I am the LORD\, that is my name; my glory I give to no other\, nor my praise to graven images. Suppose ten are found there.” He answered\, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.”  And the LORD went his way\, when he had finished speaking to Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.\nOld Testament Reading: Proverbs 16:17-17:17\nThe highway of the upright turns aside from evil; he who guards his way preserves his life.  Pride goes before destruction\, and a haughty spirit before a fall.  It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud.  He who gives heed to the word will prosper\, and happy is he who trusts in the LORD.  The wise of heart is called a man of discernment\, and pleasant speech increases persuasiveness.  Wisdom is a fountain of life to him who has it\, but folly is the chastisement of fools.  The mind of the wise makes his speech judicious\, and adds persuasiveness to his lips.  Pleasant words are like a honeycomb\, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.  There is a way which seems right to a man\, but its end is the way to death.  A worker’s appetite works for him; his mouth urges him on.  A worthless man plots evil\, and his speech is like a scorching fire.  A perverse man spreads strife\, and a whisperer separates close friends.  A man of violence entices his neighbor and leads him in a way that is not good.  He who winks his eyes plans perverse things\, he who compresses his lips brings evil to pass.  A hoary head is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.  He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty\, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.  The lot is cast into the lap\, but the decision is wholly from the LORD.\n  Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife.  A slave who deals wisely will rule over a son who acts shamefully\, and will share the inheritance as one of the brothers.  The crucible is for silver\, and the furnace is for gold\, and the LORD tries hearts.  An evildoer listens to wicked lips; and a liar gives heed to a mischievous tongue.  He who mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.  Grandchildren are the crown of the aged\, and the glory of sons is their fathers.  Fine speech is not becoming to a fool; still less is false speech to a prince.  A bribe is like a magic stone in the eyes of him who gives it; wherever he turns he prospers.  He who forgives an offense seeks love\, but he who repeats a matter alienates a friend.  A rebuke goes deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred blows into a fool.  An evil man seeks only rebellion\, and a cruel messenger will be sent against him.  Let a man meet a she-bear robbed of her cubs\, rather than a fool in his folly.  If a man returns evil for good\, evil will not depart from his house.  The beginning of strife is like letting out water; so quit before the quarrel breaks out.  He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the LORD.  Why should a fool have a price in his hand to buy wisdom\, when he has no mind?  A friend loves at all times\, and a brother is born for adversity.

Κύριος ο Θεός των δυνάμεων εξελεύσεται και συντρίψει πόλεμον\, επεγερεί ζήλον και βοήσεται επί τους εχθρούς αυτού μετά ισχύος.\n εσιώπησα\, μή και αεί σιωπήσομαι και ανέξομαι; ως η τίκτουσα εκαρτέρησα\, εκστήσω και ξηρανώ άμα. ερημώσω όρη και βουνούς και πάντα χόρτον αυτών ξηρανώ\, και θήσω ποταμούς εις νήσους και έλη ξηρανώ. και άξω τυφλούς εν οδώ\, ή ουκ έγνωσαν\, και τρίβους άς ουκ ᾔδεισαν\, πατήσαι ποιήσω αυτούς· ποιήσω αυτοίς το σκότος εις φώς και τα σκολιά εις ευθείαν· ταύτα τα ρήματα ποιήσω και ουκ εγκαταλείψω αυτούς.\nΑνάγνωσις Παλαιᾱς Διαθήκης: Γένεσις 18:20-33\nΕίπε δε Κύριος· κραυγή Σοδόμων και Γομόρρας πεπλήθυνται πρός με\, και αι αμαρτίαι αυτών μεγάλαι σφόδρα. καταβάς ούν όψομαι\, ει κατά την κραυγήν αυτών την ερχομένην πρός με συντελούνται\, ει δε μή\, ίνα γνώ. και αποστρέψαντες εκείθεν οι άνδρες ήλθον εις Σόδομα. ῾Αβραάμ δε έτι ήν εστηκώς εναντίον Κυρίου. και εγγίσας ῾Αβραάμ είπε· μή συναπολέσης δίκαιον μετά ασεβούς και έσται ο δίκαιος ως ο ασεβής; εάν ώσι πεντήκοντα δίκαιοι εν τη πόλει\, απολείς αυτούς; ουκ ανήσεις πάντα τον τόπον ένεκεν των πεντήκοντα δικαίων\, εάν ώσιν εν αυτή; μηδαμώς σύ ποιήσεις ως το ρήμα τούτο\, του αποκτείναι δίκαιον μετά ασεβούς\, και έσται ο δίκαιος ως ο ασεβής. μηδαμώς· ο κρίνων πάσαν την γήν\, ου ποιήσεις κρίσιν; είπε δε Κύριος· εάν ώσιν εν Σοδόμοις πεντήκοντα δίκαιοι εν τη πόλει\, αφήσω όλην την πόλιν και πάντα τον τόπον δι᾿ αυτούς. και αποκριθείς ῾Αβραάμ είπε· νύν ηρξάμην λαλήσαι πρός τον Κύριόν μου\, εγώ δέ ειμι γή και σποδός· εάν δε ελαττονωθώσιν οι πεντήκοντα δίκαιοι εις τεσσαρακονταπέντε\, απολείς ένεκεν των πέντε πάσαν την πόλιν; και είπεν· ου μή απολέσω\, εάν εύρω εκεί τεσσσαρακονταπέντε. και προσέθηκεν έτι λαλήσαι πρός αυτόν\, και είπεν· εάν δε ευρεθώσιν εκεί τεσσαράκοντα; και είπεν· ου μή απολέσω ένεκεν των τεσσαράκοντα. και είπε· μή τι κύριε\, εάν λαλήσω; εάν δε ευρεθώσιν εκεί τριάκοντα; και είπεν· ου μή απολέσω ένεκεν των τριάκοντα. και είπεν· επειδή έχω λαλήσαι πρός τον κύριον· εάν δε ευρεθώσιν εκεί είκοσι; και είπεν· ου μή απολέσω\, εάν εύρω εκεί είκοσι. και είπε· μήτι κύριε\, εάν λαλήσω έτι άπαξ· εάν δε ευρεθώσιν εκεί δέκα; και είπεν· ου μή απολέσω ένεκεν των δέκα. απήλθε δε ο Κύριος\, ως επαύσατο λαλών τω ῾Αβραάμ\, και ῾Αβραάμ απέστρεψεν εις τον τόπον αυτού.\nΑνάγνωσις Παλαιᾱς Διαθήκης: Παροιμίαι 16:17-17:17\nΤρίβοι ζωής εκκλίνουσιν από κακών\, μήκος δε βίου οδοί δικαιοσύνης. ο δεχόμενος παιδείαν εν αγαθοίς έσται\, ο δε φυλάσσων ελέγχους σοφισθήσεται. ός φυλάσσει τάς εαυτού οδούς\, τηρεί την εαυτού ψυχήν\, αγαπών δε ζωήν αυτού φείσεται στόματος αυτού.  πρό συντριβής ηγείται ύβρις\, πρό δε πτώματος κακοφροσύνη.  κρείσσων πραΰθυμος μετά ταπεινώσεως ή ός διαιρείται σκύλα μετά υβριστών.  συνετός εν πράγμασιν ευρετής αγαθών\, πεποιθώς δε επί Θεώ μακαριστός.  τους σοφούς και συνετούς φαύλους καλούσιν\, οι δε γλυκείς εν λόγω πλείονα ακούσονται.  πηγή ζωής έννοια τοις κεκτημένοις\, παιδεία δε αφρόνων κακή.  καρδία σοφού νοήσει τα από του ιδίου στόματος\, επί δε χείλεσι φορέσει επιγνωμοσύνην.  κηρία μέλιτος λόγοι καλοί\, γλύκασμα δε αυτού ίασις ψυχής.  εισίν οδοί δοκούσαι είναι ορθαί ανδρί\, τα μέντοι τελευταία αυτών βλέπει εις πυθμένα ᾅδου.  ανήρ εν πόνοις πονεί εαυτώ και εκβιάζεται την απώλειαν εαυτού\, ο μέντοι σκολιός επί τω εαυτού στόματι φορεί την απώλειαν.  ανήρ άφρων ορύσσει εαυτώ κακά\, επί δε των εαυτού χειλέων θησαυρίζει πύρ.  ανήρ σκολιός διαπέμπεται κακά\, και λαμπτήρα δόλου πυρσεύει κακοίς και διαχωρίζει φίλους.  ανήρ παράνομος αποπειράται φίλων και απάγει αυτούς οδούς ουκ αγαθάς.  στηρίζων δε οφθαλμούς αυτού διαλογίζεται διεστραμμένα\, ορίζει δε τοις χείλεσιν αυτού πάντα τα κακά· ούτος κάμινός εστι κακίας.  στέφανος καυχήσεως γήρας\, εν δε οδοίς δικαιοσύνης ευρίσκεται.  κρείσσων ανήρ μακρόθυμος ισχυρού\, ο δε κρατών οργής κρείσσων καταλαμβανομένου πόλιν.  εις κόλπους επέρχεται πάντα τοις αδίκοις\, παρά δε Κυρίου πάντα τα δίκαια.\nΚρείσσων ψωμός μεθ᾿ ηδονής εν ειρήνη ή οίκος πλήρης πολλών αγαθών και αδίκων θυμάτων μετά μάχης. οικέτης νοήμων κρατήσει δεσποτών αφρόνων\, εν δε αδελφοίς διελείται μέρη.  ώσπερ δοκιμάζεται εν καμίνω άργυρος και χρυσός\, ούτως εκλεκταί καρδίαι παρά Κυρίω.  κακός υπακούει γλώσσης παρανόμων\, δίκαιος δε ου προσέχει χείλεσι ψευδέσιν.  ο καταγελών πτωχού παροξύνει τον ποιήσαντα αυτόν\, ο δε επιχαίρων απολλυμένω ουκ αθωωθήσεται· ο δε επισπλαγχνιζόμενος ελεηθήσεται.  στέφανος γερόντων τέκνα τέκνων\, καύχημα δε τέκνων πατέρες αυτών. 6α του πιστού όλος ο κόσμος των χρημάτων\, του δε απίστου ουδέ οβολός.  ουχ αρμόσει άφρονι χείλη πιστά\, ουδέ δικαίω χείλη ψευδή.  μισθός χαρίτων η παιδεία τοις χρωμένοις\, ού δ᾿ άν επιστρέψη ευοδωθήσεται.  ός κρύπτει αδικήματα\, ζητεί φιλίαν\, ός δε μισεί κρύπτειν\, διΐστησι φίλους και οικείους.  συντρίβει απειλή καρδίαν φρονίμου\, άφρων δε μαστιγωθείς ουκ αισθάνεται.  αντιλογίας εγείρει πάς κακός\, ο δε Κύριος άγγελον ανελεήμονα εκπέμψει αυτώ.  εμπεσείται μέριμνα ανδρί νοήμονι\, οι δε άφρονες διαλογιούνται κακά.  ός αποδίδωσι κακά αντί αγαθών\, ου κινηθήσεται κακά εκ του οίκου αυτού.  εξουσίαν δίδωσι λόγοις αρχή δικαιοσύνης\, προηγείται δε της ενδείας στάσις και μάχη.  ός δίκαιον κρίνει τον άδικον\, άδικον δε τον δίκαιον\, ακάθαρτος και βδελυκτός παρά Θεώ.  ινατί υπήρξε χρήματα άφρονι; κτήσασθαι γαρ σοφίαν ακάρδιος ου δυνήσεται.  ός υψηλόν ποιεί τον εαυτού οίκον\, ζητεί συντριβήν\, ο δε σκολιάζων του μαθείν εμπεσείται εις κακά.  εις πάντα καιρόν φίλος υπαρχέτω σοι\, αδελφοί δε εν ανάγκαις χρήσιμοι έστωσαν· τούτου γαρ χάριν γεννώνται.
