Perhaps my father will feel me\, and I shall seem to be mocking him\, and bring a curse upon myself and not a blessing.”  His mother said to him\, “Upon me be your curse\, my son; only obey my word\, and go\, fetch them to me.”  So he went and took them and brought them to his mother; and his mother prepared savory food\, such as his father loved.  Then Rebekah took the best garments of Esau her older son\, which were with her in the house\, and put them on Jacob her younger son; and the skins of the kids she put upon his hands and upon the smooth part of his neck; and she gave the savory food and the bread\, which she had prepared\, into the hand of her son Jacob.\nSo he went in to his father\, and said\, “My father”; and he said\, “Here I am; who are you\, my son?”  Jacob said to his father\, “I am Esau your first-born. I have done as you told me; now sit up and eat of my game\, that you may bless me.”  But Isaac said to his son\, “How is it that you have found it so quickly\, my son?” He answered\, “Because the LORD your God granted me success.”  Then Isaac said to Jacob\, “Come near\, that I may feel you\, my son\, to know whether you are really my son Esau or not.”  So Jacob went near to Isaac his father\, who felt him and said\, “The voice is Jacob’s voice\, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”  And he did not recognize him\, because his hands were hairy like his brother Esau’s hands; so he blessed him.  He said\, “Are you really my son Esau?” He answered\, “I am.”  Then he said\, “Bring it to me\, that I may eat of my son’s game and bless you.” So he brought it to him\, and he ate; and he brought him wine\, and he drank.  Then his father Isaac said to him\, “Come near and kiss me\, my son.”  So he came near and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his garments\, and blessed him\, and said\, “See\, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed! For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright; and behold\, now he has taken away my blessing.” Then he said\, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?”  Isaac answered Esau\, “Behold\, I have made him your lord\, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants\, and with grain and wine I have sustained him. What then can I do for you\, my son?”  Esau said to his father\, “Have you but one blessing\, my father? Bless me\, even me also\, O my father.” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.  Then Isaac his father answered him: “Behold\, away from the fatness of the earth shall your dwelling be\, and away from the dew of heaven on high.  By your sword you shall live\, and you shall serve your brother; but when you break loose you shall break his yoke from your neck.”  Now Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him\, and Esau said to himself\, “The days of mourning for my father are approaching; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”\nOld Testament Reading: Proverbs 19:16-25\nHe who keeps the commandment keeps his life; he who despises the word will die.  He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD\, and he will repay him for his deed.  Discipline your son while there is hope; do not set your heart on his destruction.  A man of great wrath will pay the penalty; for if you deliver him\, you will only have to do it again.  Listen to advice and accept instruction\, that you may gain wisdom for the future.  Many are the plans in the mind of a man\, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will be established.  What is desired in a man is loyalty\, and a poor man is better than a liar.  The fear of the LORD leads to life; and he who has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.  The sluggard buries his hand in the dish\, and will not even bring it back to his mouth.  Strike a scoffer\, and the simple will learn prudence; reprove a man of understanding\, and he will gain knowledge.

Ρεβέκκα δε ήκουσε λαλούντος ᾿Ισαάκ πρός ῾Ησαύ τον υιόν αυτού. επορεύθη δε ῾Ησαύ εις το πεδίον θηρεύσαι θήραν τω πατρί αυτού· Ρεβέκκα δε είπε πρός ᾿Ιακώβ τον υιόν αυτής\, τον ελάσσω· ιδέ\, ήκουσα του πατρός σου λαλούντος πρός ῾Ησαύ τον αδελφόν σου λέγοντος· ένεγκόν μοι θήραν και ποίησόν μοι εδέσματα\, ίνα φαγών ευλογήσω σε εναντίον Κυρίου πρό του αποθανείν με. νύν ούν\, υιέ μου\, άκουσόν μου\, καθά εγώ σοι εντέλλομαι. και πορευθείς εις τα πρόβατα λαβέ μοι εκείθεν δύο ερίφους απαλούς και καλούς\, και ποιήσω αυτούς εδέσματα τω πατρί σου\, ως φιλεί\, και εισοίσεις τω πατρί σου και φάγεται\, όπως ευλογήση σε ο πατήρ σου πρό του αποθανείν αυτόν. είπε δε ᾿Ιακώβ πρός Ρεβέκκαν την μητέρα αυτού· έστιν ῾Ησαύ ο αδελφός μου ανήρ δασύς\, εγώ δε ανήρ λείος· μή ποτε ψηλαφήση με ο πατήρ\, και έσομαι εναντίον αυτού ως καταφρονών και επάξω επ᾿ εμαυτόν κατάραν και ουκ ευλογίαν. είπε δε αυτώ η μήτηρ· επ᾿ εμέ η κατάρα σου\, τέκνον· μόνον υπάκουσόν μοι της φωνής και πορευθείς ένεγκέ μοι. πορευθείς δε έλαβε και ήνεγκε τη μητρί\, και εποίησεν η μήτηρ αυτού εδέσματα\, καθά εφίλει ο πατήρ αυτού. και λαβούσα Ρεβέκκα την στολήν ῾Ησαύ του υιού αυτής του πρεσβυτέρου την καλήν\, ή ήν παρ᾿ αυτή εν τω οίκω\, ενέδυσεν αυτήν ᾿Ιακώβ τον υιόν αυτής τον νεώτερον και τα δέρματα των ερίφων περιέθηκεν επί τους βραχίονας αυτού και επί τα γυμνά του τραχήλου αυτού και έδωκε τα εδέσματα και τους άρτους\, ούς εποίησεν εις τάς χείρας ᾿Ιακώβ του υιού αυτής. και εισήνεγκε τω πατρί αυτού. είπε δέ· πάτερ. ο δε είπεν· ιδού εγώ· τίς ει σύ τέκνον; και είπεν ᾿Ιακώβ τω πατρί· εγώ ῾Ησαύ ο πρωτότοκός σου· πεποίηκα καθά ελάλησάς μοι· αναστάς κάθισον και φάγε από της θήρας μου\, όπως ευλογήση με η ψυχή σου. είπε δε ᾿Ισαάκ τω υιώ αυτού· τί τούτο\, ό ταχύ εύρες\, ώ τέκνον; ο δε είπεν· ό παρέδωκε Κύριος ο Θεός σου εναντίον μου. είπε δε ᾿Ισαάκ τω ᾿Ιακώβ· έγγισόν μοι και ψηλαφήσω σε\, τέκνον\, ει σύ ει ο υιός μου ῾Ησαύ ή ού. ήγγισε δε ᾿Ιακώβ πρός ᾿Ισαάκ τον πατέρα αυτού\, και εψηλάφησεν αυτόν και είπεν· η μέν φωνή φωνή ᾿Ιακώβ\, αι δε χείρες χείρες ῾Ησαύ. και ουκ επέγνω αυτόν· ήσαν γαρ αι χείρες αυτού ως αι χείρες ῾Ησαύ του αδελφού αυτού δασείαι· και ευλόγησεν αυτόν και είπε· σύ ει ο υιός μου ῾Ησαύ; ο δε είπεν· εγώ. και είπε· προσάγαγέ μοι\, και φάγομαι από της θήρας σου\, τέκνον\, ίνα ευλογήση σε η ψυχή μου. και προσήνεγκεν αυτώ\, και έφαγε· και εισήνεγκεν αυτώ οίνον\, και έπιε. και είπεν αυτώ ᾿Ισαάκ ο πατήρ αυτού· έγγισόν μοι και φίλησόν με τέκνον. και εγγίσας εφίλησεν αυτόν\, και ωσφράνθη την οσμήν των ιματίων αυτού και ευλόγησεν αυτόν και είπεν· ιδού οσμή του υιού μου ως οσμή αγρού πλήρους\, όν ευλόγησε Κύριος. και δῴη σοι ο Θεός από της δρόσου του ουρανού και από της πιότητος της γής και πλήθος σίτου και οίνου. και δουλευσάτωσάν σοι έθνη\, και προσκυνησάτωσάν σοι άρχοντες· και γίνου κύριος του αδελφού σου\, και προσκυνήσουσί σε οι υιοί του πατρός σου. ο καταρώμενός σε επικατάρατος\, ο δε ευλογών σε ευλογημένος. Και εγένετο μετά το παύσασθαι ᾿Ισαάκ ευλογούντα ᾿Ιακώβ τον υιόν αυτού και εγένετο\, ως εξήλθεν ᾿Ιακώβ από προσώπου ᾿Ισαάκ του πατρός αυτού\, και ῾Ησαύ ο αδελφός αυτού ήλθεν από της θήρας. και εποίησε και αυτός εδέσματα και προσήνεγκε τω πατρί αυτού. και είπε τω πατρί· αναστήτω ο πατήρ μου και φαγέτω από της θήρας του υιού αυτού\, όπως ευλογήση με η ψυχή σου. και είπεν αυτώ ᾿Ισαάκ ο πατήρ αυτού· τίς ει σύ; ο δε είπεν· εγώ ειμι ο υιός σου ο πρωτότοκος ῾Ησαύ. εξέστη δε ᾿Ισαάκ έκστασιν μεγάλην σφόδρα και είπε· τίς ούν ο θηρεύσας μοι θήραν και εισενέγκας μοι; και έφαγον από πάντων πρό του ελθείν σε και ευλόγησα αυτόν\, και ευλογημένος έσται. εγένετο δέ\, ηνίκα ήκουσεν ῾Ησαύ τα ρήματα του πατρός αυτού ᾿Ισαάκ\, ανεβόησε φωνήν μεγάλην και πικράν σφόδρα και είπεν· ευλόγησον δή καμέ\, πάτερ. είπε δε αυτώ· ελθών ο αδελφός σου μετά δόλου έλαβε την ευλογίαν σου. και είπε· δικαίως εκλήθη το όνομα αυτού ᾿Ιακώβ· επτέρνικε γάρ με ιδού δεύτερον τούτο· τά τε πρωτοτόκιά μου είληφε και νύν έλαβε την ευλογίαν μου· και είπεν ῾Ησαύ τω πατρί αυτού· ουχ υπελίπου μοι ευλογίαν\, πάτερ; αποκριθείς δε ᾿Ισαάκ είπε τω ῾Ησαύ· ει κύριον αυτόν πεποίηκά σου και πάντας τους αδελφούς αυτού πεποίηκα αυτού οικέτας\, σίτω και οίνω εστήριξα αυτόν\, σοί δε τί ποιήσω\, τέκνον; είπε δε ῾Ησαύ πρός τον πατέρα αυτού· μή ευλογία μία σοί εστι\, πάτερ; ευλόγησον δή καμέ\, πάτερ. κατανυχθέντος δε ᾿Ισαάκ ανεβόησε φωνή ῾Ησαύ και έκλαυσεν. αποκριθείς δε ᾿Ισαάκ ο πατήρ αυτού είπεν αυτώ· ιδού από της πιότητος της γής έσται η κατοίκησίς σου και από της δρόσου του ουρανού άνωθεν. και επί τη μαχαίρα σου ζήση και τω αδελφώ σου δουλεύσεις· έσται δε ηνίκα εάν καθέλης\, και εκλύσης τον ζυγόν αυτού από του τραχήλου σου. Και ενεκότει ῾Ησαύ τω ᾿Ιακώβ περί της ευλογίας ής ευλόγησεν αυτόν ο πατήρ αυτού· είπε δε ῾Ησαύ εν τη διανοία αυτού· εγγισάτωσαν αι ημέραι του πένθους του πατρός μου\, ίνα αποκτείνω ᾿Ιακώβ τον αδελφόν μου.\nΑνάγνωσις Παλαιᾱς Διαθήκης: Παροιμίαι 19:16-25\nΌς φυλάσσει εντολήν\, τηρεί την εαυτού ψυχήν\, ο δε καταφρονών των εαυτού οδών απολείται. δανείζει Θεώ ο ελεών πτωχόν\, κατά δε το δόμα αυτού ανταποδώσει αυτώ. παίδευε υιόν σου\, ούτως γαρ έσται εύελπις\, εις δε ύβριν μή επαίρου τη ψυχή σου. κακόφρων ανήρ πολλά ζημιωθήσεται· εάν δε λοιμεύηται\, και την ψυχήν αυτού προσθήσει. άκουε\, υιέ\, παιδείαν πατρός σου\, ίνα σοφός γένη επ᾿ εσχάτων σου. πολλοί λογισμοί εν καρδία ανδρός\, η δε βουλή του Κυρίου εις τον αιώνα μένει. καρπός ανδρί ελεημοσύνη\, κρείσσων δε πτωχός δίκαιος ή πλούσιος ψεύστης. φόβος Κυρίου εις ζωήν ανδρί\, ο δε άφοβος αυλισθήσεται εν τόποις\, ού ουκ επισκοπείται γνώσις. ο εγκρύπτων εις τον κόλπον αυτού χείρας αδίκως\, ουδέ τω στόματι ου μή προσαγάγη αυτάς. λοιμού μαστιγουμένου\, άφρων πανουργότερος γίνεται· εάν δε ελέγχης άνδρα φρόνιμον\, νοήσει αίσθησιν.
