Yet they seek me daily\, and delight to know my ways\, as if they were a nation that did righteousness and did not forsake the ordinance of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments\, they delight to draw near to God.  ‘Why have we fasted\, and thou seest it not? Why have we humbled ourselves\, and thou takest no knowledge of it?’ Behold\, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure\, and oppress all your workers.  Behold\, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hit with wicked fist. Fasting like yours this day will not make your voice to be heard on high.  Is such the fast that I choose\, a day for a man to humble himself? Is it to bow down his head like a rush\, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? When the report was heard in Pharaoh’s house\, “Joseph’s brothers have come\,” it pleased Pharaoh and his servants well.\nOld Testament Reading: Proverbs 21:23-22:4\nHe who keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.  “Scoffer” is the name of the proud\, haughty man who acts with arrogant pride.  The desire of the sluggard kills him for his hands refuse to labor.  All day long the wicked covets\, but the righteous gives and does not hold back.  The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more when he brings it with evil intent.  A false witness will perish\, but the word of a man who hears will endure.  A wicked man puts on a bold face\, but an upright man considers his ways.  No wisdom\, no understanding\, no counsel\, can avail against the LORD.  The horse is made ready for the day of battle\, but the victory belongs to the LORD.  A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches\, and favor is better than silver or gold.  The rich and the poor meet together; the LORD is the maker of them all.  A prudent man sees danger and hides himself; but the simple go on\, and suffer for it.  The reward for humility and fear of the LORD is riches and honor and life.

ου ταύτην την νηστείαν εξελεξάμην και ημέραν ταπεινούν άνθρωπον την ψυχήν αυτού· ουδ᾿ άν κάμψης ως κρίκον τον τράχηλόν σου και σάκκον και σποδόν υποστρώση\, ουδ᾿ ούτω καλέσετε νηστείαν δεκτήν. ουχί τοιαύτην νηστείαν εγώ εξελεξάμην\, λέγει Κύριος\, αλλά λύε πάντα σύνδεσμον αδικίας\, διάλυε στραγγαλιάς βιαίων συναλλαγμάτων\, απόστελλε τεθραυσμένους εν αφέσει και πάσαν συγγραφήν άδικον διάσπα· διάθρυπτε πεινώντι τον άρτον σου και πτωχούς αστέγους είσαγε εις τον οίκόν σου· εάν ίδης γυμνόν\, περίβαλε\, και από των οικείων του σπέρματός σου ουχ υπερόψει. τότε ραγήσεται πρώϊμον το φώς σου\, και τα ιάματά σου ταχύ ανατελεί\, και προπορεύσεται έμπροσθέν σου η δικαιοσύνη σου\, και η δόξα του Θεού περιστελεί σε. τότε βοήση\, και ο Θεός εισακούσεταί σου· έτι λαλούντός σου ερεί· ιδού πάρειμι. εάν αφέλης από σού σύνδεσμον και χειροτονίαν και ρήμα γογγυσμού και δώς πεινώντι τον άρτον εκ ψυχής σου και ψυχήν τεταπεινωμένην εμπλήσης\, τότε ανατελεί εν τω σκότει το φώς σου\, και το σκότος σου ως μεσημβρία. και έσται ο Θεός σου μετά σού διαπαντός· και εμπλησθήση καθάπερ επιθυμεί η ψυχή σου\, και τα οστά σου πιανθήσεται\, και έση ως κήπος μεθύων και ως πηγή ήν μή εξέλιπεν ύδωρ και τα οστά σου ως βοτάνη ανατελεί και πιανθήσεται και κληρονομήσουσι γενεάς γενεών.\nΑνάγνωσις Παλαιᾱς Διαθήκης: Γένεσις 43:26-31\, 45:1-16\nΗρώτησε δε αυτούς\, πώς έχετε; και είπεν αυτοίς· ει υγιαίνει ο πατήρ υμών ο πρεσβύτης\, όν είπατε; έτι ζή; 2οι δε είπαν· υγιαίνει ο παίς σου ο πατήρ ημών\, έτι ζή· και είπεν· ευλογημένος ο άνθρωπος εκείνος τω Θεώ. και κύψαντες προσεκύνησαν αυτώ. αναβλέψας δε τοις οφθαλμοίς αυτού ᾿Ιωσήφ είδε Βενιαμίν τον αδελφόν αυτού τον ομομήτριον και είπεν· ούτος ο αδελφός υμών ο νεώτερος\, όν είπατε πρός με αγαγείν; και είπεν· ο Θεός ελεήσαι σε τέκνον. εταράχθη δε ᾿Ιωσήφ\, συνεστρέφετο γαρ τα έγκατα αυτού επί τω αδελφώ αυτού\, και εζήτει κλαύσαι· εισελθών δε εις το ταμείον έκλαυσεν εκεί. και νιψάμενος το πρόσωπον εξελθών ενεκρατεύσατο και είπε· παράθετε άρτους. και παρέθηκαν αυτώ μόνω και αυτοίς καθ᾿ εαυτούς και τοις Αιγυπτίοις τοις συνδειπνούσι μετ᾿ αυτού καθ᾿ εαυτούς· ου γαρ εδύναντο οι Αιγύπτιοι συνεσθίειν μετά των ῾Εβραίων άρτους\, βδέλυγμα γάρ εστι τοις Αιγυπτίοις.\n(45:1-16)  Και ουκ ηδύνατο ᾿Ιωσήφ ανέχεσθαι πάντων των παρεστηκότων αυτώ\, αλλ᾿ είπεν· εξαποστείλατε πάντας απ᾿ εμού. και ου παρειστήκει ουδείς τω ᾿Ιωσήφ\, ηνίκα ανεγνωρίζετο τοις αδελφοίς αυτού. και αφήκε φωνήν μετά κλαυθμού· ήκουσαν δε πάντες οι Αιγύπτιοι\, και ακουστόν εγένετο εις τον οίκον Φαραώ. είπε δε ᾿Ιωσήφ πρός τους αδελφούς αυτού· εγώ ειμι ᾿Ιωσήφ. έτι ο πατήρ μου ζή; Και διεβοήθη η φωνή εις τον οίκον Φαραώ λέγοντες· ήκασιν οι αδελφοί ᾿Ιωσήφ. εχάρη δε Φαραώ και η θεραπεία αυτού.\nΑνάγνωσις Παλαιᾱς Διαθήκης: Παροιμίαι 21:23-22:4\nΌς φυλάσσει το στόμα αυτού και την γλώσσαν\, διατηρεί εκ θλίψεως την ψυχήν αυτού. θρασύς και αυθάδης και αλαζών λοιμός καλείται\, ός δε μνησικακεί\, παράνομος. επιθυμίαι οκνηρόν αποκτείνουσιν\, ου γαρ προαιρούνται αι χείρες αυτού ποιείν τι. ασεβής επιθυμεί όλην την ημέραν επιθυμίας κακάς\, ο δε δίκαιος ελεά και οικτείρει αφειδώς. θυσίαι ασεβών βδέλυγμα Κυρίω\, και γαρ παρανόμως προσφέρουσιν αυτάς. μάρτυς ψευδής απολείται\, ανήρ δε υπήκοος φυλασσόμενος λαλήσει. ασεβής ανήρ αναιδώς υφίσταται προσώπω\, ο δε ευθής αυτός συνίει τάς οδούς αυτού. ουκ έστι σοφία\, ουκ έστιν ανδρεία\, ουκ έστι βουλή πρός τον ασεβή. ίππος ετοιμάζεται εις ημέραν πολέμου\, παρά δε Κυρίου η βοήθεια. Αιρετώτερον όνομα καλόν ή πλούτος πολύς\, υπέρ δε αργύριον και χρυσίον χάρις αγαθή\, πλούσιος και πτωχός συνήντησαν αλλήλοις\, αμφοτέρους δε ο Κύριος εποίησε. πανούργος ιδών πονηρόν τιμωρούμενον κραταιώς αυτός παιδεύεται\, οι δε άφρονες παρελθόντες εζημιώθησαν. γενεά σοφίας φόβος Κυρίου και πλούτος και δόξα και ζωή.
