Do you not know that the law is binding on a person only during his life? Thus a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives; but if her husband dies she is discharged from the law concerning the husband. Accordingly\, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies she is free from that law\, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress.\nLikewise\, my brethren\, you have died to the law through the body of Christ\, so that you may belong to another\, to him who has been raised from the dead in order that we may bear fruit for God. While we were living in the flesh\, our sinful passions\, aroused by the law\, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. But now we are discharged from the law\, dead to that which held us captive\, so that we serve not under the old written code but in the new life of the Spirit.\nWhat then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet\, if it had not been for the law\, I should not have known sin. Apart from the law sin lies dead. I was once alive apart from the law\, but when the commandment came\, sin revived and I died; the very commandment which promised life proved to be death to me. Νυνί δε κατηργήθημεν από του νόμου\, αποθανόντες εν ώ κατειχόμεθα\, ώστε δουλεύειν ημάς εν καινότητι πνεύματος\, και ου παλαιότητι γράμματος. Τί ούν ερούμεν; Ο νόμος αμαρτία; Μή γένοιτο· αλλά την αμαρτίαν ουκ έγνων\, ει μή διά νόμου· την τε γαρ επιθυμίαν ουκ ᾔδειν\, ει μή ο νόμος έλεγεν\, Ουκ επιθυμήσεις· αφορμήν δε λαβούσα η αμαρτία διά της εντολής κατειργάσατο εν εμοί πάσαν επιθυμίαν· χωρίς γαρ νόμου αμαρτία νεκρά. Εγώ δε έζων χωρίς νόμου ποτέ· ελθούσης δε της εντολής\, η αμαρτία ανέζησεν\, εγώ δε απέθανον· και ευρέθη μοι η εντολή η εις ζωήν\, αύτη εις θάνατον· η γαρ αμαρτία αφορμήν λαβούσα διά της εντολής εξηπάτησέν με\, και διʼ αυτής απέκτεινεν. Ώστε ο μέν νόμος άγιος\, και η εντολή αγία και δικαία και αγαθή. Το ούν αγαθόν εμοί γέγονεν θάνατος; Μή γένοιτο. Αλλά η αμαρτία\, ίνα φανή αμαρτία\, διά του αγαθού μοι κατεργαζομένη θάνατον – ίνα γένηται καθʼ υπερβολήν αμαρτωλός η αμαρτία διά της εντολής.\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου: Κατά Ματθαίον  9:36-38\, 10:1-8\nΤω καιρώ εκείνω\, ᾿Ιδών δε τους όχλους εσπλαγχνίσθη περί αυτών\, ότι ήσαν εκλελυμένοι και ερριμμένοι ως πρόβατα μή έχοντα ποιμένα. τότε λέγει τοις μαθηταίς αυτού· ο μέν θερισμός πολύς\, οι δε εργάται ολίγοι. δεήθητε ούν του κυρίου του θερισμού όπως εκβάλη εργάτας εις τον θερισμόν αυτού. Και προσκαλεσάμενος τους δώδεκα μαθητάς αυτού έδωκεν αυτοίς εξουσίαν πνευμάτων ακαθάρτων ώστε εκβάλλειν αυτά και θεραπεύειν πάσαν νόσον και πάσαν μαλακίαν.
