SUMMARY:Andrew of Crete Author of the Great Canon
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 07/04/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Andrew of Crete Author of the Great Canon; Martha\, mother of St. Symeon Stylites the Younger; Asclepias the Wonderworker; Michael Choniates\, Metropolitan of Athens\nStrict Fast\nEpistle Reading: Romans 11:25-36\nBrethren\, lest you be wise in your own conceits\, I want you to understand this mystery: a hardening has come upon part of Israel\, until the full number of Gentiles come in\, and so all Israel will be saved; as it is written\, “The Deliverer will come from Zion\, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob”; “and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins.” As regards the gospel they are enemies of God\, for your sake; but as regards election they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable. Just as you were once disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience\, so they have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may receive mercy. For God has consigned all men to disobedience\, that he may have mercy upon all. O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord\, or who has been his counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory for ever. Amen.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 12:1-8\nAt that time\, Jesus went through the grain fields on the sabbath; his disciples were hungry\, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it\, they said to him\, “Look\, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the sabbath.” He said to them\, “Have you not read what David did\, when he was hungry\, and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence\, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him\, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the law how on the sabbath the priests in the temple profane the sabbath\, and are guiltless? I tell you\, something greater than the temple is here. And if you had known what this means\, ‘I desire mercy\, and not sacrifice\,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is lord of the sabbath.”

SUMMARY:Athanasius of Mount Athos
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 07/05/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Athanasius of Mount Athos; Righteous Father Lampadus the Wonderworker; Kyprianos the New Martyr of Koutloumousiou Monastery; Uncovering of the Holy Relics of Our Righteous Father Sergius of Radonezh\nEpistle Reading: Galatians 5:22-26;6:1-2\nBrethren\, the fruit of the Spirit is love\, joy\, peace\, patience\, kindness\, goodness\, faithfulness\, gentleness\, self-control; against such there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit\, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us have no self-conceit\, no provoking of one another\, no envy of one another. Brethren\, if a man is overtaken in any trespass\, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Look to yourself\, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens\, and so fulfill the law of Christ.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 11:27-30\nThe Lord said to his disciples\, “All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father\, and no one knows the Father except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me\, all who labor and are heavy laden\, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you\, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart\, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy\, and my burden is light.”

SUMMARY:4th Sunday of Matthew
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 07/06/2025\nSaints and Feasts: 4th Sunday of Matthew; Sisoes the Great; Holy Apostles Archippus\, Philemon and Onesimus; Loukia the Virgin-martyr\, Rixios and the 24 Companion Martyrs; Juliana the Virgin-martyr\nMatins Gospel Reading: Luke 24:1-12\nOn the first day of the week at early dawn\, the women went to the tomb\, taking spices\, which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb\, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this\, behold\, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel; and as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground\, the men said to them\, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here\, but has risen. Remember how He told you\, while He was still in Galilee\, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men\, and be crucified\, and on the third day rise.” And they remembered His words and returning from the tomb they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told this to the Apostles; but these words seemed to them an idle tale\, and they did not believe them. But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in\, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home wondering at what had happened.\nEpistle Reading: Romans 6:18-23\nBrethren\, having been set free from sin\, you have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms\, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once yielded your members to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity\, so now yield your members to righteousness for sanctification.\nWhen you were slaves of sin\, you were free in regard to righteousness. But then what return did you get from the things of which you are now ashamed? The end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God\, the return you get is sanctification and its end\, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death\, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 8:5-13\nAt that time\, as Jesus entered Capernaum\, a centurion came forward to him\, beseeching him and saying\, “Lord\, my servant is lying paralyzed at home\, in terrible distress.” And he said to him\, “I will come and heal him.” But the centurion answered him\, “Lord\, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only say the word\, and my servant will be healed. For I am a man under authority\, with soldiers under me; and I say to one\, ‘Go\,’ and he goes\, and to another\, ‘Come\,’ and he comes\, and to my slave\, ‘Do this\,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard him\, he marveled\, and said to those who followed him\, “Truly\, I say to you\, not even in Israel have I found such faith. I tell you\, many will come from east and west and sit at table with Abraham\, Isaac\, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven\, while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.” And to the centurion Jesus said\, “Go; be it done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.

SUMMARY:Kyriake the Great Martyr
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 07/07/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Kyriake the Great Martyr; Thomas the Righteous of Malea; Akakios of Sinai; Willibald\, Bishop of Eichstatt\nEpistle Reading: Galatians 3:23-29;4:1-5\nBrethren\, before faith came\, we were confined under the law\, kept under restraint until faith should be revealed. So that the law was our custodian until Christ came\, that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come\, we are no longer under a custodian; for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God\, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek\, there is neither slave nor free\, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s\, then you are Abraham’s offspring\, heirs according to promise. I mean that the heir\, as long as he is a child\, is no better than a slave\, though he is the owner of all the estate; but he is under guardians and trustees until the date set by the father. So with us; when we were children\, we were slaves to the elemental spirits of the universe. But when the time had fully come\, God sent forth his Son\, born of a woman\, born under the law\, to redeem those who were under the law\, so that we might receive adoption as sons.\nGospel Reading: Mark 5:24-34\nAt that time\, a great crowd followed Jesus and thronged about him. And there was a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years\, and who had suffered much under many physicians\, and had spent all that she had\, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus\, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said\, “If I touch even his garments\, I shall be made well.” And immediately the hemorrhage ceased; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus\, perceiving in himself that power had gone forth from him\, immediately turned about in the crowd\, and said\, “Who touched my garments?” And his disciples said to him\, “You see the crowd pressing around you\, and yet you say\, ‘Who touched me?'” And he looked around to see who had done it. But the woman\, knowing what had been done to her\, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him\, and told him the whole truth. And he said to her\, “Daughter\, your faith has made you well; go in peace\, and be healed of your disease.”

SUMMARY:The Holy Great Martyr Procopius
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 07/08/2025\nSaints and Feasts: The Holy Great Martyr Procopius; Theophilos the Myrrhbearer of Pantokrator Monastery; Appearance of the Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos of Kazan\nEpistle Reading: I Timothy 4:9-15\nTimothy\, my son\, the saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance. For to this end we toil and suffer reproach\, because we have our hope set on the living God\, who is the Savior of all men\, especially of those who believe. Command and teach these things. Let no one despise your youth\, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct\, in love\, in faith\, in purity. Till I come\, attend to the public reading of scripture\, to preaching\, to teaching. Do not neglect the gift you have\, which was given you by prophetic utterance when the council of elders laid their hands upon you. Practice these duties\, devote yourself to them\, so that all may see your progress.\nGospel Reading: Luke 6:17-19\, 9:1-2\, 10:16-21\nAt that time\, a crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people came to Jesus from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon\, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all the crowd sought to touch him\, for power came forth from him and healed them all. And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases\, and sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal\, and He said to them: “He who hears you hears me\, and he who rejects you rejects me\, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me.” The seventy returned with joy\, saying\, “Lord\, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” And he said to them\, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold\, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions\, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this\, that the spirits are subject to you: but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said\, “I thank you\, Father\, Lord of heaven and earth\, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yes\, Father\, for such was your gracious will.

SUMMARY:The Holy Hieromartyr Pancratius\, Bishop of Tauromenium in Sicily
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 07/09/2025\nSaints and Feasts: The Holy Hieromartyr Pancratius\, Bishop of Tauromenium in Sicily; Dionysios the Orator; Metrophanes of Mount Athos; Methodios the Hieromartyr\, Bishop of Lampis; Patermuthius the Monk; Euthymios of Karelia; Michael Paknanas the Gardener\nStrict Fast\nEpistle Reading: Romans 15:7-16\nBrethren\, welcome one another\, as Christ has welcomed you\, for the glory of God. For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness\, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs\, and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written\, “Therefore I will praise thee among the Gentiles\, and sing to thy name”; and again it is said\, “Rejoice\, O Gentiles\, with his people”; and again\, “Praise the Lord\, all Gentiles\, and let all the peoples praise him”; and further Isaiah says\, “The root of Jesse shall come\, he who rises to rule the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles hope.” May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing\, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. I myself am satisfied about you\, my brethren\, that you yourselves are full of goodness\, filled with all knowledge\, and able to instruct one another. But on some points I have written to you very boldly by way of reminder\, because of the grace given me by God to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God\, so that the offering of the Gentiles may be acceptable\, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 12:38-45\nAt that time\, the scribes and Pharisees came to Jesus saying\, “Teacher\, we wish to see a sign from you.” But he answered them\, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign; but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale\, so will the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah\, and behold\, something greater than Jonah is here. The queen of the South will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon\, and behold\, something greater than Solomon is here.\n“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man\, he passes through waterless places seeking rest\, but he finds none. Then he says\, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes he finds it empty\, swept\, and put in order. Then he goes and brings with him seven other spirits more evil than himself\, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. So shall it be also with this evil generation.”

SUMMARY:45 Holy Martyrs of Nikopolis\, Armenia
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 07/10/2025\nSaints and Feasts: 45 Holy Martyrs of Nikopolis\, Armenia; Our Holy Father Gregory\, Bishop of Assa; Parthenios and Eumenios of Koudoumas; 10\,000 Fathers martyred in Egypt; Apollonios the Martyr; Deposition of the Precious Robe of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Moscow; Righteous Father Anthony of the Kiev Caves\nEpistle Reading: Romans 15:17-29\nBrethren\, in Christ Jesus I have reason to be proud of my work for God. For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has wrought through me to win obedience from the Gentiles\, by word and deed\, by the power of signs and wonders\, by the power of the Holy Spirit\, so that from Jerusalem and as far round as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ\, thus making it my ambition to preach the gospel\, not where Christ has already been named\, lest I build on another man’s foundation\, but as it is written\, “They shall see who have never been told of him\, and they shall understand who have never heard of him.” This is the reason why I have so often been hindered from coming to you. But now\, since I no longer have any room for work in these regions\, and since I have longed for many years to come to you\, I hope to see you in passing as I go to Spain\, and to be sped on my journey there by you\, once I have enjoyed your company for a little. At present\, however\, I am going to Jerusalem with aid for the saints. For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints at Jerusalem; they were pleased to do it\, and indeed – they are in debt to them\, for if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings\, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings. When therefore I have completed this\, and have sealed to them this fruit\, I shall go on by way of you to Spain; and I know that when I come to you I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 12:46-50; 13:1-3\nAt that time\, while Jesus was speaking to the people\, behold\, his mother and his brothers stood outside\, asking to speak to him. But he replied to the man who told him\, “Who is my mother\, and who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples\, he said\, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother\, and sister\, and mother.”\nThat same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. And great crowds gathered about him\, so that he entered a boat and sat there; and the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables.

SUMMARY:Euphemia the Great Martyr
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 07/11/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Euphemia the Great Martyr; The All-Praised Olga\, Equal-to-the-Apostles\, Princess of Kiev; Nektarios the New Martyr; Sophrony the Athonite of Essex; Nicodemos the New Martyr of Mt. Athos\nStrict Fast\nMatins Gospel Reading: Mark 5:24-34\nAt that time\, a great crowd followed Jesus and thronged about him. And he said to her\, “Daughter\, your faith has made you well; go in peace\, and be healed of your disease.”\nEpistle Reading: II Corinthians 6:1-10\nBrethren\, working together with him\, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says\, “At the acceptable time I have listened to you\, and helped you on the day of salvation.” Behold\, now is the acceptable time; behold\, now is the day of salvation. We put no obstacle in any one’s way\, so that no fault may be found with our ministry\, but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance\, in afflictions\, hardships\, calamities\, beatings\, imprisonments\, tumults\, labors\, watching\, hunger; by purity\, knowledge\, forbearance\, kindness\, the Holy Spirit\, genuine love\, truthful speech\, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor\, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors\, and yet are true; as unknown\, and yet well known; as dying\, and behold we live; as punished\, and yet not killed; as sorrowful\, yet always rejoicing; as poor\, yet making many rich; as having nothing\, and yet possessing everything.\nGospel Reading: Luke 7:36-50\nAt that time\, one of the Pharisees asked Jesus to eat with him\, and he went into the Pharisee’s house\, and took his place at table. And behold\, a woman of the city\, who was a sinner\, when she learned that he was at table in the Pharisee’s house\, brought an alabaster flask of ointment\, and standing behind him at his feet\, weeping\, she began to wet his feet with her tears\, and wiped them with the hair of her head\, and kissed his feet\, and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it\, he said to himself\, “If this man were a prophet\, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him\, for she is a sinner.” And Jesus answering said to him\, “Simon\, I have something to say to you.” And he answered\, “What is it\, Teacher?” “A certain creditor had two debtors; one owed five hundred denarii\, and the other fifty. When they could not pay\, he forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon answered\, “The one\, I suppose\, to whom he forgave more.” And he said to him\, “You have judged rightly.” Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon\, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house\, you gave me no water for my feet\, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You gave me no kiss\, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet. You did not anoint my head with oil\, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. Therefore I tell you\, her sins\, which are many\, are forgiven\, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little\, loves little.” And he said to her\, “Your sins are forgiven.” Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves\, “Who is this\, who even forgives sins?” And he said to the woman\, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

SUMMARY:Proclus & Hilary the Martyrs of Ancyra
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 07/12/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Proclus & Hilary the Martyrs of Ancyra; Our Holy Father Michael of Maleinus; Gerasimos of Byzantium and Akakios the young ascetic; Paisios the Athonite; Veronica\, the woman with the issue of blood who was healed by Jesus; Andre the Commander & his Companion Martyrs\nEpistle Reading: Romans 8:14-21\nBrethren\, all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.\nFor you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear\, but you have received the spirit of sonship. When we cry\, “Abba! Father!” it is the Spirit himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God\, and if children\, then heirs\, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ\, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.\nI consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God; for the creation was subjected to futility\, not of its own will but by the will of him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the glorious liberty of the children of God.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 9:9-13\nAt that time\, as Jesus passed on\, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax office; and he said to him\, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.\nAnd as he sat at table in the house\, behold\, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this\, they said to his disciples\, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard it\, he said\, “Those who are well have no need of a physician\, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means\, ‘I desire mercy\, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous\, but sinners to repentance.”

DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 07/13/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the 4th Ecumenical Council; Synaxis of Archangel Gabriel; Stephen of Mar Sabbas Monastery; Holy Martyr Golinduc; Marcian the Martyr of Iconium; Serapion the Martyr\nMatins Gospel Reading: Luke 24:12-35\nAt that time\, two of them were going to a village named Emmaus\, about seven miles from Jerusalem\, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing together\, Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from recognizing Him. And He said to them\, “What is this conversation which you are holding with each other as you walk?” and they stood still\, looking sad. Then one of them\, named Cleopas\, answered Him\, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” And He said to them\, “What things?” And they said to him\, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth\, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people\, and how our chief priests and rulers delivered Him up to be condemned to death\, and crucified Him. But we had hoped that He was the one to redeem Israel. Yes\, and besides all this\, it is now the third day since this happened. Moreover\, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find His body; and they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels\, who said that He was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb\, and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see.” And He said to them\, “O foolish men\, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was not it necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into this glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the prophets\, He interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself. So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He appeared to be going further\, but they constrained Him\, saying\, “Stay with us\, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So He went in to stay with them. When He was at table with them\, He took the bread and blessed\, and broke it\, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished out of their sight. They said to each other\, “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road\, while He opened to us the scriptures?” And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven gathered together and those who were with them\, who said\, “The Lord has risen indeed\, and has appeared to Simon!” Then they told what had happened on the road and how He was known to them in the breaking of the bread.\nEpistle Reading: Titus 3:8-15\nTitus\, my son\, the saying is sure. I desire you to insist on these things\, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to apply themselves to good deeds; these are excellent and profitable to men. But avoid stupid controversies\, genealogies\, dissensions\, and quarrels over the law\, for they are unprofitable and futile. As for a man who is factious\, after admonishing him once or twice\, have nothing more to do with him\, knowing that such a person is perverted and sinful; he is self-condemned.\nWhen I send Artemas or Tychicos to you\, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis\, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. And let our people learn to apply themselves to good deeds\, so as to help cases of urgent need\, and not to be unfruitful.\nAll who are with me send greeting to you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 5:14-19\nThe Lord said to his disciples\, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel\, but on a stand\, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men\, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly\, I say to you\, till heaven and earth pass away\, not an iota\, not a dot\, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so\, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
