The God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob\, the God of our fathers\, glorified his servant Jesus\, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate\, when he had decided to release him. But you denied the Holy and Righteous One\, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you\, and killed the Author of life\, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. You yourselves bear me witness\, that I said\, I am not the Christ\, but I have been sent before Him.  He who has the bride is the bridegroom; the friend of the bridegroom\, who stands and hears him\, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice; therefore this joy of mine is now full.  He must increase\, but I must decrease.\n“He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth belongs to the earth\, and of the earth he speaks; he who comes from heaven is above all.  He bears witness to what he has seen and heard\, yet no one receives his testimony; he who receives his testimony sets his seal to this\, that God is true.”

Και επί τη πίστει του ονόματος αυτού\, τούτον όν θεωρείτε και οίδατε εστερέωσεν το όνομα αυτού· και η πίστις η διʼ αυτού έδωκεν αυτώ την ολοκληρίαν ταύτην απέναντι πάντων υμών.\nΑνάγνωσις Ευαγγελίου: Κατά Ιωάννην 3:22-33\nΤω καιρώ εκείνω\, ήλθεν ο Ιησούς και οι μαθηταί αυτού εις την Ιουδαίαν γήν\, και εκεί διέτριβε μετ᾽ αυτών και εβάπτιζεν. Ήν δε και Ιωάννης βαπτίζων εν Αινών εγγύς του Σαλείμ\, ότι ύδατα πολλά ήν εκεί\, και παρεγίνοντο και εβαπτίζοντο· ούπω γαρ ήν βεβλημένος εις την φυλακήν ο Ιωάννης. Εγένετο ούν ζήτησις εκ των μαθητών Ιωάννου μετά Ιουδαίου περί καθαρισμού. Και  ήλθον πρός τον Ιωάννην και είπον αυτώ· Ῥαββί\, ός ήν μετά σού πέραν του Ιορδάνου\, ώ σύ μεμαρτύρηκας\, ίδε ούτος βαπτίζει και πάντες έρχονται  πρός αυτόν. Απεκρίθη Ιωάννης  και είπεν· Ου δύναται άνθρωπος λαμβάνειν ουδέν\, εάν μή ᾖ δεδομένον αυτώ  εκ του ουρανού. Αυτοί υμείς μοι μαρτυρείτε ότι είπον· Ουκ ειμί εγώ ο  Χριστός\, αλλ᾽ ότι απεσταλμένος ειμί έμπροσθεν εκείνου. Ο έχων την νύμφην νυμφίος εστίν· ο δε φίλος του νυμφίου\, ο εστηκώς και  ακούων αυτού\, χαρά χαίρει διά την φωνήν του νυμφίου. Αύτη ούν η χαρά η  εμή πεπλήρωται. Εκείνον δεί  αυξάνειν\, εμέ δε ελαττούσθαι. Ο άνωθεν ερχόμενος επάνω πάντων εστίν. Ο ών εκ της γής εκ της γής εστι και εκ της γής λαλεί· ο εκ του ουρανού  ερχόμενος επάνω πάντων εστί\, καί ό εώρακε και ήκουσε\, τούτο μαρτυρεί\, και την μαρτυρίαν αυτού ουδείς λαμβάνει. Ο λαβών αυτού την μαρτυρίαν εσφράγισεν ότι ο Θεός αληθής εστιν.
