For these men are not drunk\, as you suppose\, since it is only the third hour of the day; but this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And in the last days it shall be\, God declares\, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh\, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy\, and your young men shall see visions\, and your old men shall dream dreams; yea\, and on my menservants and my maid servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And it shall be that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'”\nGospel Reading: Luke 24:12-35\nAt that time\,  two of them were going to a village named Emmaus\, about seven miles from Jerusalem\, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing together\, Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from recognizing Him. And He said to them\, “What is this conversation which you are holding with each other as you walk?” and they stood still\, looking sad. Then one of them\, named Cleopas\, answered Him\, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” And He said to them\, “What things?” And they said to him\, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth\, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people\, and how our chief priests and rulers delivered Him up to be condemned to death\, and crucified Him. But we had hoped that He was the one to redeem Israel. Yes\, and besides all this\, it is now the third day since this happened. Moreover\, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find His body; and they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels\, who said that He was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb\, and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see.” And He said to them\, “O foolish men\, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was not it necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into this glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the prophets\, He interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself. So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He appeared to be going further\, but they constrained Him\, saying\, “Stay with us\, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So He went in to stay with them. When He was at table with them\, He took the bread and blessed\, and broke it\, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished out of their sight. They said to each other\, “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road\, while He opened to us the scriptures?” And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven gathered together and those who were with them\, who said\, “The Lord has risen indeed\, and has appeared to Simon!” Then they told what had happened on the road and how He was known to them in the breaking of the bread.

All these with one accord devoted themselves to prayer\, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus\, and with his brothers.\nIn those days Peter stood up among the brethren (the company of persons was in all about a hundred and twenty)\, and said\, “Brethren\, the scripture had to be fulfilled\, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David\, concerning Judas who was guide to those who arrested Jesus. And they prayed and said\, “Lord\, who knowest the hearts of all men\, show which one of these two thou hast chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside\, to go to his own place.” And they cast lots for them\, and the lot fell on Matthias; and he was enrolled with the eleven apostles.\nGospel Reading: John 1:18-28\nNo one has ever seen God; the only-begotten Son\, who is in the bosom of the Father\, he has made him known.\nAnd this is the testimony of John\, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him\, “Who are you?” He confessed\, he did not deny\, but confessed\, “I am not the Christ.” And they asked him\, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said\, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” And he answered\, “No.” They said to him then\, “Who are you? let us have an answer for those who sent us. Εν τω κόσμω ήν\, καί ο κόσμος δι᾽ αυτού εγένετο\, καί ο κόσμος αυτόν ουκ έγνω. Εις τα ίδια ήλθε\, καί οι ίδιοι αυτόν ου παρέλαβον.  Όσοι δε έλαβον αυτόν\, έδωκεν αυτοίς εξουσίαν τέκνα Θεού γενέσθαι\, τοίς πιστεύουσιν εις το όνομα αυτού\, οί ουκ εξ αιμάτων\, ουδέ εκ θελήματος σαρκός\, ουδέ εκ θελήματος ανδρός\, αλλ᾽ εκ Θεού εγεννήθησαν.\nΚαι ο Λόγος σάρξ εγένετο καί εσκήνωσεν εν ημίν\, καί εθεασάμεθα την δόξαν αυτού\, δόξαν ως μονογενούς παρά πατρός\, πλήρης χάριτος και αληθείας. Εισήλθε δε ο σατανάς εις ᾿Ιούδαν τον επικαλούμενον ᾿Ισκαριώτην\, όντα εκ του αριθμού των δώδεκα\, καί απελθών συνελάλησε τοις αρχιερεύσι και γραμματεύσι και στρατηγοίς το πώς αυτόν παραδώ αυτοίς. καί εχάρησαν\, και συνέθεντο αυτώ αργύρια δούναι· καί εξωμολόγησε\, και εζήτει ευκαιρίαν του παραδούναι αυτόν αυτοίς άτερ όχλου. ῏Ηλθε δε η ημέρα των αζύμων\, εν ή έδει θύεσθαι το πάσχα\, καί απέστειλε Πέτρον και ᾿Ιωάννην ειπών· πορευθέντες ετοιμάσατε ημίν το πάσχα ίνα φάγωμεν. οι δε είπον αυτώ· πού θέλεις ετοιμάσωμεν; ο δε είπεν αυτοίς· ιδού εισελθόντων υμών εις την πόλιν συναντήσει υμίν άνθρωπος κεράμιον ύδατος βαστάζων· ακολουθήσατε αυτώ εις την οικίαν ού εισπορεύεται\, καί ερείτε τω οικοδεσπότη της οικίας· λέγει σοι ο διδάσκαλος\, πού εστι το κατάλυμα όπου το πάσχα μετά των μαθητών μου φάγω; κακείνος υμίν δείξει ανώγαιον μέγα εστρωμένον· εκεί ετοιμάσατε. απελθόντες δε εύρον καθώς είρηκεν αυτοίς\, και ητοίμασαν το πάσχα. \nΚαι ότε εγένετο η ώρα\, ανέπεσε\, και οι δώδεκα απόστολοι σύν αυτώ. καί είπε πρός αυτούς· επιθυμία επεθύμησα τούτο το πάσχα φαγείν μεθ᾿ υμών πρό του με παθείν· λέγω γαρ υμίν ότι ουκέτι ου μή φάγω εξ αυτού έως ότου πληρωθή εν τη βασιλεία του Θεού. καί δεξάμενος το ποτήριον ευχαριστήσας είπε· λάβετε τούτο και διαμερίσατε εαυτοίς· λέγω γαρ υμίν ότι ου μή πίω από του γενήματος της αμπέλου έως ότου η βασιλεία του Θεού έλθη. καί λαβών άρτον ευχαριστήσας έκλασε και έδωκεν αυτοίς λέγων· τούτό εστι το σώμά μου το υπέρ υμών διδόμενον· τούτο ποιείτε εις την εμήν ανάμνησιν. ωσαύτως και το ποτήριον μετά το δειπνήσαι λέγων· τούτο το ποτήριον η καινή διαθήκη εν τω αίματί μου\, το υπέρ υμών εκχυνόμενον. πλήν ιδού η χείρ του παραδιδόντος με μετ᾿ εμού επί της τραπέζης. καί ο μέν υιός του ανθρώπου πορεύεται κατά το ωρισμένον· πλήν ουαί τω ανθρώπω εκείνω δι᾿ ού παραδίδοται. καί αυτοί ήρξαντο συζητείν πρός εαυτούς το τίς άρα είη εξ αυτών ο τούτο μέλλων πράσσειν. ᾿Εγένετο δε και φιλονεικία εν αυτοίς\, το τίς αυτών δοκεί είναι μείζων. ο δε είπεν αυτοίς· οι βασιλείς των εθνών κυριεύουσιν αυτών\, και οι εξουσιάζοντες αυτών ευεργέται καλούνται· υμείς δε ουχ ούτως\, αλλ᾿ ο μείζων εν υμίν γινέσθω ως ο νεώτερος\, και ο ηγούμενος ως ο διακονών. τίς γαρ μείζων\, ο ανακείμενος ή ο διακονών; ουχί ο ανακείμενος; εγώ δέ ειμι εν μέσω υμών ως ο διακονών. υμείς δέ εστε οι διαμεμενηκότες μετ᾿ εμού εν τοις πειρασμοίς μου· καγώ διατίθεμαι υμίν καθώς διέθετό μοι ο πατήρ μου βασιλείαν\, ίνα εσθίητε και πίνητε επί της τραπέζης μου εν τη βασιλεία μου\, και καθίσεσθε επί θρόνων κρίνοντες τάς δώδεκα φυλάς του ᾿Ισραήλ.\nΕίπε δε ο Κύριος· Σίμων Σίμων\, ιδού ο σατανάς εξητήσατο υμάς του σινιάσαι ως τον σίτον· εγώ δε εδεήθην περί σού ίνα μή εκλίπη η πίστις σου· και σύ ποτε επιστρέψας στήριξον τους αδελφούς σου. ο δε είπεν αυτώ· Κύριε\, μετά σού έτοιμός ειμι και εις φυλακήν και εις θάνατον πορεύεσθαι. ο δε είπε· λέγω σοι\, Πέτρε\, ου φωνήσει σήμερον αλέκτωρ πρίν ή τρίς απαρνήση μή ειδέναι με. Και είπεν αυτοίς· ότε απέστειλα υμάς άτερ βαλλαντίου και πήρας και υποδημάτων\, μή τινος υστερήθητε; οι δε είπον· ουθενός. είπεν ούν αυτοίς· αλλά νύν ο έχων βαλλάντιον αράτω\, ομοίως και πήραν\, και ο μή έχων πωλήσει το ιμάτιον αυτού και αγοράσει μάχαιραν. λέγω γαρ υμίν ότι έτι τούτο το γεγραμμένον δεί τελεσθήναι εν εμοί\, το και μετά ανόμων ελογίσθη· και γαρ τα περί εμού τέλος έχει. οι δε είπον· Κύριε\, ιδού μάχαιραι ώδε δύο. ο δε είπεν αυτοίς· ικανόν εστι. Και εξελθών επορεύθη κατά το έθος εις το όρος των ελαιών· ηκολούθησαν δε αυτώ και οι μαθηταί αυτού. \nΑνάγνωσις Επιστολής: Α’ Κορινθ. 11:23-32\nΑδελφοί\, εγώ γαρ παρέλαβον από του κυρίου\, ό και παρέδωκα υμίν\, ότι ο κύριος Ιησούς εν τη νυκτί ή παρεδίδοτο έλαβεν άρτον\, και ευχαριστήσας έκλασεν\, και είπεν\, Λάβετε\, φάγετε\, Τούτό μού εστιν το σώμα το υπέρ υμών κλώμενον· τούτο ποιείτε εις την εμήν ανάμνησιν. Ωσαύτως και το ποτήριον\, μετά το δειπνήσαι\, λέγων\, Τούτο το ποτήριον η καινή διαθήκη εστίν εν τω εμώ αίματι· τούτο ποιείτε\, οσάκις άν πίνητε\, εις την εμήν ανάμνησιν. Κρινόμενοι δέ\, υπό κυρίου παιδευόμεθα\, ίνα μή σύν τω κόσμω κατακριθώμεν.\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου: Κατά Ματθαίον 26:1-20\, Ιωάννην 13:3-17\, Ματθαίον 26:21-39\, Λουκάν 22:43-44\, Ματθαίον 26:40-75\, 27:1-2\nΕίπεν ο Κύριος τοις εαυτού Μαθηταίς· Οίδατε ότι μετά δύο ημέρας το πάσχα γίνεται\, και ο υιός του ανθρώπου παραδίδοται εις το σταυρωθήναι. Τότε συνήχθησαν οι αρχιερείς και οι γραμματείς και οι πρεσβύτεροι του λαού εις την αυλήν του αρχιερέως του λεγομένου Καϊάφα\, και συνεβουλεύσαντο ίνα τον Ιησούν δόλω κρατήσωσι και αποκτείνωσιν. έλεγον δέ· Μή εν τη εορτή\, ίνα μή θόρυβος γένηται εν τω λαώ. Του δε Ιησού γενομένου εν Βηθανία εν οικία Σίμωνος του λεπρού\, προσήλθεν αυτώ γυνή αλάβαστρον μύρου έχουσα βαρυτίμου\, και κατέχεεν επί την κεφαλήν αυτού ανακειμένου. ιδόντες δε οι μαθηταί αυτού ηγανάκτησαν λέγοντες· Εις τί η απώλεια αύτη; ηδύνατο γαρ τούτο το μύρον πραθήναι πολλού και δοθήναι τοις πτωχοίς. γνούς δε ο Ιησούς είπεν αυτοίς· Τί κόπους παρέχετε τη γυναικί; έργον γαρ καλόν ειργάσατο εις εμέ. τους πτωχούς γαρ πάντοτε έχετε μεθ’ εαυτών\, εμέ δε ου πάντοτε έχετε. βαλούσα γαρ αύτη το μύρον τούτο επί του σώματός μου\, πρός το ενταφιάσαι με εποίησεν. αμήν λέγω υμίν\, όπου εάν κηρυχθή το ευαγγέλιον τούτο εν όλω τω κόσμω\, λαληθήσεται και ό εποίησεν αύτη εις μνημόσυνον αυτής. Τότε πορευθείς εις των δώδεκα\, ο λεγόμενος Ιούδας Ισκαριώτης\, πρός τους αρχιερείς είπε· Τί θέλετέ μοι δούναι\, και εγώ υμίν παραδώσω αυτόν; οι δε έστησαν αυτώ τριάκοντα αργύρια. και από τότε εζήτει ευκαιρίαν ίνα αυτόν παραδώ. Τη δε πρώτη των αζύμων προσήλθον οι μαθηταί τω Ιησού λέγοντες αυτώ· Πού θέλεις ετοιμάσωμέν σοι φαγείν το πάσχα; ο δε είπεν· Υπάγετε εις την πόλιν πρός τον δείνα και είπατε αυτώ· ο διδάσκαλος λέγει\, ο καιρός μου εγγύς εστι· πρός σε ποιώ το πάσχα μετά των μαθητών μου. και εποίησαν οι μαθηταί ως συνέταξεν αυτοίς ο Ιησούς\, και ητοίμασαν το πάσχα. Οψίας δε γενομένης ανέκειτο μετά των δώδεκα.\nΕιδώς ο δε ο Ιησούς ότι πάντα δέδωκεν αυτώ ο πατήρ εις τάς χείρας\, και ότι από Θεού εξήλθε και πρός τον Θεόν υπάγει\, εγείρεται εκ του δείπνου και τίθησι τα ιμάτια\, και λαβών λέντιον διέζωσεν εαυτόν. είτα βάλλει ύδωρ εις τον νιπτήρα\, και ήρξατο νίπτειν τους πόδας των μαθητών και εκμάσσειν τω λεντίω ώ ήν διεζωσμένος. έρχεται ούν πρός Σίμωνα Πέτρον\, και λέγει αυτώ εκείνος· Κύριε\, σύ μου νίπτεις τους πόδας; απεκρίθη Ιησούς και είπεν αυτώ· Ό εγώ ποιώ\, σύ ουκ οίδας άρτι\, γνώση δε μετά ταύτα. λέγει αυτώ Πέτρος· Ου μή νίψης τους πόδας μου εις τον αιώνα. απεκρίθη αυτώ ο Ιησούς· Εάν μή νίψω σε\, ουκ έχεις μέρος μετ’ εμού. λέγει αυτώ Σίμων Πέτρος· Κύριε\, μή τους πόδας μου μόνον\, αλλά και τάς χείρας και την κεφαλήν. λέγει αυτώ ο Ιησούς· Ο λελουμένος ου χρείαν έχει ή τους πόδας νίψασθαι\, αλλ’ έστι καθαρός όλος· και υμείς καθαροί εστε\, αλλ’ ουχί πάντες. ᾔδει γαρ τον παραδιδόντα αυτόν· διά τούτο είπεν· ουχί πάντες καθαροί εστε. Ότε ούν ένιψε τους πόδας αυτών και έλαβε τα ιμάτια αυτού\, αναπεσών πάλιν\, είπεν αυτοίς· Γινώσκετε τί πεποίηκα υμίν; υμείς φωνείτέ με\, ο Διδάσκαλος και ο Κύριος\, και καλώς λέγετε· ειμί γάρ. ει ούν εγώ ένιψα υμών τους πόδας\, ο Κύριος και ο Διδάσκαλος\, και υμείς οφείλετε αλλήλων νίπτειν τους πόδας. υπόδειγμα γαρ δέδωκα υμίν\, ίνα καθώς εγώ εποίησα υμίν\, και υμείς ποιήτε. αμήν αμήν λέγω υμίν\, ουκ έστι δούλος μείζων του κυρίου αυτού\, ουδέ απόστολος μείζων του πέμψαντος αυτόν. ει ταύτα οίδατε\, μακάριοί εστε εάν ποιήτε αυτά.\nΚαι εσθιόντων αυτών είπεν· Αμήν λέγω υμίν ότι εις εξ υμών παραδώσει με. και λυπούμενοι σφόδρα ήρξαντο λέγειν αυτώ έκαστος αυτών· Μήτι εγώ ειμι\, Κύριε; ο δε αποκριθείς είπεν· Ο εμβάψας μετ’ εμού εν τω τρυβλίω την χείρα ούτός με παραδώσει. ο μέν υιός του ανθρώπου υπάγει καθώς γέγραπται περί αυτού· ουαί δε τω ανθρώπω εκείνω δι’ ού ο υιός του ανθρώπου παραδίδοται· καλόν ήν αυτώ ει ουκ εγεννήθη ο άνθρωπος εκείνος. αποκριθείς δε Ιούδας ο παραδιδούς αυτόν είπε· Μήτι εγώ ειμι\, ραββί; λέγει αυτώ· Σύ είπας. Εσθιόντων δε αυτών λαβών ο Ιησούς τον άρτον και ευλογήσας έκλασε και εδίδου τοις μαθηταίς και είπε· Λάβετε φάγετε· τούτό εστι το σώμά μου· και λαβών το ποτήριον και ευχαριστήσας έδωκεν αυτοίς λέγων· Πίετε εξ αυτού πάντες· τούτο γάρ εστι το αίμά μου το της καινής διαθήκης το περί πολλών εκχυνόμενον εις άφεσιν αμαρτιών. λέγω δε υμίν ότι ου μή πίω απ’ άρτι εκ τούτου του γεννήματος της αμπέλου έως της ημέρας εκείνης\, όταν αυτό πίνω μεθ’ υμών καινόν εν τη βασιλεία του πατρός μου. Και υμνήσαντες εξήλθον εις το όρος των ελαιών. Τότε λέγει αυτοίς ο Ιησούς· Πάντες υμείς σκανδαλισθήσεσθε εν εμοί εν τη νυκτί ταύτη· γέγραπται γάρ\, πατάξω τον ποιμένα\, και διασκορπισθήσονται τα πρόβατα της ποίμνης· μετά δε το εγερθήναί με προάξω υμάς εις την Γαλιλαίαν. αποκριθείς δε ο Πέτρος είπεν αυτώ· Ει πάντες σκανδαλισθήσονται εν σοί\, εγώ δε ουδέποτε σκανδαλισθήσομαι. έφη αυτώ ο Ιησούς· Αμήν λέγω σοι ότι εν ταύτη τη νυκτί πρίν αλέκτορα φωνήσαι τρίς απαρνήση με. λέγει αυτώ ο Πέτρος· Κάν δέη με σύν σοί αποθανείν\, ου μή σε απαρνήσομαι. ομοίως δε και πάντες οι μαθηταί είπον. Τότε έρχεται μετ’ αυτών ο Ιησούς εις χωρίον λεγόμενον Γεθσημανή\, και λέγει τοις μαθηταίς· Καθίσατε αυτού έως ού απελθών προσεύξωμαι εκεί. και παραλαβών τον Πέτρον και τους δύο υιούς Ζεβεδαίου ήρξατο λυπείσθαι και αδημονείν. τότε λέγει αυτοίς ο Ιησούς· Περίλυπός εστιν η ψυχή μου έως θανάτου· μείνατε ώδε και γρηγορείτε μετ’ εμού. και προελθών μικρόν έπεσεν επί πρόσωπον αυτού προσευχόμενος και λέγων· Πάτερ μου\, ει δυνατόν εστι\, παρελθέτω απ’ εμού το ποτήριον τούτο· πλήν ουχ ως εγώ θέλω\, αλλ’ ως σύ.\nΏφθη δε αυτώ άγγελος απ’ ουρανού ενισχύων αυτόν. και γενόμενος εν αγωνία εκτενέστερον προσηύχετο. εγένετο δε ο ιδρώς αυτού ωσεί θρόμβοι αίματος καταβαίνοντες επί την γήν.\nΚαι αναστάς από της προσευχής έρχεται πρός τους μαθητάς και ευρίσκει αυτούς καθεύδοντας\, και λέγει τω Πέτρω· Ούτως ουκ ισχύσατε μίαν ώραν γρηγορήσαι μετ’ εμού! γρηγορείτε και προσεύχεσθε\, ίνα μή εισέλθητε εις πειρασμόν· το μέν πνεύμα πρόθυμον\, η δε σάρξ ασθενής. πάλιν εκ δευτέρου απελθών προσηύξατο λέγων· Πάτερ μου\, ει ου δύναται τούτο το ποτήριον παρελθείν απ’ εμού εάν μή αυτό πίω\, γενηθήτω το θέλημά σου. και ελθών ευρίσκει αυτούς πάλιν καθεύδοντας· ήσαν γαρ αυτών οι οφθαλμοί βεβαρημένοι. και αφείς αυτούς απελθών πάλιν προσηύξατο εκ τρίτου τον αυτόν λόγον ειπών. τότε έρχεται πρός τους μαθητάς αυτού και λέγει αυτοίς· Καθεύδετε το λοιπόν και αναπαύεσθε! ιδού ήγγικεν η ώρα και ο υιός του ανθρώπου παραδίδοται εις χείρας αμαρτωλών. εγείρεσθε\, άγωμεν· ιδού ήγγικεν ο παραδιδούς με. Και έτι αυτού λαλούντος ιδού Ιούδας εις των δώδεκα ήλθε\, και μετ’ αυτού όχλος πολύς μετά μαχαιρών και ξύλων από των αρχιερέων και πρεσβυτέρων του λαού. ο δε παραδιδούς αυτόν έδωκεν αυτοίς σημείον λέγων· Όν άν φιλήσω αυτός εστι· κρατήσατε αυτόν. και ευθέως προσελθών τω Ιησού είπε· Χαίρε\, ραββί\, και κατεφίλησεν αυτόν. ο δε Ιησούς είπεν αυτώ· Εταίρε\, εφ’ ό πάρει; τότε προσελθόντες επέβαλον τάς χείρας επί τον Ιησούν και εκράτησαν αυτόν. και ιδού εις των μετά Ιησού εκτείνας την χείρα απέσπασε την μάχαιραν αυτού\, και πατάξας τον δούλον του αρχιερέως αφείλεν αυτού το ωτίον. τότε λέγει αυτώ ο Ιησούς· Απόστρεψον σου την μάχαιραν εις τον τόπον αυτής· πάντες γαρ οι λαβόντες μάχαιραν εν μαχαίρη αποθανούνται. ή δοκείς ότι ου δύναμαι άρτι παρακαλέσαι τον πατέρα μου\, και παραστήσει μοι πλείους ή δώδεκα λεγεώνας αγγέλων; πώς ούν πληρωθώσιν αι γραφαί ότι ούτω δεί γενέσθαι; Εν εκείνη τη ώρα είπεν ο Ιησούς τοις όχλοις· Ως επί ληστήν εξήλθετε μετά μαχαιρών και ξύλων συλλαβείν με· καθ’ ημέραν πρός υμάς εκαθεζόμην διδάσκων εν τω ιερώ\, και ουκ εκρατήσατέ με. τούτο δε όλον γέγονεν ίνα πληρωθώσιν αι γραφαί των προφητών. Τότε οι μαθηταί πάντες αφέντες αυτόν έφυγον. Οι δε κρατήσαντες τον Ιησούν απήγαγον πρός Καϊάφαν τον αρχιερέα\, όπου οι γραμματείς και οι πρεσβύτεροι συνήχθησαν. ο δε Πέτρος ηκολούθει αυτώ από μακρόθεν έως της αυλής του αρχιερέως\, και εισελθών έσω εκάθητο μετά των υπηρετών ιδείν το τέλος. οι δε αρχιερείς οι πρεσβύτεροι και το συνέδριον όλον εζήτουν ψευδομαρτυρίαν κατά του Ιησού όπως θανατώσωσιν αυτόν\, και ουχ εύρον· και πολλών ψευδομαρτύρων προσελθόντων\, ουχ εύρον. ύστερον δε προσελθόντες δύο ψευδομάρτυρες είπον· Ούτος έφη\, δύναμαι καταλύσαι τον ναόν του Θεού και διά τριών ημερών οικοδομήσαι αυτόν. και αναστάς ο αρχιερεύς είπεν αυτώ· Ουδέν αποκρίνη; τί ούτοί σου καταμαρτυρούσιν; ο δε Ιησούς εσιώπα. και αποκριθείς ο αρχιερεύς είπεν αυτώ· Εξορκίζω σε κατά του Θεού του ζώντος ίνα ημίν είπης ει σύ ει ο Χριστός ο υιός του Θεού. λέγει αυτώ ο Ιησούς· Σύ είπας· πλήν λέγω υμίν\, απ’ άρτι όψεσθε τον υιόν του ανθρώπου καθήμενον εκ δεξιών της δυνάμεως και ερχόμενον επί των νεφελών του ουρανού. τότε ο αρχιερεύς διέῤρηξε τα ιμάτια αυτού λέγων ότι Εβλασφήμησε· τί έτι χρείαν έχομεν μαρτύρων; ίδε νύν ηκούσατε την βλασφημίαν αυτού· τί υμίν δοκεί; οι δε αποκριθέντες είπον· Ένοχος θανάτου εστί. At last two came forward and said\, “This fellow said\, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God\, and to build it in three days.'”\nAnd the high priest stood up and said\, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?” But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him\, “I adjure you by the living God\, tell us if you are the Christ\, the Son of God.”\nJesus said to him\, “You have said so. But I tell you\, hereafter you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power\, and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest tore his robes\, and said\, “He has uttered blasphemy. Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy. What is your judgment?” They answered\, “He deserves death.” Then they spat in his face\, and struck him; and some slapped him\, saying\, “Prophesy to us\, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?”\nNow Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a maid came up to him\, and said\, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” But he denied it before them all\, saying\, “I do not know what you mean.” And when he went out to the porch\, another maid saw him\, and she said to the bystanders\, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” And again he denied it with an oath\, “I do not know the man.” After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter\, “Certainly you are also one of them\, for your accent betrays you.”\nThen he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear\, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the cock crowed. Τοσαύτα δε αυτού σημεία πεποιηκότος έμπροσθεν αυτών ουκ επίστευον εις αυτόν\, ίνα ο λόγος ῾Ησαΐου του προφήτου πληρωθή όν είπε· Κύριε\, τίς επίστευσε τη ακοή ημών; και ο βραχίων Κυρίου τίνι απεκαλύφθη; διά τούτο ουκ ηδύναντο πιστεύειν\, ότι πάλιν είπεν ῾Ησαΐας· τετύφλωκεν αυτών τους οφθαλμούς και πεπώρωκεν αυτών την καρδίαν\, ίνα μή ίδωσι τοις οφθαλμοίς και νοήσωσι τη καρδία και επιστραφώσι\, και ιάσομαι αυτούς. ταύτα είπεν ῾Ησαΐας ότε είδε την δόξαν αυτού και ελάλησε περί αυτού. όμως μέντοι και εκ των αρχόντων πολλοί επίστευσαν εις αυτόν\, αλλά διά τους Φαρισαίους ουχ ωμολόγουν\, ίνα μή αποσυνάγωγοι γένωνται· ηγάπησαν γαρ την δόξαν των ανθρώπων μάλλον ήπερ την δόξαν του Θεού.\n᾿Ιησούς δε έκραξε και είπεν· ο πιστεύων εις εμέ ου πιστεύει εις εμέ\, αλλ᾽ εις τον πέμψαντά με\, καί ο θεωρών εμέ θεωρεί τον πέμψαντά με. εγώ φώς εις τον κόσμον ελήλυθα\, ίνα πάς ο πιστεύων εις εμέ εν τη σκοτία μή μείνη. καί εάν τίς μου ακούση των ρημάτων και μή πιστεύση\, εγώ ου κρίνω αυτόν· ου γαρ ήλθον ίνα κρίνω τον κόσμον\, αλλ᾽ ίνα σώσω τον κόσμον. ο αθετών εμέ και μή λαμβάνων τα ρήματά μου\, έχει τον κρίνοντα αυτόν· ο λόγος όν ελάλησα\, εκείνος κρινεί αυτόν εν τη εσχάτη ημέρα· ότι εγώ εξ εμαυτού ουκ ελάλησα\, αλλ᾽ ο πέμψας με πατήρ αυτός μοι εντολήν έδωκε τί είπω και τί λαλήσω· καί οίδα ότι η εντολή αυτού ζωή αιώνιός εστιν. ά ούν λαλώ εγώ\, καθώς είρηκέ μοι ο πατήρ\, ούτω λαλώ.\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου: Κατά Ματθαίον  26:6-16\nΤου δε ᾿Ιησού γενομένου εν Βηθανία εν οικία Σίμωνος του λεπρού\, προσήλθεν αυτώ γυνή αλάβαστρον μύρου έχουσα βαρυτίμου\, και κατέχεεν επί την κεφαλήν αυτού ανακειμένου. ιδόντες δε οι μαθηταί αυτού ηγανάκτησαν λέγοντες· εις τί η απώλεια αύτη; ηδύνατο γαρ τούτο το μύρον πραθήναι πολλού και δοθήναι τοις πτωχοίς. γνούς δε ο ᾿Ιησούς είπεν αυτοίς· τί κόπους παρέχετε τη γυναικί; έργον γαρ καλόν ειργάσατο εις εμέ. τους πτωχούς γαρ πάντοτε έχετε μεθ’ εαυτών\, εμέ δε ου πάντοτε έχετε. βαλούσα γαρ αύτη το μύρον τούτο επί του σώματός μου\, πρός το ενταφιάσαι με εποίησεν. αμήν λέγω υμίν\, όπου εάν κηρυχθή το ευαγγέλιον τούτο εν όλω τω κόσμω\, λαληθήσεται και ό εποίησεν αύτη εις μνημόσυνον αυτής. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign.  The Pharisees then said to one another\, “You see that you can do nothing; look\, the world has gone after him.”\nNow among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks.  So these came to Philip\, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee\, and said to him\, “Sir\, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew went with Philip and they told Jesus.  And Jesus answered them\, “The hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified.  Truly\, truly\, I say to you\, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies\, it remains alone; but if it dies\, it bears much fruit.  He who loves his life loses it\, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.  If any one serves me\, he must follow me; and where I am\, there shall my servant be also; if any one serves me\, the Father will honor him.\n“Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father\, save me from this hour’? No\, for this purpose I have come to this hour.  Father\, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven\, “I have glorified it\, and I will glorify it again.” The crowd standing by heard it and said that it had thundered. Others said\, “An angel has spoken to him.” Jesus answered\, “This voice has come for your sake\, not for mine.  Now is the judgment of this world\, now shall the ruler of this world be cast out; and I\, when I am lifted up from the earth\, will draw all men to myself.”  He said this to show by what death he was to die.  The crowd answered him\, “We have heard from the law that the Christ remains for ever. How can you say that the Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?” Jesus said to them\, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light\, lest the darkness overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. While you have the light\, believe in the light\, that you may become sons of light.”\nWhen Jesus had said this\, he departed and hid himself from them. Though he had done so many signs before them\, yet they did not believe in him;  it was that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Lord\, who has believed our report\, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” Therefore they could not believe. For Isaiah again said\,  “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart\, lest they should see with their eyes and perceive with their heart\, and turn for me to heal them.”  Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke of him.  Nevertheless many even of the authorities believed in him\, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it\, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.\nAnd Jesus cried out and said\, “He who believes in me\, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And he who sees me sees him who sent me.  I have come as light into the world\, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If any one hears my sayings and does not keep them\, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.  He who rejects me and does not receive my sayings has a judge; the word that I have spoken will be his judge on the last day.  For I have not spoken on my own authority; the Father who sent me has himself given me commandment what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say\, therefore\, I say as the Father has bidden me.”\nGospel Reading: Matthew 26:6-16\nWhen Jesus was at Bethany at the house of Simon the leper\, a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment and she poured it on his head\, as he sat at table. But when the disciples saw it\, they were indignant\, saying\, “Why this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for a large sum\, and given to the poor.” But Jesus\, aware of this\, said to them\, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. For you always have the poor with you\, but you will not always have me. In pouring this ointment on my body she has done it to prepare me for burial. Truly\, I say to you wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world\, what she has done will be told in memory of her.” Then one of the twelve\, who was called Judas Iscariot\, went to the chief priests and said\, “What will you give me if I deliver him to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.
