DESCRIPTION:Άγιοι\, εορταί\, και Αναγνώσεις – Κυριακή\, 13 Απριλίου 2025\nΆγιοι και εορταί: Κυριακή των Βαῒων; Μαρτίνου\, Πάπα Ρώμης\, του Ομολογητού; Θεοδόσιος ο Μάρτυρας; Ζωΐλος ο Μάρτυρας\nΗμέρα Νηστείας (Κατάλυσις ιχθύος\, ελαίου και οίνου)\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου Όρθρου: Κατά Ματθαίον 21:1-11\, 15-17\nΤω καιρώ εκείνω\, ότε ήγγισαν εις ῾Ιεροσόλυμα και ήλθον εις Βηθσφαγή πρός το όρος των ελαιών\, τότε ο ᾿Ιησούς απέστειλε δύο μαθητάςλέγων αυτοίς· πορεύθητε εις την κώμην την απέναντι υμών\, και ευθέως ευρήσετε όνον δεδεμένην και πώλον μετ᾿ αυτής· λύσαντες αγάγετέ μοι. και εάν τις υμίν είπη τι\, ερείτε ότι ο Κύριος αυτών χρείαν έχει· ευθέως δε αποστέλλει αυτούς. τούτο δε όλον γέγονεν ίνα πληρωθή το ρηθέν διά του προφήτου λέγοντος· είπατε τη θυγατρί Σιών\, ιδού ο βασιλεύς σου έρχεταί σοιπραῢς και επιβεβηκώς επί όνονκαί πώλον υιόν υποζυγίου. πορευθέντες δε οι μαθηταί και ποιήσαντες καθώς προσέταξεν αυτοίς ο ᾿Ιησούς\, ήγαγον την όνον και τον πώλον\, και επέθηκαν επάνω αυτών τα ιμάτια αυτών\, και επεκάθισεν επάνω αυτών. ο δε πλείστος όχλος έστρωσαν εαυτών τα ιμάτια εν τη οδώ\, άλλοι δε έκοπτον κλάδους από των δένδρων και εστρώννυον εν τη οδώ. οι δε όχλοι οι προάγοντες και οι ακολουθούντες έκραζον λέγοντες· ωσαννά τω υιώ Δαυΐδ· ευλογημένος ο ερχόμενος εν ονόματι Κυρίου· ωσαννά εν τοις υψίστοις. και εισελθόντος αυτού εις ῾Ιεροσόλυμα εσείσθη πάσα η πόλις λέγουσα· τίς εστιν ούτος; οι δε όχλοι έλεγον· ούτός έστιν ᾿Ιησούς ο προφήτης ο από Ναζαρέτ της Γαλιλαίας. ιδόντες δε οι αρχιερείς και οι γραμματείς τα θαυμάσια ά εποίησε και τους παίδας κράζοντας εν τω ιερώ και λέγοντας\, ωσαννά τω υιώ Δαυΐδ\, ηγανάκτησανκαί είπον αυτώ· ακούεις τί ούτοι λέγουσιν; ο δε ᾿Ιησούς λέγει αυτοίς· ναί· ουδέποτε ανέγνωτε ότι εκ στόματος νηπίων και θηλαζόντων κατηρτίσω αίνον; και καταλιπών αυτούς εξήλθεν έξω της πόλεως εις Βηθανίαν και ηυλίσθη εκεί.\nΑνάγνωσις Επιστολής: Φιλιπ. 4:4-9\nΑδελφοί\, χαίρετε εν κυρίω πάντοτε· πάλιν ερώ\, χαίρετε. Το επιεικές υμών γνωσθήτω πάσιν ανθρώποις. Ο κύριος εγγύς. Μηδέν μεριμνάτε\, αλλʼ εν παντί τη προσευχή και τη δεήσει μετά ευχαριστίας τα αιτήματα υμών γνωριζέσθω πρός τον θεόν. Και η ειρήνη του θεού η υπερέχουσα πάντα νούν\, φρουρήσει τάς καρδίας υμών και τα νοήματα υμών εν Χριστώ Ιησού. Το λοιπόν\, αδελφοί\, όσα εστίν αληθή\, όσα σεμνά\, όσα δίκαια\, όσα αγνά\, όσα προσφιλή\, όσα εύφημα\, ει τις αρετή και ει τις έπαινος\, ταύτα λογίζεσθε. Ά και εμάθετε και παρελάβετε και ηκούσατε και είδετε εν εμοί\, ταύτα πράσσετε· και ο θεός της ειρήνης έσται μεθʼ υμών.\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου: Κατά Ιωάννην 12:1-18\nΠρό έξ ημερών του πάσχα ήλθεν Ο ᾿Ιησούς εις Βηθανίαν\, όπου ήν Λάζαρος ο τεθνηκώς\, όν ήγειρεν εκ νεκρών. εποίησαν ούν αυτώ δείπνον εκεί\, και η Μάρθα διηκόνει· ο δε Λάζαρος εις ήν των ανακειμένων σύν αυτώ. η ούν Μαρία\, λαβούσα λίτραν μύρου νάρδου πιστικής πολυτίμου\, ήλειψε τους πόδας του ᾿Ιησού και εξέμαξε ταις θριξίν αυτής τους πόδας αυτού· η δε οικία επληρώθη εκ της οσμής του μύρου. λέγει ούν εις εκ των μαθητών αυτού\, ᾿Ιούδας Σίμωνος ᾿Ισκαριώτης\, ο μέλλων αυτόν παραδιδόναι· διατί τούτο το μύρον ουκ επράθη τριακοσίων δηναρίων και εδόθη πτωχοίς; είπε δε τούτο ουχ ότι περί των πτωχών έμελεν αυτώ\, αλλ᾽ ότι κλέπτης ήν\, και το γλωσσόκομον είχε και τα βαλλόμενα εβάσταζεν. είπεν ούν ο ᾿Ιησούς· άφες αυτήν\, εις την ημέραν του ενταφιασμού μου τετήρηκεν αυτό. τούς πτωχούς γαρ πάντοτε έχετε μεθ᾽ εαυτών\, εμέ δε ου πάντοτε έχετε.\n῎Εγνω ούν όχλος πολύς εκ των ᾿Ιουδαίων ότι εκεί εστι\, και ήλθον ου διά τον ᾿Ιησούν μόνον\, αλλ᾽ ίνα και τον Λάζαρον ίδωσιν όν ήγειρεν εκ νεκρών. εβουλεύσαντο δε οι αρχιερείς ίνα και τον Λάζαρον αποκτείνωσιν\, ότι πολλοί δι᾽ αυτόν υπήγον των ᾿Ιουδαίων και επίστευον εις τον ᾿Ιησούν.\nΤη επαύριον όχλος πολύς ο ελθών εις την εορτήν\, ακούσαντες ότι έρχεται ᾿Ιησούς εις ῾Ιεροσόλυμα\, έλαβον τα βαΐα των φοινίκων και εξήλθον εις υπάντησιν αυτώ\, και έκραζον· ωσαννά\, ευλογημένος ο ερχόμενος εν ονόματι Κυρίου\, ο βασιλεύς του ᾿Ισραήλ. ευρών δε ο ᾿Ιησούς ονάριον εκάθισεν επ᾽ αυτό\, καθώς εστι γεγραμμένον· μή φοβού\, θύγατερ Σιών· ιδού ο βασιλεύς σου έρχεται καθήμενος επί πώλον όνου.\nΤαύτα δε ουκ έγνωσαν οι μαθηταί αυτού το πρώτον\, αλλ᾽ ότε εδοξάσθη ο ᾿Ιησούς\, τότε εμνήσθησαν ότι ταύτα ήν επ᾽ αυτώ γεγραμμένα\, και ταύτα εποίησαν αυτώ. ᾿Εμαρτύρει ούν ο όχλος ο ών μετ᾽ αυτού ότε τον Λάζαρον εφώνησεν εκ του μνημείου και ήγειρεν αυτόν εκ νεκρών. διά τούτο και υπήντησεν αυτώ ο όχλος\, ότι ήκουσαν τούτο αυτόν πεποιηκέναι το σημείον.

If any one says anything to you\, you shall say\, ‘The Lord has need of them\,’ and he will send them immediately.” This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet\, saying\,\n“Tell the daughter of Zion\,\nBehold\, your king is coming to you\,\nhumble and mounted on a donkey\,\nand on a colt\, the foal of a donkey.”\nThe disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; they brought the donkey and the colt\, and put their garments on them\, and he sat thereon. Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road\, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds that went before him and that followed him shouted\, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” And when he entered Jerusalem\, all the city was stirred\, saying\, “Who is this?” And the crowds said\, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee.” But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did\, and the children crying out in the temple\, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant; and they said to him\, “Do you hear what they are saying?” And Jesus said to them\, “Yes; have you never read\,\n‘Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings\,\nyou have brought perfect praise’?”\nAnd leaving them\, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.\nEpistle Reading: Philippians 4:4-9\nBRETHREN\, rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say\, Rejoice. Let all men know your forbearance. The Lord is at hand. Have no anxiety about anything\, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God\, which passes all understanding\, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me\, do; and the God of peace will be with you.\nGospel Reading: John 12:1-18\nSix days before Passover\, Jesus came to Bethany\, where Lazaros was\, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. There they made him a supper; Martha served\, and Lazaros was one of those at table with him. Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. But Judas Iscariot\, one of his disciples (he who was to betray him)\, said “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” This he said\, not that he cared for the poor but because he was a thief\, and as he had the money box he used to take what was put into it. Jesus said\, “Let her alone\, let her keep it for the day of my burial. The poor you always have with you\, but you do not always have me.”\n When the great crowd of the Jews learned that he was there\, they came\, not only on account of Jesus but also to see Lazaros\, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests planned to put Lazaros also to death\, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.\n The next day a great crowd who had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him\, crying\, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord\, even the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it; as it is written\, “Fear not\, daughter of Zion; behold\, your king is coming\, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” His disciples did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified\, then they remembered that this had been written of him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazaros out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign.

Ιησούς Χριστός χθές και σήμερον ο αυτός\, και εις τους αιώνας.\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου: Κατά Ιωάννην 11:1-45\nΤω καιρώ εκείνω\, ήν δέ τις ασθενών Λάζαρος από Βηθανίας\, εκ της κώμης Μαρίας και Μάρθας της αδελφής αυτής. ήν δε Μαρία η αλείψασα τον Κύριον μύρω και εκμάξασα τους πόδας αυτού ταις θριξίν αυτής\, ής ο αδελφός Λάζαρος ησθένει. απέστειλαν ούν αι αδελφαί πρός αυτόν λέγουσαι· Κύριε\, ίδε όν φιλείς ασθενεί. ακούσας δε ο ᾿Ιησούς είπεν· αύτη η ασθένεια ουκ έστι πρός θάνατον\, αλλ᾽ υπέρ της δόξης του Θεού\, ίνα δοξασθή ο υιός του Θεού δι᾽ αυτής. ηγάπα δε ο ᾿Ιησούς την Μάρθαν και την αδελφήν αυτής και τον Λάζαρον. ως ούν ήκουσεν ότι ασθενεί\, τότε μέν έμεινεν εν ώ ήν τόπω δύο ημέρας· έπειτα μετά τούτο λέγει τοις μαθηταίς· άγωμεν εις την ᾿Ιουδαίαν πάλιν. λέγουσιν αυτώ οι μαθηταί· ραββί\, νύν εζήτουν σε λιθάσαι οι ᾿Ιουδαίοι\, και πάλιν υπάγεις εκεί; απεκρίθη ᾿Ιησούς· ουχί δώδεκά εισιν ώραι της ημέρας; εάν τις περιπατή εν τη ημέρα\, ου προσκόπτει\, ότι το φώς του κόσμου τούτου βλέπει· εάν δέ τις περιπατή εν τη νυκτί\, προσκόπτει\, ότι το φώς ουκ έστιν εν αυτώ. ταύτα είπε\, και μετά τούτο λέγει αυτοίς· Λάζαρος ο φίλος ημών κεκοίμηται· αλλά πορεύομαι ίνα εξυπνίσω αυτόν. είπον ούν οι μαθηταί αυτού· Κύριε\, ει κεκοίμηται\, σωθήσεται. ειρήκει δε ο ᾿Ιησούς περί του θανάτου αυτού· εκείνοι δε έδοξαν ότι περί της κοιμήσεως του ύπνου λέγει. τότε ούν είπεν αυτοίς ο ᾿Ιησούς παρρησία· Λάζαρος απέθανε\, καί χαίρω δι᾽ υμάς\, ίνα πιστεύσητε\, ότι ουκ ήμην εκεί· αλλ᾽ άγωμεν πρός αυτόν. είπεν ούν Θωμάς ο λεγόμενος Δίδυμος τοις συμμαθηταίς· άγωμεν και ημείς ίνα αποθάνωμεν μετ᾽ αυτού.\n᾿Ελθών ούν ο ᾿Ιησούς εύρεν αυτόν τέσσαρας ημέρας ήδη έχοντα εν τω μνημείω. ήν δε η Βηθανία εγγύς των ῾Ιεροσολύμων ως από σταδίων δεκαπέντε\, καί πολλοί εκ των ᾿Ιουδαίων εληλύθεισαν πρός τάς περί Μάρθαν και Μαρίαν ίνα παραμυθήσωνται αυτάς περί του αδελφού αυτών. η ούν Μάρθα ως ήκουσεν ότι ο ᾿Ιησούς έρχεται\, υπήντησεν αυτώ· Μαρία δε εν τω οίκω εκαθέζετο. είπεν ούν η Μάρθα πρός τον ᾿Ιησούν· Κύριε\, ει ής ώδε\, ο αδελφός μου ουκ άν ετεθνήκει. αλλά και νύν οίδα ότι όσα άν αιτήση τον Θεόν\, δώσει σοι ο Θεός. λέγει αυτή ο ᾿Ιησούς· αναστήσεται ο αδελφός σου. λέγει αυτώ Μάρθα· οίδα ότι αναστήσεται εν τη αναστάσει εν τη εσχάτη ημέρα. είπεν αυτή ο ᾿Ιησούς· εγώ ειμι η ανάστασις και η ζωή. ο πιστεύων εις εμέ\, κάν αποθάνη\, ζήσεται· και πάς ο ζών και πιστεύων εις εμέ ου μή αποθάνη εις τον αιώνα. πιστεύεις τούτο; λέγει αυτώ· ναί\, Κύριε\, εγώ πεπίστευκα ότι σύ ει ο Χριστός ο υιός του Θεού ο εις τον κόσμον ερχόμενος. καί ταύτα ειπούσα απήλθε και εφώνησε Μαρίαν την αδελφήν αυτής λάθρα ειπούσα· ο διδάσκαλος πάρεστι και φωνεί σε. εκείνη ως ήκουσεν\, εγείρεται ταχύ και έρχεται πρός αυτόν. ούπω δε εληλύθει ο ᾿Ιησούς εις την κώμην\, αλλ᾽ ήν εν τω τόπω όπου υπήντησεν αυτώ η Μάρθα. οι ούν ᾿Ιουδαίοι οι όντες μετ᾽ αυτής εν τη οικία και παραμυθούμενοι αυτήν\, ιδόντες την Μαρίαν ότι ταχέως ανέστη και εξήλθεν\, ηκολούθησαν αυτή\, λέγοντες ότι υπάγει εις το μνημείον ίνα κλαύση εκεί. η ούν Μαρία ως ήλθεν όπου ήν ο ᾿Ιησούς\, ιδούσα αυτόν έπεσεν αυτού εις τους πόδας λέγουσα αυτώ· Κύριε\, ει ής ώδε\, ουκ άν απέθανέ μου ο αδελφός. ᾿Ιησούς ούν ως είδεν αυτήν κλαίουσαν και τους συνελθόντας αυτή ᾿Ιουδαίους κλαίοντας\, ενεβριμήσατο τω πνεύματι και ετάραξεν εαυτόν\, καί είπε· πού τεθείκατε αυτόν; λέγουσιν αυτώ· Κύριε\, έρχου και ίδε. εδάκρυσεν ο ᾿Ιησούς. έλεγον ούν οι ᾿Ιουδαίοι· ίδε πώς εφίλει αυτόν· τινές δε εξ αυτών είπον· ουκ ηδύνατο ούτος\, ο ανοίξας τους οφθαλμούς του τυφλού\, ποιήσαι ίνα και ούτος μή αποθάνη; ᾿Ιησούς ούν\, πάλιν εμβριμώμενος εν εαυτώ\, έρχεται εις το μνημείον· ήν δε σπήλαιον\, και λίθος επέκειτο επ᾽ αυτώ. λέγει ο ᾿Ιησούς· άρατε τον λίθον. λέγει αυτώ η αδελφή του τεθνηκότος Μάρθα· Κύριε\, ήδη όζει· τεταρταίος γάρ εστι. λέγει αυτή ο ᾿Ιησούς· ουκ είπόν σοι ότι εάν πιστεύσης\, όψει την δόξαν του Θεού; ήραν ούν τον λίθον ού ήν ο τεθνηκώς κείμενος. ο δε ᾿Ιησούς ήρε τους οφθαλμούς άνω και είπε· πάτερ\, ευχαριστώ σοι ότι ήκουσάς μου. εγώ δε ᾔδειν ότι πάντοτέ μου ακούεις· αλλά διά τον όχλον τον περιεστώτα είπον\, ίνα πιστεύσωσιν ότι σύ με απέστειλας. καί ταύτα ειπών φωνή μεγάλη εκραύγασε· Λάζαρε\, δεύρο έξω. καί εξήλθεν ο τεθνηκώς δεδεμένος τους πόδας και τάς χείρας κειρίαις\, και η όψις αυτού σουδαρίω περιεδέδετο. λέγει αυτοίς ο ᾿Ιησούς· λύσατε αυτόν και άφετε υπάγειν. Πολλοί ούν εκ των ᾿Ιουδαίων\, οι ελθόντες πρός την Μαρίαν και θεασάμενοι ά εποίησεν ο ᾿Ιησούς\, επίστευσαν εις αυτόν.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever.\nGospel Reading: John 11:1-45\nAt that time\, a certain man was ill\, Lazaros of Bethany\, from the village of Mary and her sister Martha. It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair\, whose brother Lazaros was ill. So the sisters sent to him\, saying\, “Lord\, he whom you love is ill.” But when Jesus heard it he said\, “This illness is not unto death; it is for the glory of God\, so that the Son of God may be glorified by means of it.”\n Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazaros. So when he heard that he was ill\, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was. Then after this he said to the disciples\, “Let us go into Judea again.” The disciples said to him\, “Rabbi\, the Jews were but now seeking to stone you\, and are you going there again?” Jesus answered\, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any one walks in the day\, he does not stumble\, because he sees the light of this world. But if any one walks in the night\, he stumbles\, because the light is not in him.” Thus he spoke\, and then he said to them\, “Our friend Lazaros has fallen asleep\, but I go to awake him out of sleep.” The disciples said to him\, “Lord\, if he has fallen asleep\, he will recover.” Now Jesus had spoken of his death\, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep. Then Jesus told them plainly\, “Lazaros is dead; and for your sake I am glad that I was not there\, so that you may believe. Bethany was near Jerusalem\, about two miles off\, and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming\, she went and met him\, while Mary sat in the house. Martha said to Jesus\, “Lord\, if you had been here\, my brother would not have died. And even now I know that whatever you ask from God\, God will give you.” Jesus said to her\, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him\, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said to her\, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me\, though he die\, yet shall he live\, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him\, “Yes\, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ\, the Son of God\, he who is coming into the world.”\n When she had said this\, she went and called her sister Mary\, saying quietly\, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” And when she heard it\, she rose quickly and went to him. So the Jews said\, “See how he loved him!” But some of them said\, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?”\n Then Jesus\, deeply moved again\, came to the tomb; it was a cave\, and a stone lay upon it. Jesus said\, “Take away the stone.” Martha\, the sister of the dead man\, said to him\, “Lord\, by this time there will be an odor\, for he has been dead four days.” Jesus said to her\, “Did I not tell you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said\, “Father\, I thank you that you have heard me. Jesus said to them\, “Unbind him\, and let him go.” Many of the Jews therefore\, who had come with Mary and had seen what he did\, believed in him.

49:33-50:26\nΚαι κατέπαυσεν ᾿Ιακώβ επιτάσσων τοις υιοίς αυτού και εξάρας τους πόδας αυτού επί την κλίνην εξέλιπε και προσετέθη πρός τον λαόν αυτού.ΚΑΙ επιπεσών ᾿Ιωσήφ επί πρόσωπον του πατρός αυτού\, έκλαυσεν αυτόν και εφίλησεν αυτόν. και προσέταξεν ᾿Ιωσήφ τοις παισίν αυτού τοις ενταφιασταίς ενταφιάσαι τον πατέρα αυτού\, και ενεταφίασαν οι ενταφιασταί τον ᾿Ισραήλ. και επλήρωσαν αυτού τεσσαράκοντα εύρον χάριν εναντίον υμών λαλήσατε περί εμού εις τα ώτα Φαραώ λέγοντες· ο πατήρ μου ώρκισέ με λέγων· εν τω μνημείω ώ ώρυξα εμαυτώ εν γή Χαναάν\, εκεί με θάψεις· νύν ούν αναβάς θάψω τον πατέρα μου και επανελεύσομαι. και είπε Φαραώ τω ᾿Ιωσήφ· ανάβηθι\, θάψον τον πατέρα σου\, καθάπερ ώρκισέ σε. και ανέβη ᾿Ιωσήφ θάψαι τον πατέρα αυτού\, και συνανέβησαν μετ᾿ αυτού πάντες οι παίδες Φαραώ και οι πρεσβύτεροι του οίκου αυτού και πάντες οι πρεσβύτεροι της γής Αιγύπτου. και πάσα η πανοικία ᾿Ιωσήφ και οι αδελφοί αυτού και πάσα η οικία η πατρική αυτού\, και την συγγένειαν αυτού και τα πρόβατα και τους βόας υπελίποντο εν γή Γεσέμ. και συνανέβησαν μετ᾿ αυτού και άρματα και ιππείς\, και εγένετο η παρεμβολή μεγάλη σφόδρα. και παρεγένοντο εις άλωνα ᾿Ατάδ\, ό εστι πέραν του ᾿Ιορδάνου\, και εκόψαντο αυτόν κοπετόν μέγαν και ισχυρόν σφόδρα· και εποίησε το πένθος τω πατρί αυτού επτά ημέρας. και είδον οι κάτοικοι της γής Χαναάν το πένθος επί άλωνι ᾿Ατάδ και είπαν· πένθος μέγα τούτό εστι τοις Αιγυπτίοις· διά τούτο εκάλεσε το όνομα αυτού Πένθος Αιγύπτου\, ό εστι πέραν του ᾿Ιορδάνου. και εποίησαν αυτώ ούτως οι υιοί αυτού και ανέλαβον αυτόν οι υιοί αυτού εις γήν Χαναάν και έθαψαν αυτόν εις το σπήλαιον το διπλούν\, ό εκτήσατο ῾Αβραάμ το σπήλαιον εν κτήσει μνημείου παρά ᾿Εφρών του Χετταίου\, κατέναντι Μαμβρή. και υπέστρεψεν ᾿Ιωσήφ εις Αίγυπτον\, αυτός και οι αδελφοί αυτού και οι συναναβάντες θάψαι τον πατέρα αυτού. ᾿Ιδόντες δε οι αδελφοί ᾿Ιωσήφ ότι τέθνηκεν ο πατήρ αυτών\, είπαν· μή ποτε μνησικακήση ημίν ᾿Ιωσήφ και ανταπόδομα ανταποδώ ημίν πάντα τα κακά\, ά ενεδειξάμεθα εις αυτόν. και παραγενόμενοι πρός ᾿Ιωσήφ είπαν· ο πατήρ σου ώρκισε πρό του τελευτήσαι αυτόν λέγων· ούτως είπατε ᾿Ιωσήφ· άφες αυτοίς την αδικίαν καί την αμαρτίαν αυτών\, ότι πονηρά σοι ενεδείξαντο· και νύν δέξαι την αδικίαν των θεραπόντων του Θεού του πατρός σου. και έκλαυσεν ᾿Ιωσήφ λαλούντων αυτών πρός αυτόν. και ελθόντες πρός αυτόν είπαν· οίδε ημείς σοί ικέται. και είπεν αυτοίς ᾿Ιωσήφ· μή φοβείσθε\, του γαρ Θεού ειμι εγώ. υμείς εβουλεύσασθε κατ᾿ εμού εις πονηρά\, ο δε Θεός εβουλεύσατο περί εμού εις αγαθά\, όπως άν γενηθή ως σήμερον και τραφή λαός πολύς. και είπεν αυτοίς· μή φοβείσθε· εγώ διαθρέψω υμάς και τάς οικίας υμών. και παρεκάλεσεν αυτούς και ελάλησεν αυτών εις την καρδίαν.\n Και κατῴκησεν ᾿Ιωσήφ εν Αιγύπτω\, αυτός και οι αδελφοί αυτού και πάσα η πανοικία του πατρός αυτού. και έζησεν ᾿Ιωσήφ έτη εκατόν δέκα. και είδεν ᾿Ιωσήφ ᾿Εφραΐμ παιδία έως τρίτης γενεάς\, και οι υιοί Μαχείρ του υιού Μανασσή ετέχθησαν επί μηρών ᾿Ιωσήφ. και είπεν ᾿Ιωσήφ τοις αδελφοίς αυτού λέγων· εγώ αποθνήσκω· επισκοπή επισκοπή\, ή επισκέψηται ο Θεός υμάς\, και συνανοίσετε τα οστά μου εντεύθεν μεθ᾿ υμών. και ετελεύτησεν ᾿Ιωσήφ ετών εκατόν δέκα· και έθαψαν αυτόν και έθηκαν εν τη σορώ εν Αιγύπτω.\nΑνάγνωσις Παλαιᾱς Διαθήκης: Παροιμίαι 31:8-31\nάνοιγε σόν στόμα λόγω θεού και κρίνε πάντας υγιώς.  άνοιγε σόν στόμα και κρίνε δικαίως διάκρινε δε πένητα και ασθενή.  γυναίκα ανδρείαν τις ευρήσει τιμιωτέρα δε εστιν λίθων πολυτελών η τοιαύτη.  θαρσεί επ’ αυτή η καρδία του ανδρός αυτής η τοιαύτη καλών σκύλων ουκ απορήσει. ενεργεί γαρ τω ανδρί αγαθά πάντα τον βίον.  μηρυομένη έρια και λίνον εποίησεν εύχρηστον ταις χερσίν αυτής.  εγένετο ωσεί ναύς εμπορευομένη μακρόθεν συνάγει δε αύτη τον βίον.  και ανίσταται εκ νυκτών και έδωκεν βρώματα τω οίκω και έργα ταις θεραπαίναις.  θεωρήσασα γεώργιον επρίατο από δε καρπών χειρών αυτής κατεφύτευσεν κτήμα.  αναζωσαμένη ισχυρώς την οσφύν αυτής ήρεισεν τους βραχίονας αυτής εις έργον.  εγεύσατο ότι καλόν εστιν το εργάζεσθαι και ουκ αποσβέννυται όλην την νύκτα ο λύχνος αυτής.  τους πήχεις αυτής εκτείνει επί τα συμφέροντα τάς δε χείρας αυτής ερείδει εις άτρακτον.  χείρας δε αυτής διήνοιξεν πένητι καρπόν δε εξέτεινεν πτωχώ.  ου φροντίζει των εν οίκω ο ανήρ αυτής όταν που χρονίζη πάντες γαρ οι παρ’ αυτής ενδιδύσκονται.  δισσάς χλαίνας εποίησεν τω ανδρί αυτής εκ δε βύσσου και πορφύρας εαυτή ενδύματα.  περίβλεπτος δε γίνεται εν πύλαις ο ανήρ αυτής ηνίκα άν καθίση εν συνεδρίω μετά των γερόντων κατοίκων της γής.  σινδόνας εποίησεν και απέδοτο περιζώματα δε τοις χαναναίοις.  στόμα αυτής διήνοιξεν προσεχόντως και εννόμως και τάξιν εστείλατο τη γλώσση αυτής.  ισχύν και ευπρέπειαν ενεδύσατο και ευφράνθη εν ημέραις εσχάταις.  στεγναί διατριβαί οίκων αυτής σίτα δε οκνηρά ουκ έφαγεν.  το στόμα δε ανοίγει σοφώς και νομοθέσμως η δε ελεημοσύνη αυτής ανέστησεν τα τέκνα αυτής και επλούτησαν και ο ανήρ αυτής ᾔνεσεν αυτήν.  πολλαί θυγατέρες εκτήσαντο πλούτον πολλαί εποίησαν δυνατά σύ δε υπέρκεισαι και υπερήρας πάσας.  ψευδείς αρέσκειαι και μάταιον κάλλος γυναικός γυνή γαρ συνετή ευλογείται φόβον δε κυρίου αύτη αινείτω.  δότε αυτή από καρπών χειρών αυτής και αινείσθω εν πύλαις ο ανήρ αυτής .

The desire of the sluggard kills him for his hands refuse to labor.  All day long the wicked covets\, but the righteous gives and does not hold back.  The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more when he brings it with evil intent.  A false witness will perish\, but the word of a man who hears will endure.  A wicked man puts on a bold face\, but an upright man considers his ways.  No wisdom\, no understanding\, no counsel\, can avail against the LORD.  The horse is made ready for the day of battle\, but the victory belongs to the LORD.  A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches\, and favor is better than silver or gold.  The rich and the poor meet together; the LORD is the maker of them all.  A prudent man sees danger and hides himself; but the simple go on\, and suffer for it.  The reward for humility and fear of the LORD is riches and honor and life.

DESCRIPTION:Άγιοι\, εορταί\, και Αναγνώσεις – Τρίτη\, 8 Απριλίου 2025\nΆγιοι και εορταί: Αποστόλων εκ των Ο΄ Ηρωδίωνος\, Αγάβου\, Ρούφου\, Ασυγκρίτου\, Φλέγοντος και Ερμού; Νεομάρτυρος Ιωάννης ο ναυκλήρος εν Κώ μαρτυρήσαντος; Ρούφος; Κελεστίνος Πάπας Ρώμης\nΑυστηρή Νηστεία\nΑνάγνωσις Παλαιᾱς Διαθήκης: Ησαΐας 49:6-10\nΚαι είπέ μοι· μέγα σοί εστι του κληθήναί σε παίδά μου του στήσαι τάς φυλάς ᾿Ιακώβ και την διασποράν του ᾿Ισραήλ επιστρέψαι· ιδού δέδωκά σε εις διαθήκην γένους\, εις φώς εθνών του είναί σε εις σωτηρίαν έως εσχάτου της γής. – Ούτως λέγει Κύριος ο ρυσάμενός σε\, ο Θεός ᾿Ισραήλ· αγιάσατε τον φαυλίζοντα την ψυχήν αυτού\, τον βδελυσσόμενον υπό των εθνών των δούλων των αρχόντων· βασιλείς όψονται αυτόν και αναστήσονται\, άρχοντες και προσκυνήσουσιν αυτώ ένεκεν Κυρίου· ότι πιστός εστιν ο άγιος ᾿Ισραήλ\, και εξελεξάμην σε. ούτως λέγει Κύριος· καιρώ δεκτώ επήκουσά σου και εν ημέρα σωτηρίας εβοήθησά σοι και έπλασά σε και έδωκά σε εις διαθήκην εθνών του καταστήσαι την γήν και κληρονομήσαι κληρονομίας ερήμους\, λέγοντα τοις εν δεσμοίς· εξέλθετε\, και τοις εν τω σκότει· ανακαλυφθήναι. εν πάσαις ταις οδοίς βοσκηθήσονται\, και εν πάσαις ταις τρίβοις η νομή αυτών· ου πεινάσουσιν ουδέ διψήσουσιν\, ουδέ πατάξει αυτούς καύσων\, ουδέ ο ήλιος\, αλλ᾿ ο ελεών αυτούς παρακαλέσει και διά πηγών υδάτων άξει αυτούς·\nΑνάγνωσις Παλαιᾱς Διαθήκης: Γένεσις 31:3-16\nEίπε δε Κύριος πρός ᾿Ιακώβ· αποστρέφου εις την γήν του πατρός σου και εις την γενεάν σου\, και έσομαι μετά σού. αποστείλας δε ᾿Ιακώβ εκάλεσε Λείαν και Ραχήλ εις το πεδίον\, ού ήν τα ποίμνια. και είπεν αυταίς· ορώ εγώ το πρόσωπον του πατρός υμών\, ότι ουκ έστι πρός εμού ως εχθές και τρίτην ημέραν· ο δε Θεός του πατρός μου ήν μετ᾿ εμού. και αυταί δε οίδατε\, ότι εν πάση τη ισχύϊ μου δεδούλευκα τω πατρί υμών. ο δε πατήρ υμών παρεκρούσατό με και ήλλαξε τον μισθόν μου των δέκα αμνών\, και ουκ έδωκεν αυτώ ο Θεός κακοποιήσαί με. εάν ούτως είπη\, τα ποικίλα έσται σου μισθός\, και τέξεται πάντα τα πρόβατα ποικίλα· εάν δε είπη\, τα λευκά έσται σου μισθός\, και τέξεται πάντα τα πρόβατα λευκά· και αφείλετο ο Θεός πάντα τα κτήνη του πατρός υμών και έδωκέ μοι αυτά. και εγένετο ηνίκα ενεκίσσων τα πρόβατα εν γαστρί λαμβάνοντα\, και είδον τοις οφθαλμοίς μου εν τω ύπνω\, και ιδού οι τράγοι και οι κριοί αναβαίνοντες επί τα πρόβατα και τάς αίγας διάλευκοι και ποικίλοι και σποδοειδείς ραντοί. και είπέ μοι ο άγγελος του Θεού καθ᾿ ύπνον· ᾿Ιακώβ· εγώ δε είπα· τί εστι; και είπεν· ανάβλεψον τοις οφθαλμοίς σου\, και ιδέ τους τράγους και τους κριούς αναβαίνοντας επί τα πρόβατα και τάς αίγας διαλεύκους και ποικίλους και σποδοειδείς ραντούς· εώρακα γάρ όσα σοι Λάβαν ποιεί· εγώ ειμι ο Θεός ο οφθείς σοι εν τόπω Θεού\, ού ήλειψάς μοι εκεί στήλην και ηύξω μοι εκεί ευχήν· νύν ούν ανάστηθι και έξελθε εκ της γής ταύτης και άπελθε εις την γήν της γενέσεώς σου\, και έσομαι μετά σού. και αποκριθείσαι Ραχήλ και Λεία είπαν αυτώ· μή εστιν ημίν έτι μερίς ή κληρονομία εν τω οίκω του πατρός ημών; ουχ ως αι αλλότριαι λελογίσμεθα αυτώ; πέπρακε γαρ ημάς και καταβρώσει κατέφαγε το αργύριον ημών. πάντα τον πλούτον και την δόξαν\, ήν αφείλετο ο Θεός του πατρός ημών\, ημίν έσται και τοις τέκνοις ημών. νύν ούν όσα σοι είρηκεν ο Θεός\, ποίει.\nΑνάγνωσις Παλαιᾱς Διαθήκης: Παροιμίαι 21:3-21\nΠοιείν δίκαια και αληθεύειν αρεστά παρά Θεώ μάλλον ή θυσιών αίμα.  μεγαλόφρων εν ύβρει θρασυκάρδιος\, λαμπτήρ δε ασεβών αμαρτία. ο ενεργών θησαυρίσματα γλώσση ψευδεί μάταια διώκει και έρχεται επί παγίδας θανάτου. όλεθρος ασεβέσιν επιξενωθήσεται\, ου γαρ βούλονται πράσσειν τα δίκαια. πρός τους σκολιούς σκολιάς οδούς αποστέλλει ο Θεός\, αγνά γαρ και ορθά τα έργα αυτού. κρείσσον οικείν επί γωνίας υπαίθρου ή εν κεκονιαμένοις μετά αδικίας και εν οίκω κοινώ. ψυχή ασεβούς ουκ ελεηθήσεται υπ᾿ ουδενός των ανθρώπων. ζημιουμένου ακολάστου πανουργότερος γίνεται ο άκακος\, συνίων δε σοφός δέξεται γνώσιν. συνίει δίκαιος καρδίας ασεβών και φαυλίζει ασεβείς εν κακοίς. ός φράσσει τα ώτα αυτού του μή επακούσαι ασθενούς\, και αυτός επικαλέσεται\, και ουκ έσται ο εισακούων. δόσις λάθριος ανατρέπει οργάς\, δώρων δε ο φειδόμενος θυμόν εγείρει ισχυρόν. ευφροσύνη δικαίων ποιείν κρίμα\, όσιος δε ακάθαρτος παρά κακούργοις. ανήρ πλανώμενος εξ οδού δικαιοσύνης εν συναγωγή γιγάντων αναπαύσεται. ανήρ ενδεής αγαπά ευφροσύνην\, φιλών οίνον και έλαιον εις πλούτον· περικάθαρμα δε δικαίου άνομος. κρείσσον οικείν εν γή ερήμω ή μετά γυναικός μαχίμου και γλωσσώδους και οργίλου. θησαυρός επιθυμητός αναπαύσεται επί στόματος σοφού\, άφρονες δε άνδρες καταπίονται αυτόν. οδός δικαιοσύνης και ελεημοσύνης ευρήσει ζωήν και δόξαν.

Haughty eyes and a proud heart\, the lamp of the wicked\, are sin.  The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance\, but every one who is hasty comes only to want.  The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a snare of death.  The violence of the wicked will sweep them away\, because they refuse to do what is just.  The way of the guilty is crooked\, but the conduct of the pure is right.  It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a contentious woman.  The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes.  When a scoffer is punished\, the simple becomes wise; when a wise man is instructed\, he gains knowledge.  The righteous observes the house of the wicked; the wicked are cast down to ruin.  He who closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself cry out and not be heard.  A gift in secret averts anger; and a bribe in the bosom\, strong wrath.  When justice is done\, it is a joy to the righteous\, but dismay to evildoers.  A man who wanders from the way of understanding will rest in the assembly of the dead.  He who loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich.  The wicked is a ransom for the righteous\, and the faithless for the upright.  It is better to live in a desert land than with a contentious and fretful woman.  Precious treasure remains in a wise man’s dwelling\, but a foolish man devours it.  He who pursues righteousness and kindness will find life and honor.

Ρεβέκκα δε ήκουσε λαλούντος ᾿Ισαάκ πρός ῾Ησαύ τον υιόν αυτού. επορεύθη δε ῾Ησαύ εις το πεδίον θηρεύσαι θήραν τω πατρί αυτού· Ρεβέκκα δε είπε πρός ᾿Ιακώβ τον υιόν αυτής\, τον ελάσσω· ιδέ\, ήκουσα του πατρός σου λαλούντος πρός ῾Ησαύ τον αδελφόν σου λέγοντος· ένεγκόν μοι θήραν και ποίησόν μοι εδέσματα\, ίνα φαγών ευλογήσω σε εναντίον Κυρίου πρό του αποθανείν με. νύν ούν\, υιέ μου\, άκουσόν μου\, καθά εγώ σοι εντέλλομαι. και πορευθείς εις τα πρόβατα λαβέ μοι εκείθεν δύο ερίφους απαλούς και καλούς\, και ποιήσω αυτούς εδέσματα τω πατρί σου\, ως φιλεί\, και εισοίσεις τω πατρί σου και φάγεται\, όπως ευλογήση σε ο πατήρ σου πρό του αποθανείν αυτόν. είπε δε ᾿Ιακώβ πρός Ρεβέκκαν την μητέρα αυτού· έστιν ῾Ησαύ ο αδελφός μου ανήρ δασύς\, εγώ δε ανήρ λείος· μή ποτε ψηλαφήση με ο πατήρ\, και έσομαι εναντίον αυτού ως καταφρονών και επάξω επ᾿ εμαυτόν κατάραν και ουκ ευλογίαν. είπε δε αυτώ η μήτηρ· επ᾿ εμέ η κατάρα σου\, τέκνον· μόνον υπάκουσόν μοι της φωνής και πορευθείς ένεγκέ μοι. πορευθείς δε έλαβε και ήνεγκε τη μητρί\, και εποίησεν η μήτηρ αυτού εδέσματα\, καθά εφίλει ο πατήρ αυτού. και λαβούσα Ρεβέκκα την στολήν ῾Ησαύ του υιού αυτής του πρεσβυτέρου την καλήν\, ή ήν παρ᾿ αυτή εν τω οίκω\, ενέδυσεν αυτήν ᾿Ιακώβ τον υιόν αυτής τον νεώτερον και τα δέρματα των ερίφων περιέθηκεν επί τους βραχίονας αυτού και επί τα γυμνά του τραχήλου αυτού και έδωκε τα εδέσματα και τους άρτους\, ούς εποίησεν εις τάς χείρας ᾿Ιακώβ του υιού αυτής. και εισήνεγκε τω πατρί αυτού. είπε δέ· πάτερ. ο δε είπεν· ιδού εγώ· τίς ει σύ τέκνον; και είπεν ᾿Ιακώβ τω πατρί· εγώ ῾Ησαύ ο πρωτότοκός σου· πεποίηκα καθά ελάλησάς μοι· αναστάς κάθισον και φάγε από της θήρας μου\, όπως ευλογήση με η ψυχή σου. είπε δε ᾿Ισαάκ τω υιώ αυτού· τί τούτο\, ό ταχύ εύρες\, ώ τέκνον; ο δε είπεν· ό παρέδωκε Κύριος ο Θεός σου εναντίον μου. είπε δε ᾿Ισαάκ τω ᾿Ιακώβ· έγγισόν μοι και ψηλαφήσω σε\, τέκνον\, ει σύ ει ο υιός μου ῾Ησαύ ή ού. ήγγισε δε ᾿Ιακώβ πρός ᾿Ισαάκ τον πατέρα αυτού\, και εψηλάφησεν αυτόν και είπεν· η μέν φωνή φωνή ᾿Ιακώβ\, αι δε χείρες χείρες ῾Ησαύ. και ουκ επέγνω αυτόν· ήσαν γαρ αι χείρες αυτού ως αι χείρες ῾Ησαύ του αδελφού αυτού δασείαι· και ευλόγησεν αυτόν και είπε· σύ ει ο υιός μου ῾Ησαύ; ο δε είπεν· εγώ. και είπε· προσάγαγέ μοι\, και φάγομαι από της θήρας σου\, τέκνον\, ίνα ευλογήση σε η ψυχή μου. και προσήνεγκεν αυτώ\, και έφαγε· και εισήνεγκεν αυτώ οίνον\, και έπιε. και είπεν αυτώ ᾿Ισαάκ ο πατήρ αυτού· έγγισόν μοι και φίλησόν με τέκνον. και εγγίσας εφίλησεν αυτόν\, και ωσφράνθη την οσμήν των ιματίων αυτού και ευλόγησεν αυτόν και είπεν· ιδού οσμή του υιού μου ως οσμή αγρού πλήρους\, όν ευλόγησε Κύριος. και δῴη σοι ο Θεός από της δρόσου του ουρανού και από της πιότητος της γής και πλήθος σίτου και οίνου. και δουλευσάτωσάν σοι έθνη\, και προσκυνησάτωσάν σοι άρχοντες· και γίνου κύριος του αδελφού σου\, και προσκυνήσουσί σε οι υιοί του πατρός σου. ο καταρώμενός σε επικατάρατος\, ο δε ευλογών σε ευλογημένος. Και εγένετο μετά το παύσασθαι ᾿Ισαάκ ευλογούντα ᾿Ιακώβ τον υιόν αυτού και εγένετο\, ως εξήλθεν ᾿Ιακώβ από προσώπου ᾿Ισαάκ του πατρός αυτού\, και ῾Ησαύ ο αδελφός αυτού ήλθεν από της θήρας. και εποίησε και αυτός εδέσματα και προσήνεγκε τω πατρί αυτού. και είπε τω πατρί· αναστήτω ο πατήρ μου και φαγέτω από της θήρας του υιού αυτού\, όπως ευλογήση με η ψυχή σου. και είπεν αυτώ ᾿Ισαάκ ο πατήρ αυτού· τίς ει σύ; ο δε είπεν· εγώ ειμι ο υιός σου ο πρωτότοκος ῾Ησαύ. εξέστη δε ᾿Ισαάκ έκστασιν μεγάλην σφόδρα και είπε· τίς ούν ο θηρεύσας μοι θήραν και εισενέγκας μοι; και έφαγον από πάντων πρό του ελθείν σε και ευλόγησα αυτόν\, και ευλογημένος έσται. εγένετο δέ\, ηνίκα ήκουσεν ῾Ησαύ τα ρήματα του πατρός αυτού ᾿Ισαάκ\, ανεβόησε φωνήν μεγάλην και πικράν σφόδρα και είπεν· ευλόγησον δή καμέ\, πάτερ. είπε δε αυτώ· ελθών ο αδελφός σου μετά δόλου έλαβε την ευλογίαν σου. και είπε· δικαίως εκλήθη το όνομα αυτού ᾿Ιακώβ· επτέρνικε γάρ με ιδού δεύτερον τούτο· τά τε πρωτοτόκιά μου είληφε και νύν έλαβε την ευλογίαν μου· και είπεν ῾Ησαύ τω πατρί αυτού· ουχ υπελίπου μοι ευλογίαν\, πάτερ; αποκριθείς δε ᾿Ισαάκ είπε τω ῾Ησαύ· ει κύριον αυτόν πεποίηκά σου και πάντας τους αδελφούς αυτού πεποίηκα αυτού οικέτας\, σίτω και οίνω εστήριξα αυτόν\, σοί δε τί ποιήσω\, τέκνον; είπε δε ῾Ησαύ πρός τον πατέρα αυτού· μή ευλογία μία σοί εστι\, πάτερ; ευλόγησον δή καμέ\, πάτερ. κατανυχθέντος δε ᾿Ισαάκ ανεβόησε φωνή ῾Ησαύ και έκλαυσεν. αποκριθείς δε ᾿Ισαάκ ο πατήρ αυτού είπεν αυτώ· ιδού από της πιότητος της γής έσται η κατοίκησίς σου και από της δρόσου του ουρανού άνωθεν. και επί τη μαχαίρα σου ζήση και τω αδελφώ σου δουλεύσεις· έσται δε ηνίκα εάν καθέλης\, και εκλύσης τον ζυγόν αυτού από του τραχήλου σου. Perhaps my father will feel me\, and I shall seem to be mocking him\, and bring a curse upon myself and not a blessing.”  His mother said to him\, “Upon me be your curse\, my son; only obey my word\, and go\, fetch them to me.”  So he went and took them and brought them to his mother; and his mother prepared savory food\, such as his father loved.  Then Rebekah took the best garments of Esau her older son\, which were with her in the house\, and put them on Jacob her younger son; and the skins of the kids she put upon his hands and upon the smooth part of his neck; and she gave the savory food and the bread\, which she had prepared\, into the hand of her son Jacob.\nSo he went in to his father\, and said\, “My father”; and he said\, “Here I am; who are you\, my son?”  Jacob said to his father\, “I am Esau your first-born. I have done as you told me; now sit up and eat of my game\, that you may bless me.”  But Isaac said to his son\, “How is it that you have found it so quickly\, my son?” He answered\, “Because the LORD your God granted me success.”  Then Isaac said to Jacob\, “Come near\, that I may feel you\, my son\, to know whether you are really my son Esau or not.”  So Jacob went near to Isaac his father\, who felt him and said\, “The voice is Jacob’s voice\, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”  And he did not recognize him\, because his hands were hairy like his brother Esau’s hands; so he blessed him.  He said\, “Are you really my son Esau?” He answered\, “I am.”  Then he said\, “Bring it to me\, that I may eat of my son’s game and bless you.” So he brought it to him\, and he ate; and he brought him wine\, and he drank.  Then his father Isaac said to him\, “Come near and kiss me\, my son.”  So he came near and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his garments\, and blessed him\, and said\, “See\, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed! Cursed be every one who curses you\, and blessed be every one who blesses you!”\nAs soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob\, when Jacob had scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father\, Esau his brother came in from his hunting.  He also prepared savory food\, and brought it to his father. And he said to his father\, “Let my father arise\, and eat of his son’s game\, that you may bless me.”  His father Isaac said to him\, “Who are you?” He answered\, “I am your son\, your first-born\, Esau.”  Then Isaac trembled violently\, and said\, “Who was it then that hunted game and brought it to me\, and I ate it all before you came\, and I have blessed him? – Yes\, and he shall be blessed.”  When Esau heard the words of his father\, he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry\, and said to his father\, “Bless me\, even me also\, O my father!”  But he said\, “Your brother came with guile\, and he has taken away your blessing.”  Esau said\, “Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright; and behold\, now he has taken away my blessing.” Then he said\, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?”  Isaac answered Esau\, “Behold\, I have made him your lord\, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants\, and with grain and wine I have sustained him. What then can I do for you\, my son?”  Esau said to his father\, “Have you but one blessing\, my father? Bless me\, even me also\, O my father.” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.  Then Isaac his father answered him: “Behold\, away from the fatness of the earth shall your dwelling be\, and away from the dew of heaven on high.  By your sword you shall live\, and you shall serve your brother; but when you break loose you shall break his yoke from your neck.”  Now Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him\, and Esau said to himself\, “The days of mourning for my father are approaching; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”\nOld Testament Reading: Proverbs 19:16-25\nHe who keeps the commandment keeps his life; he who despises the word will die.  He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD\, and he will repay him for his deed.  Discipline your son while there is hope; do not set your heart on his destruction.  A man of great wrath will pay the penalty; for if you deliver him\, you will only have to do it again.  Listen to advice and accept instruction\, that you may gain wisdom for the future.  Many are the plans in the mind of a man\, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will be established.  What is desired in a man is loyalty\, and a poor man is better than a liar.  The fear of the LORD leads to life; and he who has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.  The sluggard buries his hand in the dish\, and will not even bring it back to his mouth.  Strike a scoffer\, and the simple will learn prudence; reprove a man of understanding\, and he will gain knowledge.
