry\, ‘Behold\, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those maidens rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise\, ‘Give us some of your oil\, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise replied\, ‘Perhaps there will not be enough for us and for you; go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ And while they went to buy\, the bridegroom came\, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut. Afterward the other maidens came also\, saying\, ‘Lord\, Lord\, open to us.’ But he replied\, ‘Truly\, I say to you\, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore\, for you know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of man shall come.\n“For it will be as when a man going on a journey called his servants and entrusted to them his property; to one he gave five talents\, to another two\, to another one\, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them; and he made five talents more. So also\, he who had the two talents made two talents more. But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money. Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. And he who had received the five talents came forward\, bringing five talents more\, saying\, ‘Master\, you delivered to me five talents; here I have made five talents more.’ His master said to him\, ‘Well done\, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little\, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.’ And he also who had the two talents came forward\, saying\, ‘Master\, you delivered to me two talents; here I have made two talents more.’ His master said to him\, ‘Well done\, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little\, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.’ He also who had received the one talent came forward\, saying\, ‘Master\, I knew you to be a hard man\, reaping where you did not sow\, and gathering where you did not winnow; so I was afraid\, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is yours.’ But his master answered him\, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sowed\, and gather where I have not winnowed? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers\, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. So take the talent from him\, and give it to him who has the ten talents. For to every one who has will more be given\, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not\, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.’\n“When the Son of man comes in his glory\, and all the angels with him\, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations\, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats\, and he will place the sheep at his right hand\, but the goats at the left. Then the King will say to those at his right hand\, ‘Come\, O blessed of my Father\, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food\, I was thirsty and you gave me drink\, I was a stranger and you welcomed me\, I was naked and you clothed me\, I was sick and you visited me\, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him\, ‘Lord\, when did we see you hungry and feed you\, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you\, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them\, ‘Truly\, I say to you\, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren\, you did it to me.’ Then he will say to those at his left hand\, ‘Depart from me\, you cursed\, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food\, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink\, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me\, naked and you did not clothe me\, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Then they also will answer\, ‘Lord\, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison\, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them\, ‘Truly\, I say to you\, as you did it not to one of the least of these\, you did it not to me.’ And they will go away into eternal punishment\, but the righteous into eternal life.”\nWhen Jesus had finished all these sayings\, he said to his disciples\, “You know that after two days the Passover is coming\, and the Son of man will be delivered up to be crucified.”
