And they arrested them and put them in custody until the morrow\, for it was already evening. But many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to about five thousand.\nOn the morrow their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem\, with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander\, and all who were of the high-priestly family. Και επέβαλον αυτοίς τάς χείρας\, και έθεντο εις τήρησιν εις την αύριον· ήν γαρ εσπέρα ήδη. Πολλοί δε των ακουσάντων τον λόγον επίστευσαν· και εγενήθη ο αριθμός των ανδρών ωσεί χιλιάδες πέντε. Και στήσαντες αυτούς εν μέσω επυνθάνοντο\, Εν ποία δυνάμει ή εν ποίω ονόματι εποιήσατε τούτο υμείς; Τότε Πέτρος πλησθείς πνεύματος αγίου είπεν πρός αυτούς\, Άρχοντες του λαού και πρεσβύτεροι του Ισραήλ\, ει ημείς σήμερον ανακρινόμεθα επί ευεργεσία ανθρώπου ασθενούς\, εν τίνι ούτος σέσωσται· γνωστόν έστω πάσιν υμίν και παντί τω λαώ Ισραήλ\, ότι εν τω ονόματι Ιησού Χριστού του Ναζωραίου\, όν υμείς εσταυρώσατε\, όν ο θεός ήγειρεν εκ νεκρών\, εν τούτω ούτος παρέστηκεν ενώπιον υμών υγιής.\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου: Κατά Ιωάννην 3:16-21\nΕίπεν ο Κυριος τοις εαυτού μαθηταίς· Ούτω ηγάπησεν ο Θεός τον κόσμον\, ώστε τον Υιόν αυτού τον μονογενή έδωκεν\, ίνα πάς ο πιστεύων εις αυτόν μή απόληται\, αλλ᾽ έχη ζωήν αιώνιον. Ου γαρ απέστειλεν ο Θεός τον Υιόν αυτού εις τον κόσμον ίνα κρίνη τον κόσμον\, αλλ᾽ ίνα σωθή ο κόσμος δι᾽ αυτού. Ο πιστεύων εις αυτόν ου κρίνεται\, ο δε μή πιστεύων ήδη κέκριται\, ότι μή πεπίστευκεν εις το όνομα του μονογενούς υιού του Θεού. Αύτη δε εστιν η κρίσις\, ότι το φώς ελήλυθεν εις τον κόσμον\, και ηγάπησαν οι άνθρωποι μάλλον το σκότος ή το φώς· ήν γαρ πονηρά αυτών τα έργα. Πάς γαρ ο φαύλα πράσσων μισεί το φώς και ουκ έρχεται πρός το φώς\, ίνα μή ελεγχθή τα έργα αυτού· ο δε ποιών την αλήθειαν έρχεται πρός το φώς\, ίνα φανερωθή αυτού τα έργα\, ότι εν Θεώ εστιν ειργασμένα.
