For now we see in a mirror dimly\, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully\, even as I have been fully understood. So faith\, hope\, love abide\, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Make love your aim\, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts\, especially that you may prophesy. For the Spirit searches everything\, even the depths of God. For what person knows a man’s thoughts except the spirit of the man which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world\, but the Spirit which is from God\, that we might understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit\, comparing spiritual things with spiritual truths to those who possess the Spirit. The unspiritual man does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God\, for they are folly to him\, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man judges all things\, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. But I\, brethren\, could not address you as spiritual men\, but as men of the flesh\, as babes in Christ. I fed you with milk\, not solid food; for you were not ready for it; and even yet you are not ready\, for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you\, are you not of the flesh\, and behaving like ordinary men? For when one says\, “I belong to Paul\,” and another\, “I belong to Apollos\,” are you not merely men? What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed\, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted\, Apollos watered\, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything\, but only God who gives the growth. There is neither Jew nor Greek\, there is neither slave nor free\, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s\, then you are Abraham’s offspring\, heirs according to promise. Behold\, we call those happy who were steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job\, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord\, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful. But above all\, my brethren\, do not swear\, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath\, but let your yes be yes and your no be no\, that you may not fall under condemnation. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. “Drive out the wicked person from among you.” When one of you has a grievance against a brother\, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you\, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more\, matters pertaining to this life! If then you have such cases\, why do you lay them before those who are least esteemed by the church? I say this to your shame. Who tends a flock without getting some of the milk? Do I say this on human authority? Does not the law say the same? For it is written in the law of Moses\, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the grain.” Is it for oxen that God is concerned? Does he not speak entirely for our sake? It was written for our sake\, because the plowman should plow in hope and the thresher thresh in hope of a share in the crop. If we have sown spiritual good among you\, is it too much if we reap your material benefits? If others share this rightful claim upon you\, do not we still more? Nevertheless\, we have not made use of this right\, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ.\nGospel Reading: Luke 8:1-3\nAt that time Jesus went on through cities and villages\, preaching and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him\, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary\, called Magdalene\, from whom seven demons had gone out\, and Joanna\, the wife of Chuza\, Herod’s steward\, and Susanna\, and many others\, who provided for him out of their means.

Και γυνή ήτις έχει άνδρα άπιστον\, και αυτός συνευδοκεί οικείν μετʼ αυτής\, μή αφιέτω αυτόν. Ηγίασται γαρ ο ανήρ ο άπιστος εν τη γυναικί\, και ηγίασται η γυνή η άπιστος εν τω ανδρί· επεί άρα τα τέκνα υμών ακάθαρτά εστιν\, νύν δε άγιά εστιν. Ει δε ο άπιστος χωρίζεται\, χωριζέσθω. Ου δεδούλωται ο αδελφός ή η αδελφή εν τοις τοιούτοις· εν δε ειρήνη κέκληκεν ημάς ο θεός. Τί γαρ οίδας\, γύναι\, ει τον άνδρα σώσεις; Ή τί οίδας\, άνερ\, ει την γυναίκα σώσεις; Ει μή εκάστω ως εμέρισεν ο θεός\, έκαστον ως κέκληκεν ο κύριος\, ούτως περιπατείτω. Και ούτως εν ταις εκκλησίαις πάσαις διατάσσομαι. Περιτετμημένος τις εκλήθη; Μή επισπάσθω. Εν ακροβυστία τις εκλήθη; Μή περιτεμνέσθω. Η περιτομή ουδέν εστιν\, και η ακροβυστία ουδέν εστιν\, αλλά τήρησις εντολών θεού. Έκαστος εν τη κλήσει ή εκλήθη\, εν ταύτη μενέτω. Δούλος εκλήθης; Μή σοι μελέτω· αλλʼ ει και δύνασαι ελεύθερος γενέσθαι\, μάλλον χρήσαι. Ο γαρ εν κυρίω κληθείς δούλος\, απελεύθερος κυρίου εστίν· ομοίως και ο ελεύθερος κληθείς\, δούλός εστιν Χριστού. Τιμής ηγοράσθητε· μή γίνεσθε δούλοι ανθρώπων. Έκαστος εν ώ εκλήθη\, αδελφοί\, εν τούτω μενέτω παρά θεώ.\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου: Κατά Ματθαίον 14:35-36\, 15:1-11\nΤω καιρώ εκείνω\, επιγνόντες αυτόν οι άνδρες του τόπου εκείνου απέστειλαν εις όλην την περίχωρον εκείνην\, και προσήνεγκαν αυτώ πάντας τους κακώς έχοντας\, καί παρεκάλουν αυτόν ίνα κάν μόνον άψωνται του κρασπέδου του ιματίου αυτού· και όσοι ήψαντο διεσώθησαν. Τότε προσέρχονται τω ᾿Ιησού οι από ῾Ιεροσολύμων γραμματείς και Φαρισαίοι λέγοντες· διατί οι μαθηταί σου παραβαίνουσι την παράδοσιν των πρεσβυτέρων; ου γαρ νίπτονται τάς χείρας αυτών όταν άρτον εσθίωσιν. ο δε αποκριθείς είπεν αυτοίς· διατί και υμείς παραβαίνετε την εντολήν του Θεού διά την παράδοσιν υμών; ο γαρ Θεός ενετείλατο λέγων· τίμα τον πατέρα και την μητέρα· καί· ο κακολογών πατέρα ή μητέρα θανάτω τελευτάτω. υμείς δε λέγετε· ός άν είπη τω πατρί ή τη μητρί\, δώρον ό εάν εξ εμού ωφεληθής\, και ου μή τιμήση τον πατέρα αυτού ή την μητέρα αυτού· και ηκυρώσατε την εντολήν του Θεού διά την παράδοσιν υμών. υποκριταί! καλώς προεφήτευσε περί υμών ῾Ησαΐας λέγων· εγγίζει μοι ο λαός ούτος τω στόματι αυτώνκαί τοις χείλεσί με τιμά\,η δε καρδία αυτών πόρρω απέχει απ᾿ εμού· μάτην δε σέβονταί με\, διδάσκοντες διδασκαλίας εντάλματα ανθρώπων. Και προσκαλεσάμενος τον όχλον είπεν αυτοίς· ακούετε και συνίετε· ου το εισερχόμενον εις το στόμα κοινοί τον άνθρωπον\, αλλά το εκπορευόμενον εκ του στόματος τούτο κοινοί τον άνθρωπον.
