When the house of David was told\, “Syria is in league with Ephraim\,” his heart and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.\nAnd the LORD said to Isaiah\, “Go forth to meet Ahaz\, you and Shearjashub your son\, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the highway to the Fuller’s Field\, and say to him\, ‘Take heed\, be quiet\, do not fear\, and do not let your heart be faint because of these two smoldering stumps of firebrands\, at the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria and the son of Remaliah. Behold\, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son\, and shall call his name Immanuel.\nOld Testament Reading: Genesis 5:32-6:8\n After Noah was five hundred years old\, Noah became the father of Shem\, Ham\, and Japheth.  When men began to multiply on the face of the ground\, and daughters were born to them\, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were fair; and they took to wife such of them as they chose. For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light\, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life\, to preserve you from the evil woman\, from the smooth tongue of the adventuress.  Do not desire her beauty in your heart\, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes; for a harlot may be hired for a loaf of bread\, but an adulteress stalks a man’s very life.  Can a man carry fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned?  Or can one walk upon hot coals and his feet not be scorched?  So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; none who touches her will go unpunished.  Do not men despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his appetite when he is hungry?  And if he is caught\, he will pay sevenfold; he will give all the goods of his house.  He who commits adultery has no sense; he who does it destroys himself. ΚΑΙ εγένετο ηνίκα ήρξαντο οι άνθρωποι πολλοί γίνεσθαι επί της γής\, και θυγατέρες εγεννήθησαν αυτοίς. ιδόντες δε οι υιοί του Θεού τάς θυγατέρας των ανθρώπων ότι καλαί εισιν\, έλαβον εαυτοίς γυναίκας από πασών\, ών εξελέξαντο. και είπε Κύριος ο Θεός· ου μή καταμείνη το πνεύμά μου εν τοις ανθρώποις τούτοις εις τον αιώνα διά το είναι αυτούς σάρκας\, έσονται δε αι ημέραι αυτών εκατόν είκοσιν έτη. οι δε γίγαντες ήσαν επί της γής εν ταις ημέραις εκείναις· και μετ᾿ εκείνο\, ως άν εισεπορεύοντο οι υιοί του Θεού πρός τάς θυγατέρας των ανθρώπων\, και εγεννώσαν εαυτοίς· εκείνοι ήσαν οι γίγαντες οι απ᾿ αιώνος\, οι άνθρωποι οι ονομαστοί.\n᾿Ιδών δε Κύριος ο Θεός\, ότι επληθύνθησαν αι κακίαι των ανθρώπων επί της γής και πάς τις διανοείται εν τη καρδία αυτού επιμελώς επί τα πονηρά πάσας τάς ημέρας\, και ενεθυμήθη ο Θεός ότι εποίησε τον άνθρωπον επί της γής\, και διενοήθη. και είπεν ο Θεός· απαλείψω τον άνθρωπον\, όν εποίησα από προσώπου της γής\, από ανθρώπου έως κτήνους και από ερπετών έως πετεινών του ουρανού\, ότι μετεμελήθην ότι εποίησα αυτούς. Νώε δε εύρε χάριν εναντίον Κυρίου του Θεού.\nΑνάγνωσις Παλαιᾱς Διαθήκης: Παροιμίαι 6:20-7:1\nΥιέ\, φύλασσε νόμους πατρός σου και μή απώση θεσμούς μητρός σου· άφαψαι δε αυτούς επί σή ψυχή διαπαντός και εγκλοίωσαι περί σώ τραχήλω. ηνίκα άν περιπατής\, επάγου αυτήν και μετά σού έστω· ως δ᾿ άν καθεύδης\, φυλασσέτω σε\, ίνα εγειρομένω συλλαλή σοι. ότι λύχνος εντολή νόμου και φώς\, οδός ζωής και έλεγχος και παιδεία του διαφυλάσσειν σέ από γυναικός υπάνδρου και από διαβολής γλώσσης αλλοτρίας. μή σε νικήση κάλλους επιθυμία\, μηδέ αγρευθής σοίς οφθαλμοίς\, μηδέ συναρπασθής από των αυτής βλεφάρων· τιμή γαρ πόρνης όση και ενός άρτου\, γυνή δε ανδρών τιμίας ψυχάς αγρεύει. αποδήσει τις πύρ εν κόλπω\, τα δε ιμάτια ου κατακαύσει; ή περιπατήσει τις επ᾿ ανθράκων πυρός\, τους δε πόδας ου κατακαύσει; ούτως ο εισελθών πρός γυναίκα ύπανδρον\, ουκ αθωωθήσεται\, ουδέ πάς ο απτόμενος αυτής. ου θαυμαστόν εάν αλώ τις κλέπτων\, κλέπτει γαρ ίνα εμπλήση την ψυχήν πεινών· εάν δε αλώ\, αποτίσει επταπλάσια και πάντα τα υπάρχοντα αυτού δούς ρύσεται εαυτόν. ο δε μοιχός δι᾿ ένδειαν φρενών απώλειαν τη ψυχή αυτού περιποιείται\, οδύνας τε και ατιμίας υποφέρει\, το δε όνειδος αυτού ουκ εξαλειφθήσεται εις τον αιώνα. μεστός γαρ ζήλου θυμός ανδρός αυτής· ου φείσεται εν ημέρα κρίσεως\, ουκ ανταλλάξεται ουδενός λύτρου την έχθραν\, ουδέ μή διαλυθή πολλών δώρων.
