There they made him a supper; Martha served\, and Lazaros was one of those at table with him. Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. But Judas Iscariot\, one of his disciples (he who was to betray him)\, said “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” This he said\, not that he cared for the poor but because he was a thief\, and as he had the money box he used to take what was put into it. Jesus said\, “Let her alone\, let her keep it for the day of my burial. The poor you always have with you\, but you do not always have me.”\n When the great crowd of the Jews learned that he was there\, they came\, not only on account of Jesus but also to see Lazaros\, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests planned to put Lazaros also to death\, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.\n The next day a great crowd who had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him\, crying\, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord\, even the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it; as it is written\, “Fear not\, daughter of Zion; behold\, your king is coming\, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” His disciples did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified\, then they remembered that this had been written of him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazaros out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. Ιησούς Χριστός χθές και σήμερον ο αυτός\, και εις τους αιώνας.\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου: Κατά Ιωάννην 11:1-45\nΤω καιρώ εκείνω\, ήν δέ τις ασθενών Λάζαρος από Βηθανίας\, εκ της κώμης Μαρίας και Μάρθας της αδελφής αυτής. ήν δε Μαρία η αλείψασα τον Κύριον μύρω και εκμάξασα τους πόδας αυτού ταις θριξίν αυτής\, ής ο αδελφός Λάζαρος ησθένει. απέστειλαν ούν αι αδελφαί πρός αυτόν λέγουσαι· Κύριε\, ίδε όν φιλείς ασθενεί. ακούσας δε ο ᾿Ιησούς είπεν· αύτη η ασθένεια ουκ έστι πρός θάνατον\, αλλ᾽ υπέρ της δόξης του Θεού\, ίνα δοξασθή ο υιός του Θεού δι᾽ αυτής. ηγάπα δε ο ᾿Ιησούς την Μάρθαν και την αδελφήν αυτής και τον Λάζαρον. ως ούν ήκουσεν ότι ασθενεί\, τότε μέν έμεινεν εν ώ ήν τόπω δύο ημέρας· έπειτα μετά τούτο λέγει τοις μαθηταίς· άγωμεν εις την ᾿Ιουδαίαν πάλιν. λέγουσιν αυτώ οι μαθηταί· ραββί\, νύν εζήτουν σε λιθάσαι οι ᾿Ιουδαίοι\, και πάλιν υπάγεις εκεί; απεκρίθη ᾿Ιησούς· ουχί δώδεκά εισιν ώραι της ημέρας; εάν τις περιπατή εν τη ημέρα\, ου προσκόπτει\, ότι το φώς του κόσμου τούτου βλέπει· εάν δέ τις περιπατή εν τη νυκτί\, προσκόπτει\, ότι το φώς ουκ έστιν εν αυτώ. ταύτα είπε\, και μετά τούτο λέγει αυτοίς· Λάζαρος ο φίλος ημών κεκοίμηται· αλλά πορεύομαι ίνα εξυπνίσω αυτόν. είπον ούν οι μαθηταί αυτού· Κύριε\, ει κεκοίμηται\, σωθήσεται. ειρήκει δε ο ᾿Ιησούς περί του θανάτου αυτού· εκείνοι δε έδοξαν ότι περί της κοιμήσεως του ύπνου λέγει. τότε ούν είπεν αυτοίς ο ᾿Ιησούς παρρησία· Λάζαρος απέθανε\, καί χαίρω δι᾽ υμάς\, ίνα πιστεύσητε\, ότι ουκ ήμην εκεί· αλλ᾽ άγωμεν πρός αυτόν. είπεν ούν Θωμάς ο λεγόμενος Δίδυμος τοις συμμαθηταίς· άγωμεν και ημείς ίνα αποθάνωμεν μετ᾽ αυτού.\n᾿Ελθών ούν ο ᾿Ιησούς εύρεν αυτόν τέσσαρας ημέρας ήδη έχοντα εν τω μνημείω. ήν δε η Βηθανία εγγύς των ῾Ιεροσολύμων ως από σταδίων δεκαπέντε\, καί πολλοί εκ των ᾿Ιουδαίων εληλύθεισαν πρός τάς περί Μάρθαν και Μαρίαν ίνα παραμυθήσωνται αυτάς περί του αδελφού αυτών. η ούν Μάρθα ως ήκουσεν ότι ο ᾿Ιησούς έρχεται\, υπήντησεν αυτώ· Μαρία δε εν τω οίκω εκαθέζετο. είπεν ούν η Μάρθα πρός τον ᾿Ιησούν· Κύριε\, ει ής ώδε\, ο αδελφός μου ουκ άν ετεθνήκει. αλλά και νύν οίδα ότι όσα άν αιτήση τον Θεόν\, δώσει σοι ο Θεός. λέγει αυτή ο ᾿Ιησούς· αναστήσεται ο αδελφός σου. λέγει αυτώ Μάρθα· οίδα ότι αναστήσεται εν τη αναστάσει εν τη εσχάτη ημέρα. είπεν αυτή ο ᾿Ιησούς· εγώ ειμι η ανάστασις και η ζωή. ο πιστεύων εις εμέ\, κάν αποθάνη\, ζήσεται· και πάς ο ζών και πιστεύων εις εμέ ου μή αποθάνη εις τον αιώνα. πιστεύεις τούτο; λέγει αυτώ· ναί\, Κύριε\, εγώ πεπίστευκα ότι σύ ει ο Χριστός ο υιός του Θεού ο εις τον κόσμον ερχόμενος. καί ταύτα ειπούσα απήλθε και εφώνησε Μαρίαν την αδελφήν αυτής λάθρα ειπούσα· ο διδάσκαλος πάρεστι και φωνεί σε. εκείνη ως ήκουσεν\, εγείρεται ταχύ και έρχεται πρός αυτόν. ούπω δε εληλύθει ο ᾿Ιησούς εις την κώμην\, αλλ᾽ ήν εν τω τόπω όπου υπήντησεν αυτώ η Μάρθα. οι ούν ᾿Ιουδαίοι οι όντες μετ᾽ αυτής εν τη οικία και παραμυθούμενοι αυτήν\, ιδόντες την Μαρίαν ότι ταχέως ανέστη και εξήλθεν\, ηκολούθησαν αυτή\, λέγοντες ότι υπάγει εις το μνημείον ίνα κλαύση εκεί. η ούν Μαρία ως ήλθεν όπου ήν ο ᾿Ιησούς\, ιδούσα αυτόν έπεσεν αυτού εις τους πόδας λέγουσα αυτώ· Κύριε\, ει ής ώδε\, ουκ άν απέθανέ μου ο αδελφός. ᾿Ιησούς ούν ως είδεν αυτήν κλαίουσαν και τους συνελθόντας αυτή ᾿Ιουδαίους κλαίοντας\, ενεβριμήσατο τω πνεύματι και ετάραξεν εαυτόν\, καί είπε· πού τεθείκατε αυτόν; λέγουσιν αυτώ· Κύριε\, έρχου και ίδε. εδάκρυσεν ο ᾿Ιησούς. έλεγον ούν οι ᾿Ιουδαίοι· ίδε πώς εφίλει αυτόν· τινές δε εξ αυτών είπον· ουκ ηδύνατο ούτος\, ο ανοίξας τους οφθαλμούς του τυφλού\, ποιήσαι ίνα και ούτος μή αποθάνη; ᾿Ιησούς ούν\, πάλιν εμβριμώμενος εν εαυτώ\, έρχεται εις το μνημείον· ήν δε σπήλαιον\, και λίθος επέκειτο επ᾽ αυτώ. λέγει ο ᾿Ιησούς· άρατε τον λίθον. λέγει αυτώ η αδελφή του τεθνηκότος Μάρθα· Κύριε\, ήδη όζει· τεταρταίος γάρ εστι. λέγει αυτή ο ᾿Ιησούς· ουκ είπόν σοι ότι εάν πιστεύσης\, όψει την δόξαν του Θεού; ήραν ούν τον λίθον ού ήν ο τεθνηκώς κείμενος. ο δε ᾿Ιησούς ήρε τους οφθαλμούς άνω και είπε· πάτερ\, ευχαριστώ σοι ότι ήκουσάς μου. εγώ δε ᾔδειν ότι πάντοτέ μου ακούεις· αλλά διά τον όχλον τον περιεστώτα είπον\, ίνα πιστεύσωσιν ότι σύ με απέστειλας. καί ταύτα ειπών φωνή μεγάλη εκραύγασε· Λάζαρε\, δεύρο έξω. καί εξήλθεν ο τεθνηκώς δεδεμένος τους πόδας και τάς χείρας κειρίαις\, και η όψις αυτού σουδαρίω περιεδέδετο. λέγει αυτοίς ο ᾿Ιησούς· λύσατε αυτόν και άφετε υπάγειν. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever.\nGospel Reading: John 11:1-45\nAt that time\, a certain man was ill\, Lazaros of Bethany\, from the village of Mary and her sister Martha. It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair\, whose brother Lazaros was ill. So the sisters sent to him\, saying\, “Lord\, he whom you love is ill.” But when Jesus heard it he said\, “This illness is not unto death; it is for the glory of God\, so that the Son of God may be glorified by means of it.”\n Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazaros. So when he heard that he was ill\, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was. Then after this he said to the disciples\, “Let us go into Judea again.” The disciples said to him\, “Rabbi\, the Jews were but now seeking to stone you\, and are you going there again?” Jesus answered\, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any one walks in the day\, he does not stumble\, because he sees the light of this world. But if any one walks in the night\, he stumbles\, because the light is not in him.” Thus he spoke\, and then he said to them\, “Our friend Lazaros has fallen asleep\, but I go to awake him out of sleep.” The disciples said to him\, “Lord\, if he has fallen asleep\, he will recover.” Now Jesus had spoken of his death\, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep. Bethany was near Jerusalem\, about two miles off\, and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming\, she went and met him\, while Mary sat in the house. Martha said to Jesus\, “Lord\, if you had been here\, my brother would not have died. And even now I know that whatever you ask from God\, God will give you.” Jesus said to her\, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him\, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said to her\, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me\, though he die\, yet shall he live\, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him\, “Yes\, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ\, the Son of God\, he who is coming into the world.”\n When she had said this\, she went and called her sister Mary\, saying quietly\, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” And when she heard it\, she rose quickly and went to him. Now Jesus had not yet come to the village\, but was still in the place where Martha had met him. ισχυρώς την οσφύν αυτής ήρεισεν τους βραχίονας αυτής εις έργον. εγεύσατο ότι καλόν εστιν το εργάζεσθαι και ουκ αποσβέννυται όλην την νύκτα ο λύχνος αυτής. τους πήχεις αυτής εκτείνει επί τα συμφέροντα τάς δε χείρας αυτής ερείδει εις άτρακτον. χείρας δε αυτής διήνοιξεν πένητι καρπόν δε εξέτεινεν πτωχώ. ου φροντίζει των εν οίκω ο ανήρ αυτής όταν που χρονίζη πάντες γαρ οι παρ’ αυτής ενδιδύσκονται. και είπεν· ανάβλεψον τοις οφθαλμοίς σου\, και ιδέ τους τράγους και τους κριούς αναβαίνοντας επί τα πρόβατα και τάς αίγας διαλεύκους και ποικίλους και σποδοειδείς ραντούς· εώρακα γάρ όσα σοι Λάβαν ποιεί· εγώ ειμι ο Θεός ο οφθείς σοι εν τόπω Θεού\, ού ήλειψάς μοι εκεί στήλην και ηύξω μοι εκεί ευχήν· νύν ούν ανάστηθι και έξελθε εκ της γής ταύτης και άπελθε εις την γήν της γενέσεώς σου\, και έσομαι μετά σού. και αποκριθείσαι Ραχήλ και Λεία είπαν αυτώ· μή εστιν ημίν έτι μερίς ή κληρονομία εν τω οίκω του πατρός ημών; Και εγένετο μετά το παύσασθαι ᾿Ισαάκ ευλογούντα ᾿Ιακώβ τον υιόν αυτού και εγένετο\, ως εξήλθεν ᾿Ιακώβ από προσώπου ᾿Ισαάκ του πατρός αυτού\, και ῾Ησαύ ο αδελφός αυτού ήλθεν από της θήρας. και εποίησε και αυτός εδέσματα και προσήνεγκε τω πατρί αυτού. και είπε τω πατρί· αναστήτω ο πατήρ μου και φαγέτω από της θήρας του υιού αυτού\, όπως ευλογήση με η ψυχή σου. και είπεν αυτώ ᾿Ισαάκ ο πατήρ αυτού· τίς ει σύ; ο δε είπεν· εγώ ειμι ο υιός σου ο πρωτότοκος ῾Ησαύ. εξέστη δε ᾿Ισαάκ έκστασιν μεγάλην σφόδρα και είπε· τίς ούν ο θηρεύσας μοι θήραν και εισενέγκας μοι; και έφαγον από πάντων πρό του ελθείν σε και ευλόγησα αυτόν\, και ευλογημένος έσται. εγένετο δέ\, ηνίκα ήκουσεν ῾Ησαύ τα ρήματα του πατρός αυτού ᾿Ισαάκ\, ανεβόησε φωνήν μεγάλην και πικράν σφόδρα και είπεν· ευλόγησον δή καμέ\, πάτερ. είπε δε αυτώ· ελθών ο αδελφός σου μετά δόλου έλαβε την ευλογίαν σου. και είπε· δικαίως εκλήθη το όνομα αυτού ᾿Ιακώβ· επτέρνικε γάρ με ιδού δεύτερον τούτο· τά τε πρωτοτόκιά μου είληφε και νύν έλαβε την ευλογίαν μου· και είπεν ῾Ησαύ τω πατρί αυτού· ουχ υπελίπου μοι ευλογίαν\, πάτερ; αποκριθείς δε ᾿Ισαάκ είπε τω ῾Ησαύ· ει κύριον αυτόν πεποίηκά σου και πάντας τους αδελφούς αυτού πεποίηκα αυτού οικέτας\, σίτω και οίνω εστήριξα αυτόν\, σοί δε τί ποιήσω\, τέκνον; είπε δε ῾Ησαύ πρός τον πατέρα αυτού· μή ευλογία μία σοί εστι\, πάτερ; ευλόγησον δή καμέ\, πάτερ. κατανυχθέντος δε ᾿Ισαάκ ανεβόησε φωνή ῾Ησαύ και έκλαυσεν. αποκριθείς δε ᾿Ισαάκ ο πατήρ αυτού είπεν αυτώ· ιδού από της πιότητος της γής έσται η κατοίκησίς σου και από της δρόσου του ουρανού άνωθεν. και επί τη μαχαίρα σου ζήση και τω αδελφώ σου δουλεύσεις· έσται δε ηνίκα εάν καθέλης\, και εκλύσης τον ζυγόν αυτού από του τραχήλου σου.
