Αλλά λήψεσθε δύναμιν\, επελθόντος του αγίου πνεύματος εφʼ υμάς· και έσεσθέ μοιN μάρτυρες έν τε Ιερουσαλήμ\, και εν πάση τη Ιουδαία και Σαμαρεία\, και έως εσχάτου της γής. Και ταύτα ειπών\, βλεπόντων αυτών επήρθη\, και νεφέλη υπέλαβεν αυτόν από των οφθαλμών αυτών. Και ως ατενίζοντες ήσαν εις τον ουρανόν\, πορευομένου αυτού\, και ιδού άνδρες δύο παρειστήκεισαν αυτοίς εν εσθήτι λευκή\, οί και είπον\, Άνδρες Γαλιλαίοι\, τί εστήκατε εμβλέποντες εις τον ουρανόν; Ούτος ο Ιησούς\, ο αναληφθείς αφʼ υμών εις τον ουρανόν\, ούτως ελεύσεται όν τρόπον εθεάσασθε αυτόν πορευόμενον εις τον ουρανόν. Τότε υπέστρεψαν εις Ιερουσαλήμ από όρους του καλουμένου Ελαιώνος\, ό εστιν εγγύς Ιερουσαλήμ\, σαββάτου έχον οδόν.\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου: Κατά Λουκάν 24:36-53\nΤω καιρώ εκείνω\, αναστάς ο Ιησούς εκ νεκρών έστη εν μέσω των Μαθητών\, και λέγει αυτοίς· Ειρήνη υμίν. Πτοηθέντες δε και έμφοβοι γενόμενοι\, εδόκουν πνεύμα θεωρείν. Και είπεν αυτοίς· Τί τεταραγμένοι εστέ\, και διατί διαλογισμοί αναβαίνουσιν εν ταις καρδίαις υμών; ίδετε τάς χείράς μου και τους πόδας μου\, ότι αυτός εγώ ειμι\, ψηλαφήσατέ με και ίδετε\, ότι πνεύμα σάρκα και οστέα ουκ έχει\, καθώς εμέ θεωρείτε έχοντα. Και τούτο ειπών\, επέδειξεν αυτοίς τάς χείρας και τους πόδας. Έτι δε απιστούντων αυτών από της χαράς\, και θαυμαζόντων\, είπεν αυτοίς· Έχετέ τι βρώσιμον ενθάδε; Οι δε επέδωκαν αυτώ ιχθύος οπτού μέρος\, και από μελισσίου κηρίου. Και λαβών\, ενώπιον αυτών έφαγεν. Είπε δε αυτοίς· Ούτοι οι λόγοι\, ούς ελάλησα πρός υμάς έτι ών σύν υμίν\, ότι δεί πληρωθήναι πάντα τα γεγραμμένα εν τω νόμω Μωσέως και Προφήταις και Ψαλμοίς περί εμού. Τότε διήνοιξεν αυτών τον νούν\, του συνιέναι τάς Γραφάς· και είπεν αυτοίς· Ότι ούτω γέγραπται\, και ούτως είδει παθείν τον Χριστόν\, και αναστήναι εκ νεκρών τη τρίτη ημέρα\, και κηρυχθήναι επί τω ονόματι αυτού μετάνοιαν και άφεσιν αμαρτιών εις πάντα τα έθνη\, αρξάμενον από Ιερουσαλήμ. She went and told those who had been with Him\, as they mourned and wept. But when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her\, they would not believe it.\nAfter this he appeared in another form to two of them\, as they were walking into the country. And they went back and told the rest\, but they did not believe them. After this He appeared to the eleven themselves as they sat at table and He upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart\, because they had not believed those who saw Him after He had risen. And He said to them\, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents\, and if they drink any deadly thing\, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick\, and they will recover.”\nSo then the Lord Jesus\, after He had spoken to them\, was taken up into heaven\, and sat down at the right hand of God. Amen.\nEpistle Reading: Acts 1:1-12\nIn the first book\, O Theophilos\, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach\, until the day when he was taken up\, after he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. To them he presented himself alive after his passion by many proofs\, appearing to them during forty days\, and speaking of the kingdom of God. And while staying with them he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem\, but to wait for the promise of the Father\, which\, he said\, “you heard from me\, for John baptized with water\, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” So when they had come together\, they asked him\, “Lord\, will you at this time restore the kingdom of Israel?” He said to them\, “it is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth.” And when he had said this\, as they were looking on\, he was lifted up\, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And He said to them\, “Why are you troubled\, and why do questionings rise in your hearts? See My hands and My feet\, that it is I Myself; handle Me\, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have.” And when He had said this\, He showed them His hands and His feet. And while they still disbelieved for joy\, and wondered\, He said to them\, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave Him a piece of broiled fish \, and He took it and ate before them. Then He said to them\, “These are My words which I spoke to you\, while I was still with you\, that everything written about Me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled.” Then He opened their minds to understand the scriptures\, and said to them\, “Thus it is written\, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead\, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in His name in all nations\, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold\, I send the promise of My Father upon you; but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” Then He led them out as far as Bethany\, and lifting up His hands\, He blessed them. So Paul\, standing in the middle of the Areopagos\, said: “Men of Athens\, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. For as I passed along\, and observed the objects of your worship\, I found also an altar with this inscription\, ‘To an unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown\, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it\, being Lord of heaven and earth\, does not live in shrines made by man\, nor is he served by human hands\, as though he needed anything\, since he himself gives to all men life and breath and everything. And Paul went in\, as was his custom\, and for three weeks he argued with them from the scriptures\, explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead\, and saying\, “This Jesus\, whom I proclaim to you\, is the Christ.” And some of them were persuaded\, and joined Paul and Silas; as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women. But the Jews were jealous\, and taking some wicked fellows of the rabble\, they gathered a crowd\, set the city in an uproar\, and attacked the house of Jason\, seeking to bring them out to the people. And when they could not find them\, they dragged Jason and some of the brethren before the city authorities\, crying\, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also\, and Jason has received them; and they are all acting against the decrees of Caesar\, saying that there is another king\, Jesus.” And the people and the city authorities were disturbed when they heard this. And when they had taken security from Jason and the rest\, they let them go.\nGospel Reading: John 11:47-54\nAt that time\, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the council\, and said\, “What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. If we let him go on thus\, every one will believe in him\, and the Romans will come and destroy both our place and our nation.” But one of them\, Caiaphas\, who was high priest that year\, said to them\, “You know nothing at all; you do not understand that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people\, and that the whole nation should not perish.” He did not say this of his own accord\, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation\, and not for the nation only\, but to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. So from that day on they took counsel how to put him to death.\nJesus therefore no longer went about openly among the Jews\, but went from there to the country near the wilderness\, to a town called Ephraim; and there he stayed with the disciples.

They said to her\, “Woman\, why are you weeping?” She said to them\, “Because they have taken away my Lord\, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” Saying this\, she turned round and saw Jesus standing\, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her\, “Woman\, why are you weeping? We are afflicted in every way\, but not crushed; perplexed\, but not driven to despair; persecuted\, but not forsaken; struck down\, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus\, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.  For while we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus’ sake\, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. Therefore his parents said\, “He is of age\, ask him.”\nSo for the second time they called the man who had been blind\, and said to him\, “Give God the praise; we know that this man is a sinner.” He answered\, “Whether he is a sinner\, I do not know; one thing I know\, that though I was blind\, now I see.” They said to him\, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” He answered them\, “I have told you already and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you too want to become his disciples?” And they reviled him\, saying\, “You are his disciple\, but we are disciples of Moses. You do not know where he comes from\, and yet he opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners\, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will\, God listens to him. And after some days Paul said to Barnabas\, “Come\, let us return and visit the brethren in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord\, and see how they are.” And Barnabas wanted to take with them John called Mark. But Paul thought best not to take with them one who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia\, and had not gone with them to the work. And there arose a sharp contention\, so that they separated from each other; Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus\, but Paul chose Silas and departed\, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord. And he went through Syria and Cilicia\, strengthening the churches.\nGospel Reading: John 10:27-38\nThe Lord said to the Jews who came to him\, “My sheep hear my voice\, and I know them\, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life\, and they shall never perish\, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. My Father\, who has given them to me\, is greater than all\, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”\nThe Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them\, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of these do you stone me?” The Jews answered him\, “It is not for a good work that we stone you but for blasphemy; because you\, being a man\, make yourself God.” Jesus answered them\, “Is it not written in your law\, ‘I said\, you are gods?’ If he called them gods to whom the word of God came (and scripture cannot be broken)\, do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world\, ‘You are blaspheming\,’ because I said\, ‘I am the Son of God’? If I am not doing the works of my Father\, then do not believe me; but if I do them\, even though you do not believe me\, believe my works\, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”

And after there had been much debate\, Peter rose and said to them\, “Brethren\, you know that in the early days God made choice among you\, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. And God who knows the heart bore witness to them\, giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us; and he made no distinction between us and them\, but cleansed their hearts by faith. Now therefore why do you make trial of God by putting a yoke upon the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe that we shall be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus\, just as they will.” And all the assembly kept silence; and they listened to Barnabas and Paul as they related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles.\nGospel Reading: John 10:17-28\nThe Lord said to the Jews who came to him\, “For this reason the Father loves me\, because I lay down my life\, that I may take it again. No one takes it from me\, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down\, and I have power to take it again; this charge I have received from my Father.”\nThere was again a division among the Jews because of these words. Many of them said\, “He has a demon\, and he is mad; why listen to him?” Others said\, “These are not the sayings of one who has a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”\nIt was the feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem; it was winter\, and Jesus was walking in the temple\, in the portico of Solomon. So the Jews gathered round him and said to him\, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ\, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered them\, “I told you\, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name\, they bear witness to me; but you do not believe\, because you do not belong to my sheep. My sheep hear my voice\, and I know them\, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life.”
