For it is all for your sake\, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving\, to the glory of God.\nSo we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away\, our inner nature is being renewed every day. Wherever the body is\, there the eagles will be gathered together.\n“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened\, and the moon will not give its light\, and the stars will fall from heaven\, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken; then will appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven\, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn\, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory; and he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call\, and they will gather his elect from the four winds\, from one end of heaven to the other.\n“From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves\, you know that summer is near. So also\, when you see all these things\, you know that he is near\, at the very gates.\n“Watch therefore\, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this\, that if the householder had known in what part of the night the thief was coming\, he would have watched and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.\n“Who then is the faithful and wise servant\, whom his master has set over his household\, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. Truly\, I say to you\, he will set him over all his possessions. Τα γαρ πάντα διʼ υμάς\, ίνα η χάρις πλεονάσασα διά των πλειόνων την ευχαριστίαν περισσεύση εις την δόξαν του θεού. Διό ουκ εκκακούμεν\, αλλʼ ει και ο έξω ημών άνθρωπος διαφθείρεται\, αλλʼ ο έσωθεν ανακαινούται ημέρα και ημέρα. Το γαρ παραυτίκα ελαφρόν της θλίψεως ημών καθʼ υπερβολήν εις υπερβολήν αιώνιον βάρος δόξης κατεργάζεται ημίν\, μή σκοπούντων ημών τα βλεπόμενα\, αλλά τα μή βλεπόμενα· τα γαρ βλεπόμενα πρόσκαιρα· τα δε μή βλεπόμενα αιώνια.\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου: Κατά Ματθαίον 24:27-33\, 42-51\nΕίπεν ο Κυριος τοις εαυτού μαθηταίς· Ώσπερ γαρ η αστραπή εξέρχεται από ανατολών και φαίνεται έως δυσμών\, ούτως έσται και η παρουσία του υιού του ανθρώπου· όπου γαρ εάν ᾖ το πτώμα\, εκεί συναχθήσονται οι αετοί. Ευθέως δε μετά την θλίψιν των ημερών εκείνων ο ήλιος σκοτισθήσεταικαί η σελήνη ου δώσει το φέγγος αυτής\, και οι αστέρες πεσούνται από του ουρανού\, και αι δυνάμεις των ουρανών σαλευθήσονται. και τότε φανήσεται το σημείον του υιού του ανθρώπου εν τω ουρανώ\, και τότε κόψονται πάσαι αι φυλαί της γής και όψονται τον υιόν του ανθρώπου ερχόμενον επί των νεφελών του ουρανού μετά δυνάμεως και δόξης πολλής. και αποστελεί τους αγγέλους αυτού μετά σάλπιγγος φωνής μεγάλης\, και επισυνάξουσι τους εκλεκτούς αυτού εκ των τεσσάρων ανέμων απ᾿ άκρων ουρανών έως άκρων αυτών. ᾿Από δε της συκής μάθετε την παραβολήν. όταν ήδη ο κλάδος αυτής γένηται απαλός και τα φύλλα εκφύη\, γινώσκετε ότι εγγύς το θέρος· ούτω και υμείς όταν ίδητε ταύτα πάντα\, γινώσκετε ότι εγγύς εστιν επί θύραις. γρηγορείτε ούν\, ότι ουκ οίδατε ποία ώρα ο Κύριος υμών έρχεται. ᾿Εκείνο δε γινώσκετε ότι ει ᾔδει ο οικοδεσπότης ποία φυλακή ο κλέπτης έρχεται\, εγρηγόρησεν άν και ουκ άν είασε διορυγήναι την οικίαν αυτού. διά τούτο και υμείς γίνεσθε έτοιμοι\, ότι ή ώρα ου δοκείτε ο υιός του ανθρώπου έρχεται.\nΤίς άρα εστίν ο πιστός δούλος και φρόνιμος\, όν κατέστησεν ο κύριος αυτού επί της θεραπείας αυτού του διδόναι αυτοίς την τροφήν εν καιρώ; μακάριος ο δούλος εκείνος όν ελθών ο κύριος αυτού ευρήσει ποιούντα ούτως. αμήν λέγω υμίν ότι επί πάσι τοις υπάρχουσιν αυτού καταστήσει αυτόν. εάν δε είπη ο κακός δούλος εκείνος εν τη καρδία αυτού\, χρονίζει ο κύριός μου ελθείν\,καί άρξηται τύπτειν τους συνδούλους αυτού\, εσθίη δε και πίνη μετά των μεθυόντων\, ήξει ο κύριος του δούλου εκείνου εν ημέρα ή ου προσδοκά και εν ώρα ή ου γινώσκει\, και διχοτομήσει αυτόν\, και το μέρος αυτού μετά των υποκριτών θήσει· εκεί έσται ο κλαυθμός και ο βρυγμός των οδόντων.
